When I woke up from a shocking long nap, I realised that I was alone, in the dark in my cot. Sighing to myself, I figured I'd be spending a lot of time by myself for the foreseeable future.
The first thing that I noticed was that I could somehow see everything within 5 meters around me, even when my eyes are closed. I figured that this must be related to [Spatial Perception] which I unlocked with my Space affinity.
I had to quickly shut my eyes, seeing my surroundings from two different perspectives was too much for me to handle.
Seeing everything around me twice over, even briefly, sent a lance of pain into my mind. I cried, shocked by the sudden pain. Mum came rushing in quickly, checking that everything was fine.
"Oliver? %$*$." Mum called out. I was picked up and inspected for anything that could possibly have been wrong with me.
Unfortunately for me, Mum decided that I must just have been hungry which led to another uncomfortable feeding session, before I was put back to bed.
Taking a deep breath, I focused my mind towards understanding what was going on around me, I did have over four times the mental attributes of an Earth human, so they had to be useful for something other than mana generation. Slowly, the pain was pushed back as I willed the sphere to shrink down to only two meters around me, and I cautiously opened my eyes. I let out a relieved sigh, grateful that I wasn't going to have to spend my whole life walking around with a blindfold.
Ding! Congratulations, Spatial Perception has reached level 2!
I quickly clamped back down on my skill again, stopping it from trying to expend to its new limit after the level up.
'I should probably check out what the rest of my affinity skills do so I don't have a repeat of dealing with Spatial Perception,' I thought.
Willing my status up once more, I analysed the new skills I was awarded when I selected my affinity.
This... This could be something truly powerful; I might not know a lot about the world. But having basically unlimited darkness magic? Sign me up. I'd have to play around with this skill a little after I finished inspecting the rest of my status.
I'd certainly made the right choice in choose the perfect strength affinity. If an epic perfect strength affinity was this strong, I'd hate to think what a perfect mythic affinity looked like. After looking at the skills, I moved onto the space skills.
These skills could certainly be useful. I was glad I was able to find a way to move around as my dexterity was too low to let me move. I chuckled silently to myself thinking about the reaction my parents would have to me randomly appearing in front of them one night. Coupled with spatial perception, blink really could make me a menace if I wanted to be. Finally, I decided to look at the time skills I received.
Okay so that was good to know that affinity strength does have an important impact on your skills. The 25% increased cost does kind of suck though.
Now that I'd looked at all of my skills and there were none that I could see that were going to be immediately dangerous to myself. The first skill I wanted to practice with was [Perfect Darkness Manipulation]. Closing my eyes to concentrate, I reached out with my will towards the darkness and the shadows in my room. With hardly any effort at all, they practically jumped towards me, eager to do what I ask of them. As the darkness moved towards me, I mentally condensed the misty darkness turning it into a solid blackness. As it condensed, I wrapped it around myself, covering myself in it. I felt myself calm and relax, as the familiar darkness I'd spent an eternity in finally returned to me.

Perfect Darkness Manipulation has reached level 9
It seems like my perfect Darkness affinity has more benefits than just the skills I've unlocked, it seems like it helps my skills level up faster too.
Just as I was about to release the darkness from me, I heard the door creak open as my parents came into my room.
"What #&@#@ h#% Oliver!" My parents yelled out in panic.
'Oh shit,' I thought. This could be an issue.
Ding! Lorian Common has reached level 2
'Well at least something positive has come out of this.'
Oliver's Status at the End of the Chapter
For skill formatting in the status, would you rather it say as it is or give each skill a tier so Common is tier 1, uncommon tier 2 etc and have each tier have its own section?
