36: The Walking Quake (Bonus)

An intense gush of water followed by a sinister wave of darkness blasted the meager defenses Milli had managed to scramble together as the dark force impacted directly with her.

She felt intense pain across her entire body as she hardened her skin with the earth and forcefully deflected the attack. She had managed to avoid being sliced in half, but the attack had shredded her clothing and inflicted numerous cuts along her arms.

Eldin sucked in his breath as he watched Milli take the powerful hit. He instinctively began preparing to protect the town. The harder the fight. The harder she would fight back. He had seen it many times during his travels. He feared what would occur.

Blood running down her arms and pooling into her gauntlets, Milli couldn’t help but start laughing. The last attack had done quite a number on her. She could feel the blood in her veins quicken as she felt a surge of power start to well up inside her.

This was exciting. This was dangerous. How she had longed to feel the thrill of adrenaline running through her! It was pure ecstasy as the ground around her started to tear itself from the earth and swirl around her.

An extraordinarily oppressive wave of energy blanketed the entire area as the very earth began to shake violently. Rocking the entirety of Woodvale and causing the indomitable ironwood trees to quake.

A pair of brown curved horns and a large scaled tail that resembled that of a lizard sprouted into existence. The scales on the tail were a radiant almost diamond-like crystal with subsequent scales of the same type covering the outer edges of her face and neck.

A few of the spectators on Woddvale’s walls fell off painfully landing on the ground below from the rumbling earth. Elrin couldn’t believe that Milli unleashed it. “You didn’t…” Elrin muttered in absolute disbelief mingled with horror. “That is complete overkill.” He commented to himself again now very worried how he was going to protect the village now.

Letting out a powerful roar that caused the rain to be pushed back, She remembered a story Adrok had once told her about different gods humans once worshipped. She wasn’t big on theology, but one god in particular. One she couldn’t remember the name of held six weapons in six hands. The idea had always fascinated her.

Concentrating the very ground swirling around her, the rocks collided and condensed until four large stone fists half her size floated on either side of her. Covering her hands once again in a renewed set of earthen gauntlets, Milli charged forward with murderous glee.

Managing to keep its balance despite the small quake, the monster could sense the danger fast approaching. Releasing volley after volley of magical attacks hoping to keep the terrifying woman away, it started panicking. The very ground itself rocked and heaved like a ship in a severe storm. Making it practically impossible to aim accurately. It didn’t matter. Milli smacked each attack aside that managed to get in her way as she continued her charge forward. Every step leaving a wake of destruction Parts of the city and walls becoming loose or breaking from the seismic vibrations.

The monster immediately went on the defensive back pedaling and dodging.

When two elemental forces collide. The stronger force wins. While this force is usually attributed to the amount of energy in the attacks, it is also dictated by the willpower of the caster.

This time however, the large stone fists were not connected to Milli. She could have them fly in from behind, the side, above or below. It was only a matter of time before she would catch the enemy.

The satisfying sound of rock smacking scale lead into a quick series of powerful punches as Milli willed the rocky fists to continue pummeling the beast. Growls and yelps of pain were audibly heard by all in the area as Milli continued her relentless rampage.

None of the spectators, including Eldin could see any specific details, but they all heard the powerful smashing. Each attack sending vibrations all the way to the village. The very ground itself started to rise around them, or were they quickly sinking? It was hard to say. But the raucous laughter and murderous glee in Milli’s voice was heard clearly.

Eldin continued to block the ridiculous waves of power assaulting the town, but he couldn’t stop the vibrations from continuing to wreak havoc as buildings started to crumble.

Darkness began to deepen around Milli and she continued to pummel the monster. She noticed the concentrating shadows but didn’t care.

Intense bolts of what could only be described as black lightning ruptured out of the creature uncontrollably as it snarled in anger. An abyssal combination of water and darkness catching the rampaging giantess and sending her away.

Collecting the downpour in the area the monster was able to summon a titanic ball of water in moments. If released, it would easily flood the town and destroy anything that wasn’t a rock sticking out of the ground.

Already feeling the effects of exhaustion from protecting the town, he groaned as he put up a large wall of light. A branch of black lightning smashed against it nearly breaking through. Sweat trickled down his face as he poured more energy into maintaining the barrier. Struggling to keep his hometown safe.

Milli could barely keep herself protected from the vortex. She wasn’t sure what was happening. She didn’t care. Even if her armor and rocks were constantly being ripped and peeled away by the caustic storm of protection.

Constantly replenishing her protective armor, Milli trudged forward anchoring her feet in the ground preventing herself from being flung.

She grimaced in pain as the deadly whirlpool managed to reach her skin instantly lacerating and ripping it away. She literally looked like a walking rock. Every inch of her body being protected; her face completely encased to avoid the damaging liquid.

Milli was grateful that she had developed her seismic sense. Without being able to see inside her rocky cocoon, she slowly approached the monster realizing that it was doing everything it could to prevent her from approaching. It was most likely making a last-ditch suicide attempt.

She couldn’t help but admire how strong the beast was. She knew she didn’t need to unleash her full strength, but there probably wouldn’t be another time in the next decade or so that would even remotely need it. She was tired of always holding back.

All she had to do was reach the beast and kill it. She could feel herself being drained from the constant application of protection as she made her way through the tempest.

Once she was in range, she reached out with her covered arm and grabbed the monster. She nearly bit her tongue from the intense pain she felt as it concentrated the maelstrom around itself. Getting one hand out of the water, she condensed the gauntlet around it until it became a crystalline spike.

Pushing through the torture, she gripped what felt like a crystal and stabbed with all her might. The hardened mineral piercing through the creature’s chest where hopefully its heart resided.

The impromptu spike was immediately blasted away and Milli found herself with one alternative. Wrapping one arm around the creature’s waist, she shoved her hand into the hole she made and gripped whatever she could inside the monster before brutally yanking out whatever organs she happened to grab.

She fell backward from pain, her armor breaking entirely. Thankfully, the destructive storm of darkness ended almost as soon as she had ripped out something from its chest. Aside from the searing pain of ripped and intensely burned flesh on her hands. The rest of her body had briefly been exposed to the dissipating storm causing lighter but similar damage.

She looked up and cursed Aquasias for being in control of such a damn annoying element. The floating mass of water dropped from the sky as Milli created a thick dome of rock over her hoping to weather the initial impact.

She felt the crushing pressure of liquid hit her bunker. Quickly fortifying it even more, she managed to keep it at bay although water seeped in through the cracks from the landing.

Elrin doubled the strength of his barrier by only protecting in front of him. He formed the protective light into a gigantic vertical wedge to lessen the sheer force of the flood, but also redirecting the water around the village itself.

With Woodvale somewhat saved and the water quickly thinning out over the area. Eldin quickly made his way out of the city and towards the last area he had seen Milli. To his relief, he found her exactly where he thought, laying in a pool of water that had collected around her from the storm and flood. Her monstrous transformation already gone leaving her look her normal self.

“I nearly died. I’m out of shape. That shouldn’t have been nearly that difficult.” Milli silently chided herself as Eldin approached. “Where did that thing come from?” She told Elrin before closing her eyes completely, trusting that he would take care of the rest.

Elrin pulled Milli out of the large puddle and left her lying on the ground. The staggering amount of damage the woman suffered from an initial check-up was appalling. Looking in the direction that the attack had come from. Elrin took the time to illuminate the entire area looking for clues. “May the gods protect us all.” He said in terror as he understood how it all happened.

Squinting through the rain, he saw what looked like a large crack in the sky. As it ran down closer to the ground it widened. Leaving a sizable opening anything could walk through. “The continental barrier is cracking. The terrors of the Lost World were able to reach them. Directing his attention back to Milli, he was greeted by a few other brave men as they worked together to heft the large woman back to the safety of Woodvale’s walls. Even if they had broke in numerous sections.

Elrin couldn’t help but let an exasperated chuckle escape his lips when he heard one of the militia complain about how Milli had caused more damage to Woodvale then the monster itself.
