Eldin couldn’t help but swallow hard as he stood on stage in the Gildale Wizardry’s Amphitheatre. In his mind, he had seen himself in a small classroom giving a speech to a handful of wizards or those looking to become wizards. He expected to be front and center, just not in front of hundreds or even 1,000 of his peers.
He had taken the time to prepare a lesson on elemental control and the theories behind it. Only he couldn’t help but feel that it was far too simplistic since he could see many high-ranking and administrative spellcasters sitting in the VIP booth.
Minutes before he was to get on stage and give his presentation, a woman stepped forward and began with introductions and conducting the meeting. When she had finished the usual business of a large event, she introduced Eldin.
“Despite tonight’s speaker falling ill suddenly, we have managed to secure a speaker that may prove more intriguing. Behind me is Eldin Woodman.”
The entire theatre was immediately filled with various voices. Eldin wasn’t sure what people were saying but he could tell that it had indeed caused a stir. As with most formal events or speeches, the conductor continued the introduction. “That’s right! This young man is the son of Lumasias’ Chosen, the Scion of Light, Elrin Woodman.”
The atmosphere grew even louder and Eldin could tell that the woman introducing him was hyping the attendees as much as possible. He hoped that he could deliver to match the expectations.
“What’s more, at the young age of 18, he has become the youngest elementalist in history. It may sound impossible, but it is completely true! Please welcome Eldin Woodman!” She finished with a dramatic flourish before signaling Eldin to come forward.
Eldin hoped the distance the stage provided from the front of the audience was large enough to hide the fact he was sweating. It felt like he was standing under a hot sun after a tough day of physical labor. His skin felt extremely warm as the odd sensation of sweat quickly formed on hisskin sending subtle sensations across his body. His mind went completely blank, he really wished he had brought his notes. The sheer amount of scrutiny being thrown at him along with the introduction of his famous parents created overwhelming mental pressure. Doing his best to look calm and collected, Eldin took a deep breath and started speaking.
“The world is made from 7 elements. Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Light, Dark, and Energy. As you know these fundamental elements have 3 categories they fall into: Base, Universal, and Energy.
The base elements of Fire, Water, Earth and Air make up the physical world we live in. The universal elements of light and dark are omnipresent and exist where the other does not.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
While the base elements make up the physical component of our life, it is commonly associated that light and dark provide the knowledge and truth needed for sentience. With energy supplying the force needed for living entities to actually move. As such, all life in our world is considered to have a varying degree of each of the 7 elements to be alive. The question I would like to ask each one of you in attendance today is; Current theory has us acknowledge that while any movement or power requires energy to occur, why is it that we cannot control energy when we are able to create fire, or launch boulders through the air?”
Eldin wasn’t entirely sure what happened, but a sudden stroke of insight immediately caught his mind. Ever since he learned that controlling energy was possible thanks to Lumina. He had been thinking about how to manipulate it like every other element. The only problem was that with their current accepted theories, it simply was not possible to achieve what Lumina could possibly due. Granted he only had his parent’s word to go off of, but his dad was definitely the wisest person on the continent. Countless thoughts and hypothesis began flooding his thoughts as he completely tossed aside everything he had prepared for the speech and instead began speaking his thoughts aloud.
“If we apply some thought, if fire requires energy to burn. Why is it that we can create a burning fire but not be able to control energy?
If we can toss a boulder or create a miniature whirlwind, the movement itself would require energy. No matter how you look at it, we are able to control energy in the base and universal elements. Why then are we as a people unable to control energy itself? What if, there was more than one type of energy?”
A low murmur from the crowd signaled their disbelief or interest in the new theory. If Eldin had noticed, he didn’t show. With how lost he was in his thoughts, he wasn’t sure if he would hear one of the listeners ask a question.
“Since our bodies are able to store and use energy to fuel our ability to shape the elements around us, doesn’t that mean we are actually using energy? Every time we toss a ball of fire, or lift a pile of dirt, don’t we expend energy to make such things happen? Earlier I stated there was more than one type of energy. I am not suggesting we add a whole slew new elements to our books, but what if energy had a specific frequency?
As we know, when a child is born, the first element they end up using usually suggests what element they have an affinity with. What if this affinity was actually telling us what type energy frequency we naturally use?”
If Eldin wasn’t so caught up in his own epiphany, he would have noticed how quiet the entire event had become. Many of the attendees had read theories on energy manipulation and the possibility of different types. What Eldin was talking about wasn’t exactly brand new, but it was different enough that it actually made logical sense.
Many of the listening spellcasters had numerous questions, but with the speed Eldin was putting out new ideas they were doing everything they could to keep up with their notes. Most of the crowd listening weren’t expecting much from such a young adult. But it quickly became apparent to them that he actually knew what he was talking about. They came to understand why he had an elementalist badge.
