It took only two more days after their announcement that the requests started to fill in. Word of their deeds in Mittellande reaching Furchenstein, and the cities inhabitants quickly trying to get rid of the rats.
On their very first rat extermination, they brought the Newbie. Ready to make the strange figure an actual adventurer, now that they managed to gain some traction and could afford enough tin to begin producing the rings in larger quantities.
The three of them, Frostbite remaining behind at the guild to guard the building, approached the place they were hired to clean up, a rather boring building compared to their first few missions.
"So, what are the primary rules for every contract?"
They asked, the hooded person thinking for a second.
"We do exactly what the client wants. We do not break any rules, and we don't do anything for free. Freelance jobs are our own responsibility, anyone that betrays the guild will have a bounty put on their head."
The rogue recited, the words memorized as if they were holy texts.
Their client just stood in the corner, waiting for them to clean his cellar of rats.
"50 cnar for a total cleanup, that was the quest you placed, wasn't it?"
Goron asked the man, who nodded as the trio asked, not daring to talk more than absolutely necessary, with two people armed to the teeth and the towering frame of Goron reminding them of who he hired for this mission.
"Good. Anything of value down there that might react badly to smoke?"
They asked, waiting for the man to answer. Whe he shook his head, Goron smiled.
"You remember the plan, right?"
He asked the team, and as everyone got into position, he nodded.
First, Goron opened the door behind him and prepared the smoke guidance spell he used during their first rat annihilation.
Norman ran down, the herb ring they used for smoke production put in a ceramic bowl at one end of the dark room.
The Hooded person closed the door behind him, waiting with drawn daggers for the next step of the plan.
It was when a desperate knock came from inside that the door was opened again, goron immediately funneling the smoke out of the door, ensuring that it wouldn't settle inside and hindered the sight of anyone on the outside guessing what they were currently doing.
Like last time, the rats ran out at once, the suffocating smoke driving them forward, coughing and gasping for air as they were sliced apart as soon as they reached the top.
After that they went down, searching for more rats and finding a few of them suffocated.
"It seems we are done here, let's get that money and prepare for the next mission."
They gathered the cnar and left for their home.
This procedure repeated over the following days, with the group cleaning up to three houses a day, the rat plague was soon banished from most houses, though some of those too proud to pay for their services spread the rodents back to their neighbours on accident.
With the Guards busy, Goron smiled. All profit went to fund the production of Iron rings for the three of them, as well as the complete repairs on the headquaters.
It was one such morning that they were awoken to people asking to join the guild, and others ready to beg for help.
The business was booming, and when the guards finally noticed the undead army approaching from the north, Goron took one look at his status screen and ventured the biggest of the wyrmholes.
"Goodbye, Norman. And remember to say Hallo to those you trust."
"Everything in agility, let's see what these caverns can challenge me with"
"They no longer need me, the city is somewhat safe, and there are enough new adventurers to make sure the guild will function under Norman. I wonder how the hooded one managed to conceal their Identity this good. I'm sure this is all something he will tell me in great detail once I retunr though."
He muttered, sighing as he clutched the small satchel he wore, staring into the abyss, knowing it would stare back.
The first few hours of his descend were boring, given the many guards and miners farming the area for resources.
Only when he passed the last torch did he feel free again, hos magic expanding outward as he felt it resonate with the stone around him.
"I am Thimon fucking Major, and I'll make sure this damned place is clean of you. I know here is someone that could challenge me, but I will win either way."
and with those words, he sprinted deeper into the darkness. His respect for the surroundings nonexistent. He had come here hoping to die in battle, and the mysterious absence of all life could not stop him.
ddHe was consumed by madness, the rage that whirred within bubbling up as he remembered who he hated the most.
"I'll slaughter them when I see them, make sure none remain to stand in my way!"
And his challenge was answered with a deep roar.
