After a strange enemy attack in unclaimed territory, the FNEF Pathfinder is forced to retreat and jettisons a damaged cargo pod, deeming it too risky to attempt recovery. Captain Richard "Dick" Fletcher, a valiant officer of the Federation''''s Marine Infantry Corps, happened to be in said cargo pod when it was jettisoned, and he is forced to tough it out in a strange new world full of unknown threats, hoping that they come back for him later.
