Chapter 19

Mal pretends to be something he’s not. He shows what people want to see, and hides what people don’t want to see. That way, all the public sees is the good, and none of the bad.

He gauges how people are by doing research on them before he interactions with them. Like a predator stalking its prey, it looks for the right time to swoop in and capture the prey. He acts like a soulmate since he pretends to be what someone has been looking for. He anticipates what people need and want since he has already done his research on them: history, strength, weakness, fears, desires.

He wants all of the credit but none of the blame. He thinks it’s always someone else’s fault. He knows who is to blame all along, but doesn’t do anything to stop it. Why would he? It’s a trap that he set up and it’s working. Something goes wrong since he set it up to happen that way. He pretends to be innocent when he’s not.
