CHAPTER - 157 [Past Stories Part. 2]

  CHAPTER - 157

Narrator: The city was wrapped in a ghostly silence, interrupted only by the sound of the wind stirring the empty streets.

The moon, pale and cold, illuminated the old abandoned houses and the narrow alleys.

Every corner seemed like a refuge for shadows, and the ground of the streets, covered in dust and debris, looked like the stage for something sinister.

Dav stood in the middle of it all, his face determined, but also a little bored by how much this had become routine by now.

  "I knew this would happen,"

  Flashback

Narrator: He thought, his hands tightly gripping the handle of his sword as he walked along the deserted streets.

"This place, this man... all of this already feels familiar."

He was looking for the assassin, the shadow hiding among the rooftops, awakened from his hiding only by the night.

When their eyes met, he disappeared.

  Present

"I thought at that moment he had vanished after his first failure.

  And I was disappointed."

Then, a little later, i saw him appear farther away, watching him, as if preparing some plan to kill me.

i followed him calmly into the most horrid places, like abandoned houses and deserted hospitals.

  Flashback

Every corner seemed a trap, every shadow hid a threat.

His opponent moved like a shadow, appearing and disappearing, leaving behind only the sound of footsteps and the noise of knives flying through the air.

Every attack Dav attempted was blocked or evaded, as if the assassin was an integral part of the night itself.

The traps kept springing from nowhere, as if the man had total control over the environment.

  Present

"I just know it was so annoying having to chase him like a cat chasing a little mouse,"

  he said, sighing in bed,

  Flashback

Narrator: he thought, his eyes narrowing as he tried to find a way to react.

The people inside their homes were watching from their windows, terrified, knowing that night would be a fight for survival.

Dav's heart, at that moment, beat not only for the battle at hand, but also for the protection of those innocent people.

  "I have to stop him,"

  he murmured to himself.

  And so he did.

With an explosion of fire, Dav flooded the city with blazing flames, burning everything he could: house walls, streets, and even the very air seemed to ignite.

The assassin could no longer hide; his refuge had been destroyed.

The light of the fire revealed his position, and for the first time, the man was forced to show his true form.

The fight, as intense as it was, no longer seemed balanced.

  Dav moved like a whirlwind.

The assassin, with his fighting style resembling martial arts, tried once again to make a move, but every blow was repelled by Dav's brutal strength.

His exhaustion was starting to show, but his determination never wavered.

Every step, every movement brought him closer to the end of that fight.

"It's pointless and I'm really getting irritated seeing him disappear every two seconds,"

  thought Dav, tired but unshakable.

  "I'm getting bored."

With a smile that was anything but friendly, Dav grabbed the assassin by the arm.

The grip was tight, firm. In an instant, he lifted the body and hurled it so high that it seemed like the man might touch the very moon.

  "Goodbye,"

he murmured, letting the assassin crash down to the ground with a dry, sickening thud, like a bug squashed under a foot.

In the silence that followed, Dav slumped onto a rock, his breathing deep and steady.

"You were a pain in the ass,"

he said to himself, but then an ironic smile crossed his face.

  "I'm hungry now."

  Present

Narrator: Selene looked at him, her eyebrows raised and a disappointed look on her face as she laid down next to him.

"What a disappointment! You cheated! You threw him down from the sky just to make it easier for you to win...

It wasn't an honorable and fair battle,"

Selene said, in a tone that mixed disappointment with amusement.

"I thought it was going to be epic."

Dav looked at her, his smile widening.

  "This is the truth, Sele.

Evil doesn't deserve an honorable fight, nor an honorable death."

Selene stared at him for a moment, then shook her head, smiling with an expression of affectionate disdain.

  "I know,"

  she said, hugging him.

"But that's why I adore you."
