18 - Speed Demon

  Chapter 18: Speed Demon

"Attention, everyone! Starlight Amusement Park is now closing for the day."

"All services will be suspended. Please exit the park in an orderly fashion!"

Jake, who had been watching the clock all day, rushed to the microphone at precisely 6 PM to announce the park's closing to all the visitors.

After watching the last visitor leave, Jake hurried back to his office, eager to check the system interface.

  ----

  Starlight Amusement Park

  Status: Gaining Recognition

  Overall Rating: Average

  Today's Visitors: 51

  Employees: None

  System Attraction: Death Shack

  Fame Points: 11528

  ----

After a period of diligent management, Starlight Amusement Park was showing signs of improvement. Not only did it attract a steady stream of visitors each day, but its reputation was also slowly being restored.

"Mom, Dad, watch over me from above. I will make sure your legacy will be in good hands!"

Jake clenched his fist, silently encouraging himself.

Ten minutes later, Jake reluctantly closed the Starlight Amusement Park status window and opened the system store interface.

"System, show me all the attractions I can currently afford!"

  The store interface shifted.

The previously overwhelming array of options was reduced to a manageable number, with only about ten attractions remaining.

Jake examined them one by one.

These attractions were nothing special. Ignoring the technological aspect, the types themselves were common in many amusement parks.

They were mostly basic attractions like carousels, bumper cars, and kiddie drop towers.

After reviewing all the attractions, Jake focused his attention on one called the Hyper Velocity Coaster!

  ----

  [Hyper Velocity Coaster]

  Rating: Two-Star

Description: A high-speed coaster capable of reaching speeds of 310 mph. Experience extreme velocity without the need for loops. Guaranteed to thrill!

  Cost: 10000 Fame Points

  ----

If park visitors were to vote for their favorite attractions, roller coasters would undoubtedly be top contenders.

Jake remembered that during Starlight Amusement Park's peak, it had a small roller coaster.

Every time the park was open, long lines formed in front of the coaster, and it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that people at the back of the line might have to wait one or two hours for their turn.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

Compared to the roller coaster, the lines for Starlight Amusement Park's other attractions paled in comparison.

This clearly demonstrated that while an amusement park could do without other attractions, it absolutely could not be without a roller coaster!

More importantly, the system's Hyper Velocity Coaster could reach speeds of up to 310 mph, nearly half the speed of sound. That was five times faster than a typical roller coaster, and twice as fast as the world's current fastest coaster!

The Hyper Velocity Coaster was bound to attract many coaster enthusiasts!

Thinking of this, Jake's lips curled into a slight smile.

"System, redeem the Hyper Velocity Coaster!"

"Redemption successful. Please select the placement method. Option 1: Generate the attraction directly within the park. Option 2: The system will generate workers who will complete the construction of the Hyper Velocity Coaster within three days."

Jake pondered briefly before choosing the second option.

Starlight Amusement Park was no longer what it used to be. Now, it attracted a significant number of visitors every day!

If a large attraction like a roller coaster suddenly appeared overnight, it would be difficult to explain.

Choosing the second placement method would only waste three days at most.

And Jake could use that time to promote the Hyper Velocity Coaster.

After doing all of this, Jake yawned, feeling a wave of fatigue wash over him. His eyelids felt as heavy as iron.

He had been in and out of the Death Shack many times that day, carrying out dozens of people.

Even with the help of an electric cart, it was still physically exhausting.

Jake quickly washed up and soon drifted off into a peaceful slumber.

  ...

  The next day.

Jake was awakened by a cacophony of sounds!

"What's going on?" Jake got out of bed, bewildered. He opened the door and saw what was happening.

A construction crew of several hundred people had appeared in Starlight Amusement Park. They were wearing uniform work clothes and, under the direction of their foreman, were constructing the Hyper Velocity Coaster in an organized manner.

A pile of materials needed for the Hyper Velocity Coaster had also appeared on the empty space.

"Looks like I won't be getting any good sleep for the next few days." Jake regretted choosing the second construction method.

Since Jake couldn't go back to sleep, he decided to get up and start working.

Although the park wouldn't open for another two hours, and he didn't have to worry about that just yet, there were still plenty of things that Jake needed to take care of.

First and foremost, he needed to hire employees!

Currently, at least several dozen visitors came to Starlight Amusement Park every day to experience the Death Shack.

Jake had to sell tickets and be responsible for dragging people out of the attraction.

He could grit his teeth and bear it for a short time, but if it went on for too long, Jake was afraid he would overwork himself to death and end up eating Thanksgiving dinner with his parents in heaven!

Jake created a simple job posting and put it online. Then, he opened the Starlight Amusement Park's online review page and teased the upcoming launch of the Hyper Velocity Coaster.

During this time, Jake also took a look at Starlight Amusement Park's reputation on the online review platform.

The ratings for Starlight Amusement Park showed a trend that leaned either positive or negative.

The breaking point was the day the Death Shack officially opened to the public.

The comments before that day were mostly negative. The rare positive review was clearly a default setting.

However, the new comments that had appeared in recent days were overwhelmingly positive!

"Thumbs up for Starlight Amusement Park! Although there is only one Death Shack to play with right now, it's more than enough. I have never been to such a creepy haunted house anywhere else!"

"Went to Starlight Amusement Park specifically for the Death Shack. I can only say that it's even better than I imagined. If you like haunted houses, you must go and play it once, otherwise you will definitely regret it!"

"Death Shack, good review! Death Shack, good review! Death Shack, good review! Important things said three times!"

Three days passed in a flash.

During these three days, the number of visitors to Starlight Amusement Park continued to increase. On the third day, it even broke one hundred, reaching its peak in recent years!

The new employees had also been hired.

Most importantly, the construction of the Hyper Velocity Coaster, which Jake had been eagerly awaiting, was nearing completion!
