Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [60]

Blue knew August had worked as a Pokémon Ranger before, so she wasn’t surprised that he had other Pokémon.

  But…

  "Eevee? Against Lt. Surge?"

She gnced at the sleepy furball resting on August’s shoulder, her expression full of doubt.

Sure, she admitted that Eevee was adorable—all fluffy and warm, practically begging to be hugged.

  But cute didn’t equal strong.

Was August seriously pnning to take on Lt. Surge with an Eevee?

What was he going to do—cuteness overload him into submission?

Seeing Blue’s skepticism, August smirked and patted Eevee’s head. "Don’t underestimate her. In terms of strength, she’s the second-strongest Pokémon on my team."

  "Bui~"

Hearing her trainer praise her, Eevee wiggled bashfully, looking almost embarrassed.

  …Okay, fine.

Even August had to admit that convincing someone this little thing had Elite Four-level potential was a hard sell.

  Just then, his communicator vibrated.

Checking the message, August grinned and turned to Blue.

"Time to move. This’ll be the perfect chance for you to see Eevee’s strength firsthand!"

  ---

  Lt. Surge was getting impatient.

He had been sitting in the gym all day, waiting.

But the so-called "Masked Corp" still hadn’t shown up.

And despite sending out his men to search, they hadn’t found anything—not a single trace.

"Don’t tell me those rats already skipped town…?"

Given his control over Vermilion City, the fact that they hadn’t found anything was frustrating.

Lt. Surge was beginning to wonder if he had overpyed his hand—

Maybe sending out too many men had spooked them into fleeing.

The more he thought about it, the more likely it seemed.

That would expin why they haven’t made a move yet.

"Tch. Just a bunch of cowards who only know how to leave stupid ‘warning letters’…"

  He exhaled, feeling more rexed.

If they had already run off, then all he needed to do was clean up any inconvenient evidence—

And if someone did report him to the League?

  Please.

Lt. Surge had spent years building his influence in Vermilion City.

Did they really think a single accusation would shake him?

"Masked Corp? Hah. Just a bunch of circus clowns."

Satisfied with his own reasoning, Lt. Surge stood up, ready to start tying up loose ends.

But before he could give the order—

One of his subordinates came running in, panicked.

"Boss! We just got a distress signal from one of our patrols!"

  Lt. Surge’s smile vanished.

  "…What?"

"We lost contact after the signal. No response to follow-ups."

"In other words, they got ambushed."

  The subordinate gulped. "Y-Yes, sir!"

  "They didn’t run?"

  Lt. Surge’s expression darkened.

These guys actually had the guts to attack my men in my own city?

  His fingers curled into fists.

"Mobilize everyone. I want them found."

  ---

  "Bui~!"

Eevee effortlessly dodged Arbok’s fangs as the snake Pokémon lunged at her.

The moment she nded, her back paws barely brushed the ground before she kicked up a cloud of sand—

  Right into Arbok’s face.

Arbok hissed, blinking furiously as it filed in confusion.

A Weezing nearby rushed in to cover, spewing a glob of toxic sludge toward Eevee.

But before the attack could nd—

  "Bui—!"

Eevee wrinkled her little nose and leapt aside, avoiding the disgusting sludge.

  Then, she gred.

Without giving Weezing a chance to react, Eevee shot forward in a blur—

A brown streak moving at unnatural speed.

  BAM!

  A single [Double-Edge] smmed into Weezing’s body.

  "Wee—!"

  The impact was brutal.

Weezing was sent flying, crashing into a Beedrill that had been unfortunate enough to be in the way.

Both Pokémon were smashed into a nearby alley wall, leaving behind deep cracks.

Neither Weezing nor Beedrill moved after that.

Arbok, who had just managed to clear its eyes, turned to see its two allies knocked out—

  It froze.

For the first time, fear flickered in its gaze.

It had [Intimidate], but somehow, it felt like Eevee was the one intimidating it.

  Step by step, Eevee advanced.

Arbok instinctively curled up, slowly backing away—

  "Arbok—!"

  But it was too te.

A flurry of [Swift] stars rained down on it.

And with that, Arbok colpsed, unconscious.

  "Bui~!"

With all threats neutralized, Eevee pranced happily back to August’s side.

Tilting her head up, she stared at him with bright eyes.

  Praise me!

August chuckled, lifting her onto his shoulder and scratching behind her ears before handing her a Pokéblock.

  Then, he turned to Blue—

Who was just standing there, looking absolutely stunned.

With a knowing smirk, August raised an eyebrow.

"So? Still doubting my Eevee’s strength?"

  Blue didn’t respond immediately.

Her mind was still repying the one-sided massacre she had just witnessed.

  That wasn’t even a battle.

  It was a complete beatdown.

Eevee had toyed with her opponents like they were nothing.

No wonder August had been so confident.

After a long pause, Blue finally nodded.

"…Yeah. Okay. I believe you now."

  August was pleased.

With that out of the way, he turned his attention to the restrained Rocket Grunts at their feet.

Giving one of them a light nudge with his boot, he asked, "So? Lt. Surge is still in the gym, right?"

The Rocket Grunt scowled. "I don’t know what you’re talking about! We’re just Vermilion Gym trainees! Attacking us will get you arrested by the League!"

He sounded so confident—like he genuinely believed his own words.

  August’s grin widened.

  "Arrested? You mean me?"

Reaching into his coat, he casually flipped open his International Police badge.

The Rocket Grunt’s face drained of color.

  "…."

"Got anything else you’d like to say?" August asked, twirling the badge in his fingers.

The grunt clenched his teeth, clearly unwilling to talk.

August sighed. "Alright. Blue, if you would?"

  Blue’s Clefable stepped forward.

With a single [Thunder Wave] followed by a well-pced [Pound], the grunts were swiftly knocked unconscious.

Dusting off his hands, August shook his head.

Rocket Grunts these days keep bringing up the League like it’s on their side.

Is there even any hope left for Kanto?
