Series follows a boy named bates (pronounced batez) who grew up as a servant being harshly abused. As such he has no empathy for others. One day as he does a task he was giving a black moon rises knocking everyone out. Upon awakening people are eating and killing each other. Realizing this new reality bates does what he has to in order to survive.
