Chapter 5: Lin Xian vs Bai Jingyi – Genius vs Overconfident Princess!
The arena fell into an awkward silence.
A few weeds rustled in the wind.
Elder Hao quietly stuffed melon seeds into his mouth, eyes sparkling with excitement. This was better than any sect meeting he’d ever attended.
Lin Xian casually twirled the golden Spirit Beast Egg in his hand like a basketball.
Bai Jingyi stepped onto the dirt field, her blue robe fluttering dramatically behind her.
Somebody in the crowd whispered:
“She looks so powerful…”
“I heard she beat a mid-level elder st month!”
“Poor Lin Xian… Maybe he’ll survive if he fakes fainting?”
Lin Xian’s Thoughts:
Huh. She’s pretty good looking. Would be cuter if she didn’t look like she’s about to mug me.
Also, is she wearing perfume? Smells like overpriced peaches.
Bai Jingyi drew her twin swords with a loud shhhhk! sound.
“Lin Xian! I, Bai Jingyi of Azure Flower Sect, challenge you formally! Do you dare accept?”
Lin Xian yawned loudly, stretched his arms, and said:
“I accept… under three conditions.”
Bai Jingyi blinked, thrown off. “Conditions?”
Lin Xian raised three fingers:
“If I win, you owe me dumplings. Two ptes.”“If I win, you must address me as ‘Senior Brother Supreme’ for three days.”“If I win, you have to apologize to my tiger cub for calling it a cat.”
The Void Tiger Cub yawned and showed a tiny paw like it approved.
The Cloudpetal Sect disciples exploded into ughter.
“Senior Brother Supreme!”
“HAHAHAHAHA!”
“This kid is fearless!”
Bai Jingyi’s face turned as red as a tomato.
“F-Fine! But when I win, you’ll bow and call me ‘Big Sister Bai’ for a week!”
Lin Xian nodded solemnly.
“Deal.”
They shook hands.
Lin Xian made sure to wipe his hand on his sleeve afterward, pretending to avoid catching some kind of ‘overconfidence disease.’
The Duel Begins!
Elder Hao stood up unsteadily, waved his arm.
“Begin… or whatever. Try not to break the goats.”
BOOM!
Bai Jingyi unched herself forward like a meteor.
Twin swords danced, weaving a blinding web of shimmering bde light.
Each ssh was sharp enough to slice boulders.
Spiritual energy swirled around her like a mini-storm.
Lin Xian stayed completely still.
At the very st second, he leaned slightly left.
A sword ssh grazed past his hair.
Everyone gasped.
Bai Jingyi gritted her teeth.
She wasn’t holding back anymore.
She flipped backward, formed a hand seal, and unleashed her secret technique:
“Azure Flower Bloom!”
Suddenly, dozens of illusory blue lotus petals exploded outward, spinning like sharp bdes.
They shot toward Lin Xian from every direction.
Lin Xian’s Move
Lin Xian sighed.
He set the golden egg gently on the ground.
He patted the Void Tiger Cub still sleeping on his head.
“Time to work, little buddy.”
The Void Tiger Cub cracked open one zy eye.
It yawned…
…and unleashed a tiny roar.
ROAARRR~ (It sounded like a cute squeaky toy.)
But the moment it roared—
BOOM!
An invisible shockwave exploded outward.
All the spinning lotus petals shattered into blue dust.
Bai Jingyi stumbled mid-air, coughing.
“Wh-what was that?!”
Lin Xian casually stepped forward.
With one finger glowing faintly with spiritual energy, he flicked her on the forehead.
Tock!
Bai Jingyi’s eyes crossed.
She wobbled.
And toppled backward like a cut tree.
THUD.
Dust flew up.
The entire Cloudpetal Sect arena erupted.
“HE BEAT HER WITH A FLICK!”
“HIS PET IS STRONGER THAN OUR WHOLE SECT!”
“I want a cute tiger too!”
Elder Hao started ughing so hard he fell off his chair, rolling on the ground like a happy tortoise.
After the Duel
Lin Xian crouched beside Bai Jingyi, who was lying on the ground with a stunned look.
He waved a dumpling in front of her nose.
“You owe me dumplings. Two ptes, freshly steamed. Preferably pork and chive.”
Bai Jingyi groaned weakly.
“And don’t forget,” Lin Xian added, a wide grin on his face, “it’s Senior Brother Supreme for three whole days.”
The Azure Flower Sect disciples stood frozen, faces pale.
Their proud young miss was defeated… by a random dirt sect disciple… with a cat flick and a baby tiger.
One of the Azure disciples leaned toward another and whispered:
“Should we just pretend this sect doesn’t exist and fly away quietly?”
The other nodded furiously.
They were already dragging their unconscious young miss back toward their lotus boat.
“…I’ll get you back… Senior Brother Supreme…”
Lin Xian grinned and gave a two-finger salute.
“I’ll be waiting, Little Miss Overpriced Peaches.”
The lotus boat rose awkwardly into the air, bobbing a few times because someone forgot to untie it properly.
Lin Xian picked up his egg, scooped up his Void Tiger Cub, and looked around at the stunned Cloudpetal Sect.
“Alright! Now where’s my dumpling buffet?”
The entire sect roared with ughter.
