Skill points - 0
"I do have a slight problem." I began.
We had agreed that the meeting had gone quicker than expected with the Paragon making the final decision on both of our futures so we had decided to browse the markets. This also gave Willow additional time to make lunch as I didn't want to rush her.
"I don't know how my css or job get skill points." I admitted with a pinch of disappointment. "I got some points when you joined my ah well when you became my padin but that was it."
Arath twisted her head to look at me.
"That could be a problem my love. It might have something to do with me though. It is only a stray thought of mine but you might only gain skill points for my accomplishments. Or well with anyone that worshipped you."
That could be the case. Rayna had said she gets skill points form Araths being with me but it still doesn't help right now. I let out a groan.
Why can I not get a simple answer? It would make my life so much easier. Arath gave my leg a pat in an effort to consol me. It helped slightly.
"So what are we going to see in the markets?" I asked trying to change the subject.
"Fabric mainly. I still need to make you a full set of clothes and some spares. It can't be comfortable in just those pants."
"I don't know. It was made with love so it's perfect." I replied.
My wife blushed now facing forward to avoid me. "Thank you husband."
The market was on the opposite side of the city to where we were and very close to one of the entrances. It was also much the same as the world I got summoned to. Venders yelled out there wears to those passing by and you either ignore them or get pulled into their speech about why their products will change your life.
I was surprised to learn most of the vendors themselves were not centaurs but other races who could buy a permit to set up shop for a day. This ment that the wears being sold each day were different as the travellers came and went. It also ment there was a decent amount of patrolling guards stopping brawls and looking for contraband.
This was very interesting at least to me but Arath just walked through with single minded precision until she found what I could only describe as a kobold with half formed wings selling different fabrics.
Bartering was of course the norm and while I would love to say I'm good at it, I'm not. Arath wasn't too much better but she did get the items she needed for only 2/3 of the asking price. I however had to vacate my position on her back so she could carry them but I needed to stretch my legs.
There was a sign beside the kobold in lettering I didn't understand however.
"Hey Arath what does this all mean." I said pointing to the sign.
"It's his skill level in certain abilities. Most vendors will advertise any skills they have that might increase the quality of durability of their wears. They will also list their levels as well." She replied moving away from the store once everything was packed onto her back. I followed just to her side taking the opportunity to hold her hand.
"Couldn't you just lie and say they are better?" I asked noting a lot of the other stores had simir signs. "And why ain't they in common, I can't read them."
"The answer is quite simple. They don't know how to write in common and use their own nguage in the hopes we can read it. As for the lying, most of the guards have an appraisal skill for finding assassin's and such. It allows them to look through the skills someone has when given permission. They will then verify with what you're sign says. If you refuse to have them use that skill on you or what they find is different to what you advertised then you must remove your sign."
That actually sounds like a good system. With the amount of people coming and going in this section of the city, spot checks would be the most effective without stopping the money flow.
"I would like to sell some of my excess projects tomorrow at this market if you would like to see how it's all done?" Arath offered seeming to see my curiosity.
"That would be wonderful." We have been doing a lot of things recently that have spent money so making so me in return would be a good idea. Although now that I think about it Willow is a smith right?
Could we somehow put a forge beside our house. It would be a great way of earning money just from the repairing of equipment without spending a lot, plus Arath would need some proper armour at some point. Better to make it ourselves so we could make adjustments as we gain strength.
"What's on your mind husband?" Arath asked braking my train of thought.
"Willow." I replied. "I was wondering how hard it would be to get a forge for her."
Arath seemed to consider it for a while before responding. "Not hard, just expensive. A full forge close to our house would be double what I paid for my house at least."
Thought so. Next pn then. We could do something like an archery range.
"Still in thought husband?" My wife asked bringing us around to a different part of the market.
"I was thinking about an archery range instead if I can't gain skill points I want to make sure our family can. No point in holding us all back." I said.
"That would be equally as tough my love. As if it became known she was learning archery she would be forced to join a combat devision. I'm exempt because I'm your head mare she is not."
Couldn't be easy could it. So forging would be her best bet. Maybe they do apprentice type stuff we could get her to join. My musings were interrupted by a vendor selling jewellery or the ring section specifically. I need to somehow get my own money so I can give one to Arath.
As we walked past the jeweler another store caught my eye. This one manned by the most exotic looking woman I'd ever seen.
Pink hair pulled straight down and would have touched the ground if it didn't end in smoke. Dark blue eyes with light pink lips that I swear looked natural. She was very pretty, definitely a girl you had to give a second look at. But just like her hair, her body cut off at the waist becoming this smoky almost transparent shape. She wore only a small strap to contain her breasts pulling it tightly against her chest and some golden arm bracers.
Three elven men sat behind her not paying attention to the storefront, pying some sort of board game and of course I couldn't read the sign.
"What does that sign say?" I asked Arath pointing to the store. The woman noticed me and gave the most fake customer service smile I have ever seen.
"Three gold for a wish. It's not a good idea my husband djinns are tricky creatures and will twist the wish into something you don't want."
A djinn. Can't say I've ever seen one. Yet something about it didn't sit quite right with me. Maybe I'd watched Addin a few too many times or I'd worked at a job I'd rather not be at.
"Do you think you can spare three gold my love."
Arath gave me a look that said this was a mistake but reluctantly handed me the gold coins. Hopefully I wasn't wrong about this.
I approached the store front the djinn woman's gaze never leaving me. One of the men came forward when he noticed my approach and pointed to the sign Arath had just transted. I offered the money and he took it without a second look going back to his game.
The djinn still looking at me offered her hand as it started to glow. I took it and a sensation like I could be anything filled my body. A king with endless wealth, I could have Rayna in my harem right now. I simply just need to wish it.
This was dangerous I thought. All my wants were brought to the forefront of my mind. I bit my lip to try and break the effect as vengeance against those that had wronged me came to mind. It worked just enough.
"I wish for you to be free." I grumbled trying to be quite enough that the elves didn't hear me.
The djinn pulled back like I'd burnt her. The effect of my desires going with her. That was a scary power. Stronger than when I'd had to fight a succubus.
I shook trying to clear my head fully then backed up to join Arath. The pink haired djinn smiled this time with genuine happiness. The arm bracers gone.
"What did you wish for my love?" Arath whispered pulling me as fast as she could in the other direction to the djinn.
"Her freedom." I replied. Hoping my gamble was the correct one.
