9- Charlene; Growing Up

Then the ex-Pnet Master told Dian about it all.

“Many Pnet Masters do not favor us who birthed the undead race due to our nature. To put it simply, we are of no use to other Pnet Masters. We use Undead Element which is harmful to the other living race. Who can make use of us if that is the case?”

“What you mean to say is that the undead race is only seen as a nuisance to the others. Is that correct?” Dian interjected and asked.

He replied, “Not only that but we have low upper limit…”

“Wait! What does that mean?” Dian asked once again. He had heard about it but he never found the relevance of that information.

“It means that the growth of the undead race stopped at a low rank. It is actually at the fourth rank. Compared to the average which is at fifth rank, the undead race is actually quite low on potential.”

‘That is strange.’ Dian thought. As far as he knew, any race could potentially be at the top. It was just they did not discover the way yet. So he asked again.

“Is it because of the known path the Universe Council has announced?”

“Yes. It is because of that reason which caused a certain trend between the Pnet Masters. The undead race becomes unpopur, isoted even. I only know this due to the fact that some seniors Pnet Master with the undead race told me about this.”

The Universe Council had explored the development of many races. It also included the growth of the undead race. According to their observation, the undead race had a good advantage in numbers but as for potential, it was actually quite low.

Their known path was also difficult to achieve and they could not be of use to the other race so that was the reason why many Pnet Masters disliked the undead race and by extension the Pnet Master who birthed them.

The fact that the undead race was of no use to the other Pnet Master was the reason why they became unpopur. The Pnet Master wanted to get something from winning a Star Battle but winning against the undead race was costly and the Pnet Master lost more than it gained.

“I see. It is hard on you but I believe that everything has a purpose for existing. If not even the Universe Council can find it, I can assure you that my human race will. After all, their drive to learn will guide them to develop the Undead Element.” Dian had to say this because he had seen the sign from his observation of the Thebes Kingdom that was on the downward trend.

They were the kingdom that studied the Undead Element the most so they could be said to be the most expert regarding that part of knowledge.

“How can that be? Who would learn something that has a low upper limit?”

“It is to be determined whether the Undead Element development tree’s upper limit is low. But my human race will learn something from it and develop it further. That is what I am sure of.” Dian said this with conviction.

The ex-Pnet Master was looking intently at Dian. This Pnet Master was surprisingly inspiring him. He also wanted to see that the Undead Element could reach a higher pce. He felt that the Pnet Master in front of him could lead his race further in the Universe Council by winning the Star Battle continuously.

So he decided. He decided that the Pnet Master who had become his master was worthy of his respect. It was because he did not look down on the path of the Undead Element.

“I am Ghylea. From now on, I will dedicate myself to your cause. Consider this as an apology for my conduct before.”

Dian who saw this then realized why this happened. He did not expect his own consideration for the less useful would be the breaking point between him and Ghylea.

“It is fine. As long as you understand…”

Year Fifty-One of the Father God.

That was the time when Charlene celebrated her eleventh birthday. She was given a cake and a candle to blow a small fire on it.

She blew on the fire until it was extinguished. Then her parents gave her the presents that came from them, the neighbors as well as some of their retives.

Charlene as usual was a bit excited since she did not know what kind of present she would receive. On the other hand, her guards who was standing near was also watching this with caution.

“Let me see what kind of present I can get.” Charlene went to one of the small boxes that was wrapped in a smooth paper covering.

She tore open it to find that it was a set of tools that was mainly used to assist in the drawing of the geometric form. She felt that the present was good since she was interested in that subject.

Of course, what she wanted the most was actually the present her parents gave her. Since that was what she wanted the most, Charlene moved to the pce where her parents pced their presents.

It was actually a new model of the thing called a doll. It was shaped in the form of a cute bear with a fluffy torso and a soft and flexible round ear.

“What is this!?” even for Charlene, this was the first time she was seeing such a thing.

“This is a doll. What is it that they said again…it is used just like a special friend. Is that right?” her father spoke.

“Charlene, with this doll, you can py with it or let it accompany you. This is the first time we received something like this.” Her mother said that.

Charlene tilted her head as she wondered how she could enjoy her time with this present that her parents gave her. Furthermore, she could treat it as a special friend and it could accompany her. Was that true?

Charlene touched its soft ear with her hands and she could feel that clearly. She went down and touched the torso of the bear doll and she felt its fluffiness. She then hugged the doll and smelled its unique smell, a mixture of perfume and the material that made up the doll.

‘I want to know about this doll!’ Charlene thought as she started to ask her parents about the doll. This was what her parents said.

“This is the new product we got from the famous craftsman. It is said that the number of this doll is limited and we are fortunate enough to be given one.”

From there, Charlene also sought to dig for more information. Her doll was truly special just like her parents had said. She always carried the doll with her since its size was quite small for her.

The doll became part of Charlene’s life.

Year Fifty-Two of the Father God.

The Heavensend Kingdom had explored the entire water bodies of the Cerulean Pnet. They mapped the sea and ocean and used it as a reference for gathering more sea resources.

They also started to communicate with the rest of the civilization. Only then did they find out that the Comberth Continent was engulfed in war through their military might or deterrence.

The Heavensend Kingdom did not participate and only let their diplomat go to the powerhouses of the continent.

The rest of the powerhouses who knew about this established a diplomatic retionship with the Heavensend Kingdom. This included the Hinon Federation.

Through this, both the powerhouses of the Comberth Continent and the Heavensend Kingdom found out about their advantages and weaknesses.

This year was known as the first exchange of the two continents. Not only that but the rest of the Comberth Continent also realized the potential danger the Heavensend Kingdom had. It was because they were the sole ruler of the Heavensend Continent so of course the rest of the Comberth Continent became wary.

But from their exchange, their worry was lessened. It was because the Heavensend Kingdom was stuck at a certain point in the technological tree and those who were on the Comberth Continent still experienced a huge leap in technological advancement.

But their naval capabilities were still stuck and this exchange could lessen the difference. Of course, both sides did not give the most crucial part of their technology. They pyed with each other as a result.

The powerhouses of the Comberth Continent glimpsed the development path of their naval capabilities, including shipbuilding, ship design and the engine of the ship. The Heavensend Kingdom also got the prototype of the combustion engine as well as some information regarding a new energy resource.

A new overall development of the Cerulean Pnet was underway.

Year Fifty-Three of the Father God.

Charlene was waking up from her sleep. She wiped her groggy eyes as she suddenly got something from the Library of Consciousness.

But the thing was that she was a bit afraid of what she knew.

It was because the new knowledge she received was about combat. Experiences of a certain someone in a battle against the dwarves, using the stone spear as the weapon to stab the enemy caused Charlene to shudder in fear.

She had never experienced this before. She knew that this experience was not hers as she had never participated in any battle. But the feeling of being there remained and Charlene could not deny that either.

“It is because of the Nafs that I experience this kind of thing!” Charlene growled in annoyance. She knew exactly what the problem was but to experience it herself, that was the first.

If it was not for her strong sense of self, she would be engulfed by the experience, immersing herself as if she were the person experiencing it. It would be dangerous by then.

It was because immersing oneself in such an experience may cause identity disorder in which you could not tell who you were.

“It is fine. With this, I now know that a certain part of history is indeed correct. So that experience is probably the event of the first Star Battle.” Charlene thought about it and discovered that the opponent the Nafs faced was a dwarf.

The only battle that the humans had experienced against the dwarves was the first Star Battle. It was written in the history books for the middle school.

“What is the meaning of this then?” Charlene asked herself that question since there should be some relevance in letting her know about such things. But she could not think of anything at the moment so she was going to throw it to the back of her mind.

Just then the voice of her mother echoed throughout the house she was living in.

  “Charlene! Wake up!”

Charlene understood that her mother still thought that she was still sleeping. She went to open up the door. Outside of her room, Charlene could see that her mother had been moving to her room but stopped.

“Mom, I already woke up.” Charlene said as she was walking to her mother.

Her mother’s eyes were looking straight at Charlene and then she pced her hand on Charlene’s head, softly caressing it. Charlene who saw this then bit her lip and let her mother do as she pleased.

“Better now?” only after that did her mother question her. Charlene did not expect that her mother could sense her feeling but this made her feel relief.

Charlene could only nod, affirming her current state.

Year Fifty-Four of the Father God.

Charlene had completed her studies of the middle school materials. She was learning the material for the high school student and focused on that.

She often looked at the sky and wondered what kind of thing was up there. She wanted to see the scene from the perspective of the thing in the sky called the star.

According to the material she received, the small light in the sky was called a star. The rge violet circle that rose in the east and set in the west was called the sun. This was also reported in the academic report in the newspaper she had read.

She asked herself what caused them to be bright and emit light for so long. As far as she knew, there was nothing that could st that long but those things she had read had been going for probably longer than she thought.

That was why she was interested in the topic and started to delve deeper into the aspect of a study called energy. From a simple kinetic energy and potential energy, she learned many things regarding this.

She also learned about the application of the energy that was generated during the combustion, allowing the machines to operate.

But she started to wonder about something.

“Is there an energy source that could st longer and better than the current source of energy?” Charlene often asked this question but so far she did not discover it in the newspaper or the science journal she received.

But that did not dampen her to find it. She also engaged in a discussion not only about the topic of the mind but also the topic of energy. She started to dabble in it but she was still learning.

She thought that there was a small particle that was small enough to affect all the things that the living beings perceived. It was due to this that some of the scientists within the Hinon Federation started to look more into it.

Of course, Charlene volunteered herself to be one of the members of the group. This surprised many scientists as they did not expect her to even directly participate in the matter.

But they permitted her to do it since she proved worthy of their attention. From then on, she had additional work to do.

She was to observe the works of the scientists in her group. She could advise them on what to do or not to do. It was simple yet could affect the group.

After all, Charlene was still a growing child so she at least needed time to acclimate herself to their work. Surprisingly, she made a decision quite quickly.

She wanted them to find a way to perceive the smallest thing possible within their capability first. This became the first task that they needed to accomplish.

  -

“Hmm…” Charlene who had been thinking for a while then shifted her gaze toward her doll. Since she could not find the solution yet, she would let it sit down for some time.

While she did that, Charlene decided to rex by pying with her doll for a bit before she studied the material that she had prepared.

She spent her time in peace and quiet, uninterrupted by anything as her parents decided to let her had some time alone. During that time, she would enjoy herself to the fullest by doing anything she wanted to do.

Of course, what she wanted to do was to learn things either by reading, observing, or small experiment.

After some time, she finished her session of studying. She grabbed her doll and carried it out of the room with her.

She also spent some time with her parents so that was what she did.

“Father, what is it that you are reading on the newspaper?” Charlene asked once she was in front of her father. Her father was sitting on a wooden chair that swayed. She had seen it on some of her neighbors and it was a bit interesting.

“Look at this part…” her father pointed to a certain part on the newspaper and let Charlene take a look.

“Competition?” Charlene understood this part but the rest was new to her. It was actually the Federal Competition that was written on the paper but Charlene knew that it was some sort of competition just by reading it.

“Federal Competition. It means that children from the entire Hinon Federation would compete in it. From the newspaper, it is actually a competition of knowledge. Charlene, do you want to participate?”

Charlene nodded. Her eyes gleamed as she was interested in the competition. Together with her father, she saw that the subject of the competition was wide, starting from the basic subject in elementary school to the subject at high school.

Currently, she was learning the materials for high school so she was even more interested in knowing about other people’s capabilities. It was because her peers were in their current subject but she had surpassed it and learned knowledge above her supposed age.

That was why she wanted to compete. She felt that she could find excitement in it as well as someone who could be seen as equal to her.

Her father then patted her head dotingly. He had never expected that his daughter would grow up to be the little prodigy that was known in the entire Hinon Federation. It left him with pride but also a concern for him.

After all, Charlene became distant with her school friends due to their different ways of thinking as well as her current knowledge. She even discovered a new field of research within the topic of mind and consciousness which was in a limelight now.

In the end, all he could do as her parent was to give Charlene his full support.
