34-Tatsumi – Hinon Federation (3)

The train was moving quite smoothly on its rail. Tatsumi even did not feel any discomfort when he sat down and let the train run on its course.

He then grabbed the backpack and held it in his p so that his back could touch the comfortable seat behind him. When that happened, Tatsumi knew this was a luxury he would not get in ordinary times.

He could hear some noises coming from the front and behind. He heard some words that meant ‘sit’ and ‘properly’.

Then he saw Charlene return to her seat which was in front of him. He wondered what kind of arrangement Charlene made.

Then he saw another middle-aged man open up a rge piece of paper that covered half of his body. Tatsumi did not know what that was until he realized that he remembered it from his conversation with Charlene.

‘Is that a newspaper that Sister Charlene often talks about? Her father likes to read the newspaper, which is why she talked about it to me.’ Tatsumi thought.

If he had the chance, he wanted to get one to read by himself. He wanted to know the nguage used by the people of the Federation.

Since he formed some sort of connection with Kudungga, Tatsumi wanted to know more about the other side of human civilization. Be it their art, nguage, locution, history, etc.

He had learned some important expressions of the nguage used by the Hinon Federation so he became the second spokesperson for the group. Charlene naturally was the first one since she learned it from somewhere.

Tatsumi watched the paper the middle-aged man was holding so much that Charlene noticed it and then handed him another newspaper.

“Do you want to read some? Here, take it,” Charlene said softly. She extended her hand backward so that the paper was within Tatsumi’s reach.

“Thank you!” Tatsumi stood, extended his hand and grabbed it. Its surface was a bit hard but the text written on it was surprisingly clear and big enough for him to read.

Then he returned to his seat and began reading. Nene who was beside him started to look at him and wondered what kind of paper did her brother read.

Tatsumi then read the front page title which was enrged to gain some attention. It was successful since Tatsumi was interested in what the newspaper wanted to convey.

“Let’s see…The Return of the Expedition. Hmm….isn’t this about the conflict back at the Heavensend Continent?” Tatsumi was surprised to find that the big news was actually about the returning soldiers from the frontline.

From this part of the newspaper, Tatsumi could find that most of them acted because their safety was threatened by the Snatcher. The expedition was called the uprooting of the source of the problem and gave him some insight into what was going on within the Hinon Federation.

From the looks of it, they had mixed reactions. After all, to do all of this, they had to send their forces away to another continent while also securing a supply line.

They did that despite the risk meaning that they were willing to spend so much effort for their conceived idea.

Whether it was good or bad had to be seen but Tatsumi only gave it some thought before he continued down the paper. He also saw what looked like a thing to promote some sort of product.

Apparently, it was called advertisement and the slot for that on the front page was super important so the product was definitely the most popur one. Even Tatsumi knew that the product was the same as the one on the television.

‘Eh? So advertisement can be done on the television too…whoever thought of that must have a keen mind.’ Tatsumi thought to himself.

He also looked at the entirety of the front page and found out that other than the two, there was also other news regarding Bren City. It was something like the incident of a bystander witnessing an accident.

Then he flipped to the back of the front page and saw another piece of news about the current policies implemented by the Hinon Federation being rectified. He read it carefully since it contained new jargon for the politician.

He read it and carefully drew the meaning of the word before he understood the gist of it. The news brought him new knowledge and locution so he did not mind taking his time reading it.

While he did so, Nene was curious about what Tatsumi read so she leaned her body to his side and found out that there were strange words she had never seen before. She understood less about it and she was confused as to why Tatsumi found reading such things enjoyable.

“Brother…what is in it?” Nene decided to just ask him about it. Anyway, he would tell her all about it.

And as expected, Tatsumi’s eyes glowed with excitement as he started to tell her about the information contained within the paper.

“Right, this is the section where the people of the Hinon Federation discussed about the new policy!” Tatsumi pointed to one part of the front page. He then expined the important part before giving his thoughts on the matter.

Nene then understood why her brother became so focused on reading that. But she pouted a little as she felt that Tatsumi regarded the newspaper as more important. But she let him read it because she knew that was what her brother liked to do even when they were still at the orphanage.

Tatsumi then continued to read while expining some things to Nene. Time passed and then Tatsumi felt a slight touch to his shoulder.

When he turned around, he saw that it was actually Charlene who did it.

“What’s the matter?” Tatsumi asked politely.

“What do you want to eat?” Charlene replied with a question instead. But Tatsumi noticed that there was an attendant who gave something to the passenger behind him so he could guess what this was all about.

And Charlene decided to expin what was avaible on the menu.

Tatsumi thought carefully before deciding on his breakfast. He wanted something that could give him both nutrition and energy so the choice should be that one!

“I want beef and potatoes.” He knew that his choice was affected by something.

‘Yes, good choice. That is a menu that I have tried and it is good for your developing body.’ Kudungga added.

‘Obviously since that is the one that gives Uncle the energy and nutrition to keep going.’

‘Right, you have read through my experience.’ Kudungga was reminded about Tatsumi who read through his entire experience when he had been alive.

“Do you really want that one?” Charlene had to make sure that was what Tatsumi wanted. Tatsumi nodded and then started to expin the menu to Nene who leaned her body to listen in.

“I also want what brother wanted,” Nene said after the expnation. Tatsumi sighed softly but accepted what Nene had said. Charlene nodded and said to the attendant who gave everyone food to give Tatsumi and Nene the menu they wanted.

Tatsumi then found the small portable table within the seat configuration. He looked at it and found out that the craftsmanship was exquisite.

‘This is the craftsmanship of the dwarves!’ Kudungga commented.

‘Yes, the way it connects and the precision it has when folded shows that.’ Tatsumi added.

Nene then followed suit after seeing him unfold the temporary table. Charlene went to the other seat to arrange for them.

Then a pte was served along with the food. Tatsumi could smell the food directly now that the distance was close. He opened the window so that the air inside could flow out. Although it was good that he could smell delicious food, he did not want the smell to linger longer than it should have been.

Other than the pte, there was also fork and knife. Tatsumi then gracefully used the knife to slice a bit of the meat before piercing it with the fork and taking a taste.

‘Delicious. The meat is properly heated and added with a special sauce to enhance its taste!’

Nene could only follow in Tatsumi's footsteps but she could not do it as well as him. Fortunately, she grasped the important thing from seeing him so she managed to do it. She closed her eyes because this was the most delicious thing she had ever eaten so far.

“Let me also taste the potato. So it is sliced into several smaller parts.” Tatsumi said while looking at the potato beside the meat. He could feel that the saliva in his mouth increased just by looking at it. So he thrusted the fork into one piece of the potato and gulped it.

“Hmm, good. It is delicious because the mix of the additive and salt is proportioned well.” Tatsumi then tried the meat. He cut it into smaller pieces so that he could eat it more easily.

He took another bite and this time he could feel the fiber of the meat in his mouth. Other than that he also tasted the extra sauce that permeated the entire meat. It enhanced the taste.

‘I have to admit that this is what makes the Darin meat even more tasty.’ Tatsumi thought as he ground the meat with his teeth. He gulped down after chewing it for a while.

Tatsumi also heard some commotion from around him. He realized that the orphanage group was the one who caused it and he listened carefully.

  “So tasty!”

“This is the best food that I’ve eaten!”

  “Can I get more?”

Tatsumi sighed as he also knew how delicious the food was so he could not compin about it either. But he did not expect that the children would react so strongly.

He could also see that Sister Charlene and Hua Fei were helping the children with their food. After all, it was something the children had never used before.

Then he ate the rest of the food in front of him with relish and satisfaction. Then the waitress walked around the carriage, offering drinks. Tatsumi knew slightly that this was the time for the passengers to get some drink.

‘Let me see first what is avaible.’ Tatsumi looked at the cart the waitress carried and saw some gss bottles filled with liquid.

He realized that all of it was actually juices from various pnts that the people of the Comberth Continent had cultivated for a long time. These juices gained popurity and were then cultivated on a rge scale to become common beverages.

‘I haven’t seen it in a long time. To me, it tastes good. I don’t know if it is the same for you, boy.’ Kudungga reminisced about it and Tatsumi became tempted to try.

When the waitress came to his seat, he said what he wanted to convey. He also told Nene about the type of drinks she could have and Nene wanted the same drink as him.

  “Miss, two Gerate juices.”

The waitress saw that it was actually a boy so she smiled softly and then Tatsumi and Nene got their cup ready to be filled. The waitress just had to pour the ordered drink into the cup and it was done.

The juice had brown as its color. Its aroma wafted out from the cup and into the nose. It had a pleasant smell so Tatsumi could recognize it as genuine.

“Here, your drink.” Tatsumi handed the cup that belonged to Nene and grabbed his own cup in front of him. The foldable table was convenient to use because there was a spot for a cup to be stored.

Nene followed what Tatsumi had done and pced her cup in that spot, locking it in pce.

Tatsumi knew that the design of the foldable table was suitable for the seat on the train because dwarf created it but this thing was pced so that it could serve as a good table while when it was stored, it would not cause discomfort.

After seeing the foldable table, he took a sip and instantly felt the familiar taste in his mouth. It was sweet with a slight sourness in it. But it also caused a tickling sensation in his mouth so he gulped down the liquid.

“Hah, as expected from the drink that you like,” Tatsumi murmured as he savored the aftertaste. This was the drink that Kudungga liked when he had been alive.

‘Yes. But where are those who share the memory?’

Tatsumi could not respond to that as that was a phrase Kudungga used when he was lost in thought.

‘Mm, Uncle? Shouldn’t you read along with me to get the test situation in the world?’ Seeing that Kudungga remained silent, Tatsumi had to bring Kudungga’s attention back to reality.

‘Oh, my bad. It looks like I remembered something important. Apologies, let us continue.’

Knowing that Kudungga was back with him, Tatsumi then picked up the newspaper that he pced at the back of the front seat. He read the part where he left and started to delve into the information there.

‘Hmm, looks like the world is in a technological explosion.’ Kudungga commented after seeing so much news about the new things utilized in practical ways.

‘When the discovery of one leads to another and it is continuous and rapid, this happens.’ Tatsumi knew a bit about it. He also realized that this could be the change the Cerulean needed to be able to face potential challenges in the future.

Tatsumi could only hope that their advancement in technology matched or surpassed the virtual opponent they would face.

While he read, he also did not forget to take another sip of the Gerate juices that moisten the throat and the mouth.

Tatsumi soon noticed that there was also a report. The report consisted of several accounts of men who had been on the frontline witnessing something that could not be done by normal men.

‘Wait, what are the Transcendents doing during the battle in the frontline?’ Tatsumi realized that this was actually the report about the activity of the Transcendents in the Heavensend Kingdom’s territory.

Fortunately, he and the group were safe by moving away from their home. Otherwise, the Transcendents' battle would spread to their location and casualties would happen.

Tatsumi got the knowledge about Transcendent from Kudungga.

Transcendent was a term given to the individual who broke free from their limitations and transcended the ordinary. They were able to use transcendent sources as their power. The problem was that so far, only the undead element was identified as such and there was no other.

But transcendent schors specuted that there were many transcendent sources. It was just that the human did not discover it yet.

‘Furthermore, there are rumors that another transcendent source has been found. Of course, it is strictly come from the Thebes Kingdom.’ Kudungga added something that caught Tatsumi’s attention.

‘If that is true, then humanity will welcome the era where everyone has the potential to be Transcendent!’ Tatsumi knew that another source meant another new potential to be discovered.

The human would no longer be limited by the people with Necromancer’s Trait as the only Transcendent who could use transcendent sources.

Just as he wanted to continue reading, he felt something was touching him from the sides.

When Tatsumi looked in the direction of his senses, he saw a familiar figure.

“Hmm, can you tell me how to fold the table?”

It was actually one of the friends Tatsumi had made in the orphanage. Almost all of them liked to ask him something when they did not know about a thing or two. It was because Tatsumi was seen as the one with intelligence in their eyes so they always referred to him whenever something unknown came up.

“Oh, Chen Fei. Did you not know how to return the foldable chair to its previous pce?” Tatsumi pced the newspaper on the seat while he stood up.

Tatsumi gnced at the seat where Charlene was and saw that she was enjoying her food. He felt that there was no need to disturb her for such a small matter so he came along with Chen Fei to his seat.

His seat was located at the end of the car but Chen Fei’s seat was located at the previous car but in the front so the distance was not far.

Chen Fei guided Tatsumi to his seat and when they arrived, Tatsumi knew that Chen Fei truly did not know how to fold the table back.

So he showed Chen Fei the steps needed to fold the table and also to unfold it. Tatsumi repeated it three times so that Chen Fei could understand the mechanism behind it.

“Wow, you’re smart!” Chen Fei commented.

“No, I am knowledgeable.” Tatsumi retorted by saying that. However, Chen Fei did not understand fully the differences between intelligent and knowledgeable so he could only let that statement pass by.

“Tell this to the rest of the group if they ask you, okay.” After seeing that everything was fine, Tatsumi left Chen Fei with that word so that the children would not look for him when they faced simir issues.

“Okay!” Chen Fei raised his hand and did a thumbs-up. Tatsumi smiled knowing that Chen Fei just learned that body nguage to mean that the deed Tatsumi did was impressive to him.

After that, Tatsumi returned to his seat and read the newspaper again. He wanted to gain more information by reading it, so he wanted to read the entire newspaper.

Without knowing about the surroundings, time passed in the blink of an eye. Although, that was retive to his perspective. The train sped along the railway to Giol City.

All the passengers of the train felt the service that they received to be excellent so they had good thoughts about it, including the group.
