Momon’s POV:
Of all the people that could have stayed until the final day Selene was probably the one who would’ve been the least popur. Not that anyone would dare say it to her face. Back in my old world she held my job in her hands and I always had to be careful what I said about her to my other guildmates. I’d guess they were simirly walking on eggshells. She wasn’t too intrusive at least and tended to keep to herself most of the time, letting us actually indulge in our escapism - just a little. Still when we heard one of our number was silenced everyone suspected her.
He hadn’t been completely open with his anti-corporation ideas but we all had an inkling. That didn’t mean it wasn’t a surprise when his body appeared on the news. Selene managed to weasel her way out of any questioning, like she always did, but everyone treated her different after that.
I have to admit there was a voice in my head saying that some other people might have come back for the end if she wasn’t here. Still I did watch them leave myself. One by one I saw them give up on our life’s work because their real lives were more important to them. I couldn’t bme them. That didn’t mean I couldn’t wonder what Blue pnet would’ve thought at this evening sky or what Touch me would think of us saving these vilgers.
“Milord the human is approaching.” Warned Albedo from behind me and I once again put on the mask of Momon. If nothing else I knew Selene was competent and came up with this. I watched the old man pant and gasp as he reached me yet only stopped for a moment to catch his breath.
“Sir Momon, men on horseback are approaching the vilge.” The vilge chief squeezed out. Selene did say this was a conspiracy by the Sne Theocracy and she wouldn’t tell me that for no reason at all. Is this the Theocracy’s backup pn? Or someone else who wanted to counter their pns has noticed the situation a little te?
“Gather all the vilgers in the warehouse. I shall be happy to come with you to ascertain the goals of these outsiders and ensure your safety.” I offered and the vilge chief bowed.
What I found on the edge of the vilge looked more like a sponsored mercenary company than any sort of army. Their gear was mismatched. None held the same weapon as another and their builds ranged from lithe, agile fighters to bulky brawlers. At their head was a rough, tanned man. His body was muscled and for good reason given the rge sword at his hip. Though he looked like he might scrap just fine too. Personally though it was the eyes that impressed me as I could see the pride and concern so many in my world cked.
“My name is Gazef Stronoff head warrior of the Kingdom of Re-Estize. I have come to apprehend the culprits of these heinous vilge attacks.” The man boomed and his announcement rang throughout the vilge as if to drown out any arm.
I gnced at the vilge chief beside me and he seemed to recognise the name judging by the borderline reverence in his eyes. “I know you must be the vilge chief. Who might be the man beside you if it is not rude to ask.” I heard the warriors voice and returned my attention to him. The vilge chief could probably answer for me but I respect the man enough to at least interact with him.
“I am Momon chief warrior. I found this vilge under siege by knights on my travels and came to help.” I answered. Probably best not to mention Selene’s cover story here, she did say I shouldn’t spill it on the slightest prodding. Plus he doesn’t seem the type to appreciate the fact I saved the nobles first.
“Truly?” He asked, dismounting from his horse as he looked me up and down. “I cannot thank you enough.” He bowed and outstretched his hand which I took firmly with my own gauntlet still on. “You have done a duty I should have rightfully performed.” We shook our hands and he raised his head to peer deeply into my helmet but did not pry. That very moment one of his men approached from behind him.
“Sir! We have spotted a rge contingent beginning to encircle the vilge the moment we arrived.” The man reported.
Gazef’s face becomes grave as he hears and I do not interrupt as he interrogates the man for details. Once he is finished however I do offer assistance. “I believe we have found our culprits and this would be a perfect opportunity to eradicate them. If you would have my assistance.” I tell him.
He smiles back at me. “I would be a fool to dismiss strength such as yours. How might we protect the vilgers?” He asks in turn. I gesture Sebas towards the building the vilgers are gathered in and the warrior captain is assured immediately. “I am truly fortunate. Know that you will be duly rewarded for your service once we return to the capital if you are willing to join me on the trip.”
That would certainly help get me a higher rank faster. I could also go the route of serving this singur country but I should leave decisions like those to Albedo, Demiurge and Selene. “That would be most appreciated.”
Shortly after our discussion we made our way to the pins and my days in Yggdrasil kicked in immediately. We needed to scout the enemy. Even if we were driven back in this conflict that would be acceptable so long as we had information for the next engagement. Albedo would be able to keep me safe in the worst case scenario. To ensure it did not come to that however I suggested the warrior captain lead the charge while I act as an unknown card fnking them.
Hopefully the warrior captain could draw out their strategy. It would not be hard to see from there whether I believed the battle was winnable. That very moment I heard the war cry. Albedo and Narberal stood beside me as we watched the humans charge into battle.
Quite frankly I was concerned. Not because they were particurly powerful but because they had yet to dispy any power close to a level 100. In fact I would think they were level 40 at best. Selene had said that the majority of residents were especially weak but these were the pinnacles of two great human countries. The Sne Theocracy’s troops were no better. They appeared to be using the same magic I was used to which was why it was so strange that the greatest being they summoned was a fourth tier principality of observation.
I waited for the other shoe to drop. For one or both sides to realise they were underestimating the other and start with at least 8th tier spells. Yet none were forthcoming. Was this an eborate show to try and make me underestimate their capabilities? Would they turn on me the moment I entered the fray?
I could not rule out the possibility but Selene seemed to think the only true threats were the dragon lords. I could not find a reason to believe otherwise at this moment. When I saw the warrior captain panting and heaving as he sliced another group of summons in two but failing to see one that sliced across his back I knew. Clearly I need not wait any longer. I charged into the battle with Albedo at my side and lightning crackling on Narberal’s fingertips.
I sliced through the summons effortlessly even without any warrior skills. The second one even looked at me Albedo obliterated it. Narberal meanwhile was just breaking the caster’s shields like they were made of paper and frying them to a crisp.
The man at their head was suddenly a lot less confident than he was moments ago and he began barking orders. “Principality of observation attack!” He sent the fourth tier summon at me despite the fact that it wasn’t a front line combatant. Gazef seemed to take a step towards me. I just sliced through the fourth tier summon like I did all the rest and that seemed to stun both the warrior captain and the enemy leader. Not for long though.
“Protect me!” Shouted their leader as he started drawing something with a glint from his pocket. I needed to get a look. I sliced through the vanguard that was sent to attack me and had Albedo deal with the rest so I could get close enough to see it. What I saw prompted a set of orders.
“Allie protect me with your skill and Nabe begin to disrupt that man’s casting immediately.” They set to do as I asked. Albedo stood in front of me with Bardiche raised and guardian skills active to take damage for a target of protection. Nabe meanwhile started firing her lightning at the leader himself. Unfortunately it didn’t manage to make it through all the shields stacked up around the man and as Nabe began to charge a higher tier spell he had already finished his casting.
“Behold! The most powerful of summons gifted to us by the pinnacle of humanity!” Shouted their leader in a zealous fervor.
In his hand was a spell seal crystal that could go all the way up to tier 10 spells in Yggdrasil. I knew they were hiding some sort of power. Or at least I thought I did but when I saw the summon that had actually emerged from the crystal I had to admit I defted. Punitomoe would have punished me for it. I knew this was the time to make sure this was no decoy and to ensure my guard remained ready for any hidden cards. Still the man’s true emotion behind such a pathetic monster was mind-boggling.
I looked over to Gazef who actually had a face set in grim determination. His sword was lifted in front of him. He and his men however had defeat written all over their faces and I could not understand why.
“I truly commend you for forcing me to use a weapon once used against evil deities. Still, now that it is present, I shall have my triumph.” Their leader was already celebrating his victory and though my experience as a pyer wanted me to think this was a trap I couldn’t bring myself to actually believe that.
“That was it?” I mumbled to myself perhaps a bit too loudly as both their leader and Gazef turned to face me.
“Sorry Allie, I had you use your skill for nothing.” I apologised. Then I turned towards the sixth tier summon that had just appeared while readying my swords. No matter how low-ranked it was the thing did have an elemental disadvantage. It was likely the first creature we had met in this world that could harm me in any capacity.
“W-what are you saying?” Muttered the Theocracy’s leader before starting to rave as though he had gone mad. “Are you insane?! Nothing can beat the mythical tier 6 you are simply a human that shall be crushed beneath it’s feet for your arrogance. Judgement!”
That final roar was enough and the new summon began it’s attack. It’s staff shattered to pieces. Then a pure white light fell from the sky like a comet nding straight on my body and blinding most people in the area. “Ahahhahahaha.” The man began ughing as he saw the attack nd without resistance. “Formidable warrior you may be but we have relics from the age of deities and you simply cannot match their mi-” He began only to be cut off.
A broadsword was pressed against his throat and the weight of the metal did not shake my hand in the slightest. He instantly went silent. Albedo was already at my side and as he looked around for Nabe I could see the moment he saw what she was doing.
“Call thunder.” Came a voice from behind me frigid in it’s tone and the cp of electricity heralded the fate of his trump card.
“No…” He whispered and despair began to creep into his eyes as I continued to stare at them through my helmet. Having detained their leader made the rest of their capture a simple affair. I left that to Gazef who was considerably more respectful on our next meeting though not nearly as bad as the subordinates. While we were cleaning them up however the air cracked. Gazef readied his sword but myself and my subordinates stared into the sky where the crack had appeared. That was divination magic being countered.
I was almost certain a certain someone was already dealing with the culprits. I should py my part.
