The even scarier monster

Reading the reports from Sebas, Demiurge and Aura takes up quite a lot of my time but it also provides me a significant amount of information. As it turns out this might be a perfect world for me.

According to the reports from Lupisregina that Sebas has been receiving she would estimate the vilgers to be around level 3. No, seriously they’re level 3. They’re complete newbies with common gear and some even have csses unreted to combat. I asked them to check if the vilge was an isoted occurrence but apparently not. When they asked about famous individuals or beings of great strength and the feats they could achieve it seemed really underwhelming. Especially compared to the abilities myself and Momonga dispyed in our little spar. In retrospect I should have figured this out, controlling time is the domain of deities in our world but for our characters it’s just another thing to take countermeasures against.

In our immediate vicinity is a warrior called Gazef Stronoff who, as far as I can tell from the rumours, is just an inhumanly strong man who can cut multiple things at once. I mean I don’t recognise a css like that but it’s nothing compared to the warrior abilities I know.

Brain Ungus is apparently his equal and they fought in a sword stadium. As impressive as their swordsmanship might be, the fact that the stadium survived means they’re probably not worth much. As for beings that sound actually threatening, that’d probably be the dragon lords. The devs had a weird obsession with the winged lizards, to the point that I wondered if this was just like all the other dragon sying adventure games when I first started. A good number of the world bosses are dragons. It sounds like these dragons are a little like world bosses with abilities that don’t fit any css but have effects that equal lower tier world items.

A bit annoying but they’re so uncommon that as long as you avoid their country you’ll probably never meet one. I probably will though. If my race’s backstory has transferred to reality like the NPCs then I’m immortal and basically a part of the world itself. Oh and speaking of races apparently the humanoids are pretty scared of heteromorphs and even some demihumans. There aren’t really any other races that have developed settlements though barring the council that I don’t want to touch yet ‘cause dragons.

Which sucks because another part of my backstory is that beings of the night should worship me including vampires. Neat that. Speaking of neat things I have to say having subordinates who you can tell “Fix the problem yourself.” and not let them compin about it makes my job soooo much easier. Reading the report on Nazarick’s information sharing made me hold my head in my hands. It was just so inefficient, almost archaic in the way information was transmitted and I just couldn’t understand how the massive tomb would stay together if it continued. Still designing a way to ferry information from scratch would’ve taken forever.

So instead I summoned Demiurge and just told him a bunch of methods for reying information. Runners, message spells, carrier pigeons and the like. Then I just told him “Write me up a system that uses one or all of these methods that improves upon the current implemented system. If you believe you can improve the methods themselves, include it in the proposal.” then sent him off.

Within the next few days a report nded on my desk that was far better than anything I could have come up with. Who knew a guardian newspaper would become a thing in another world. Also shapeshifters are really convenient messengers, they can change things like the colour of their skin based on priority and they can go literally anywhere with a bunch of different forms. I don’t completely trust the message spell though. Apparently Demiurge agrees with me there because it’s fgged for open messages about non-vital information unreted to security. Good foresight on his part.

I amend the proposal to use the message spell a little like an open phone call to our business. Expect it to be tapped but use the speed wisely. I suggest a number of security measures we used to use in dad’s company to make sure company secrets weren’t spilled over the phone but I know it isn’t foolproof.

Which is why I had Lupisregina report to Sebas first and Aura report to Clenup before me. I just don’t wanna go through the effort to verify them myself. Once they receive reports they verify them then report to me immediately if it is an emergency or when we next meet if it is a report. Speaking of Aura, her first report on the forest wasn’t actually that helpful. It basically told me the same thing Sebas did, everything there is weak and there was no human interference in the ecosystem though there were a few species of demi-humans. They were just goblins, ogres and trolls though.

As my wariness towards this world is starting to be repced by excitement someone knocks on my door. I nod towards Clenup who opens it. The other butler stands there ramrod straight on the other side with a furrow in his brow. “Supreme One.” He bows and I bid him continue.

“It appears the vilge is being attacked by individuals in knight armour with the Baharuth crest on their breastpte. They do not appear particurly dangerous. What are your orders Supreme One?” He asks and I tap a nail against my chin. The way he says that suggests that he doesn’t actually think it’s the baharuth empire or at least the person reporting it didn’t. Also what do we care about one little vilge? Well this would be a good opportunity to dip my finger into the world’s pie so to speak but how should I make this interesting?

Then I grin. “Tell Momonga I want to speak with him. Once that’s done go tell Albedo to prepare for combat oh and Sebas prepare to deploy yourself also go fetch Narberal and tell her to put on some more pin clothes.” I order him and he bows.

  ///

A little while ter Momonga appears in the room I’ve taken as my office. “You wanted to speak with me Selene?” He asks politely. Yeah I recognise the saryman’s etiquette, he teleported in but at least he has the good sense to speak up before moving.

“I know you were always the explorer type. I believe it’s time for you to start your journey with a bang, have you come up with a good cover for your undead nature? The vilge treats us as enemy number 1 among all species.” I tell him and he summons a set of onyx bck pted armour with a pair of greatswords strapped to his back. I suppose that’s one way to avoid being mistaken for a lich. I’ll have to come up with a cover story for how gaudy it is though. Also I think having a team full of vanguards is going to stand out a lot, I’ll have to come up with a countermeasure for that. Hmmm…

“Alright we don’t have much time so if you have something to write this down that’d be great.” He takes out some sort of leather bound tome from his inventory. That’ll work.

“You are Momon, one among nine kings that used to rule a nation deep past the fog in the pins of war. Albedo was the captain of your royal guard and a fiance candidate.” He coughs and I almost grin but continue all the same. “Sebas known as Sebastian was your butler, no need to complicate the story there. Narberal or Nabe was a promising young magician well on her way to being a court magician capable of using third tier or when pressed 5th tier spells. You believe you are the only ones to have escaped the destruction of your kingdom and so you will remain quiet about it unless asked. Your armour and any items you use will be assumed to come from the kingdom’s treasury. Their deference will be expined away as you being their former liege. Now obviously this isn’t going to cover all the situations you encounter and you shouldn’t start bbbing your backstory at the slightest push. Use your own judgement.” I tell him and he furiously scribbles into his notepad. Eventually he finishes and looks up at me.

“When you came upon the vilge being attacked you defeated the attackers in hopes of gaining the favour of the obviously noble personages staying there. That’s when I show up, promptly tell you something along the lines of ‘you think I care’ and then disappear.” I expin.

“What are my goals as an adventurer?” He asks and I can’t very well tell him that it’s just to get troublesome elements out of the way.

“Find out about adamantite adventurers and become one if you can. Even as a warrior you should have the strength for it but I don’t know if the guild uses a number of years or trust system instead. Make connections with the other adamantite adventurers. If you reach that rank you should be privy to a number of national secrets during jobs and that is what I want you to rey to me. You or Narberal may make reports though I suggest the tter. Obviously send them to Clenup rather than me so he can rey them and otherwise your only real goal is what we did back in Yggdrasil. Go explore the world, find hidden treasures and whatnot. Get rid of the dragons if you can though obviously I’d prefer if you did so with backup I won’t compin if there’s one less nuisance. Obviously don’t disgrace Nazarick and try to be a friendly face.” If I can use Momon’s reputation to clean up my messes in the future all the better.

Now for the finishing touch. “I figure you should enjoy yourself in this new world. I’ll take care of Nazarick while you’re gone so have fun exploring the world and bring back some fun stories for me would ya’.” Yes. Oh woe is me. I only have an army of loyal servants equivalent to deities in this world at my command. Ignore the trouble I could cause with that. Actually ignore all you know about me in the first pce, assume I’ve a heart pining for adventure and collecting just like you.

He nods solemnly and that’s that I ask him to make a gate and step through before him since we’ll be appearing near the vilge exit. Emerging into the outside world for the first time in a while feels kinda annoying actually. It’s day right now so the only thing keeping me on my feet is my aura of night and I constantly feel stifled when out in the sun like this. Even if I create a localised sphere of night around me. Speaking of which what do we have here “My, I do love watching a girl who struggles for her family. It’s so fun to see the despair of losing everyone they love, sad that I have to actually be the knight in shining armour this time.” I mean it wouldn’t be a very good start to Momon’s reputation if his first act was torturing a vilge girl then the knight attacking her. “Oops better get back in character again before he follows me through the gate.” I hide my smile in a way all too familiar to me and check the girl.

Hmm… what is she doing with her fingers? Oh, no that won’t do lets just grab her wrists and see what’s wrong here. “Ah I forgot people could actually be affected by madness from a simple aura. Most of the people I know have immunity you see. I say it’s better to let you carry on as if you saw nothing, for both our sakes. I hope this works as I think. Control mind.” I mutter.

Wow It’s like having millions of little clouds within arms reach, each dispying a memory. The most recent of which is what I’m looking for. There’s also a whole weirdly shaped cloud that I know is not a memory but I’m not certain is the core beliefs of the person in front of me. Tier 10 spells are nuts in this world. The mana drain matches that though, wow I really don’t feel like I have much when it drains like I left the tap on. Let’s just change this to, yes my usual appearance but made slightly more pretty. That’s actually kinda hard normally. I mean I made this character to be ideal only keeping my smile but this girl’s mind made me out to be some kind of monster. Rude.

Once I’m finished she drops to the floor like a discarded puppet. Thankfully the younger sister was passed out before I got here. So I turn my attention to the knight who is currently in much the same state as the girl was a moment ago.

Instead of cwing out his eyes however he appears to be wildly swinging his sword at different points on his body. It would look almost like a dance if he was a bit more co-ordinated about it. I grab his wrist too though stopping his filing in it’s tracks before yanking his head so that his eyes meet my own. Apparently I wasn’t careful enough about it though. I hear a distinct snap and realise that I twisted his neck around an angle it wasn’t supposed to. Oops.

I innocently let go and start whistling while I watch the gate. Momonga appears as Momon shortly after. He’s joined by Albedo in bck and purple full pte with her horns and wings looking more like decorations than biological features. Behind them steps Narberal in a simple brown robe and Sebas in a pathetically low level version of his suit.

Seeing as this fits the backstory I gave them pretty well I just look them over once before giving them an innocent smile. I can almost feel the bitter resignation in Momon’s gaze. “So do you care to expin all this?” He asks, gesturing with metal gauntlets at the girl lying on the floor and the bloodied corpse of the knight. I tilt my head bringing a finger to my chin. I’m about to speak when he cuts me off “Never mind, I’m not sure I want to know. Just to be clear the knight is dead and the girl won’t cause problems with the other vilgers right?” He confirms and I smile while nodding. Good don’t question my actions or things might have gotten uncomfortable for all of us.

“Off you go then. Go be the heroes and save the delicate maidens, actually speaking of delicate maidens take them with you. If you tell everyone you found her in the forest and protected her that’ll buy you a lot of trust.” I tell him.

He gently picks the girl up in a princess carry with one arm before picking up the other in the same manner. He’s about to leave when I ask “Oh and can you make me a death knight. Any kind of vanguard will do really but I want something that can survive a little while and be thrown away when I’m done.” I smile. I don’t know if I’ll actually need it but being exposed during the day like this gives me the chills. He just waves his hand and a pool of bck sludge emerges from his hand. Huh, what kind of skill is this I’m pretty sure none of the overlord skills produce anything close to that. We both watch as it envelops the corpse before it grows and a death knight stands before us.

“Well, that’s new.” I comment giving him a wave and expecting to see him off but he just watches the dark knight before suddenly a magic circle lights up next to him. Another dark knight emerges this time without the sludge or a corpse.

“Take both of these back to Nazarick once you’re finished with them if you can.” He tells me before leaving with his subordinates. I gotta admit I’m curious too but eh, my life is more important than some experiment with a corpse. If I trash it I’ll just get him another corpse. It doesn’t seem too hard to find one in his world even if I have to make it myself. More importantly lets find me more of these knights. Momon’s gotta py the good guy so he’s just gonna sughter those he sees but I wanna know what’s going on here and how much trouble I can cause. Hehe.

All I have to do to find another lone knight is do a quick p around the vilge. I had to walk so the dark knights could keep up with me. Even running they are so pitifully slow that I considered leaving them behind but I just don’t have the means to make any bai- I mean vanguards on the scene. None that would st long anyway.

It takes so long walking around the vilge that I start cutting down the trees nearest to me. That gets boring quickly. So I “Moon’s cleansing fmes.” mutter and the trees I cut down start shining a bright white while the fme starts to quickly spread to the nearby trees though it’s weaker than during true night. Silvery particles dance into the sky like fireflies. The equivalent of ash from my skill and it’s absolutely beautiful, enough to entertain me all the way until the north entrance. At which point the knight absorbs my interest. Apparently he finds them just as beautiful as me since he’s staring at them without saying a word, his sword dangling limply from his hand.

“Beautiful aren’t they?” I say as I appear far enough away from him that my aura of night doesn’t cover him. He startles swiftly pivoting towards me. How cute.

“Shadow mire.” I say casually and he finds himself sinking deep into his own shadow, hands dragging him down like the pit of the dead. As I thought, they don’t have immunity to binding. Now I let my aura cover him and swiftly approach, fast enough that he hopefully won’t lose his mind just yet. Honestly though it doesn’t matter. I tch onto his neck like a leech and since he’s a little taller than me I wrap my legs around his midriff to not fall off. Then he loses all the liquid in his body. There isn’t even a struggle as I use my create lesser vampire skill to turn him into a faithful but weak servant.

Detaching myself I look straight into his eyes. “Do you understand me?” I ask. I had doubted Solution when she said she could speak to the people of this world just fine, wondering if she had a transtion ability like ‘speak all tongues’ or something. Apparently ‘speak hidden tongues’ was enough because my new servant nodded.

I smiled and used the sleeve under his armour to wipe off the blood stuck to my lips. It kinda stunk but oh well. Then I started asking my questions “Who are you? What do you want with this vilge? What was your objective in destroying the vilge? What do you think of my existence? How has your opinion changed on that matter? What will your backing think of failing to destroy the vilge and the one who interfered with your objective?” The sorts of questions that I need immediate answers to. I’ll just give him to Momonga to experiment with ter, apparently he’s the type that enjoys that kinda stuff now. Maybe because he’s an overlord?

The answers to my questions were disappointing to say the least. He wasn’t from the Baharuth empire but the Sne Theocracy. That was mildly interesting but when I asked about it and his objective all he said was that he didn’t know. I’ll have Momonga ask him about the Theocracy ter.

The only interesting answer I was able to get out of him was the one reted to my existence. In the moment he thought I was just an assassin. A powerful one sure, but he didn’t actually see much of my abilities and quickly went mad afterwards. A memory he has conveniently forgotten. Intriguingly though when I described some of our abilities and equivalent strength he prostrated and cimed that I was a deity like the six who descended five hundred years ago. Now that peaked my interest. At first I thought this was simply the effect of me making him a lesser vampire and the possible racial backstory at work and when I asked him he does revere me as ‘The night incarnate.’ whatever that means.

Intriguingly though even before he became a vampire he cimed I would have been feared even if not revered for my strength. Because from the story he described, level 70 was the cut-off point to be considered a deity.

More precisely he described this through magic tiers. Tier 1-3 was the tier of a normal person, 3-5 was the realm of heroes and legends then anything above that was mythical. The reason I say level 70 is because they refer to super-tier magic as the magic of deities and that is unlocked at level 71. Still, everyone was level 100 back in Yggdrasil. These six deities actually sound like Yggdrasil pyers with items the likes of which people had never seen and creating a theocracy with a welfare system. Yeah they’re definitely pyers. Dunno about these 13 heroes or their enemies but I’m pretty sure there’s a level 70 necromancer and a level 70 cursed knight among their ranks so they could be noobs I guess. Or undeveloped alt accounts.

Now this is some fascinating stuff that we just couldn’t ask the vilgers. I mean who of this world would ask that kind of question. Anyway this guy isn’t any more use to me so I’ll just watch over Momonga for a bit before heading off to the theocracy to stir up some trouble myself. Or maybe I should head to the Baharuth empire? I mean, I can’t imagine they’d be happy that the theocracy is painting them the vilins and even if they were I can make them unhappy about it.
