Volume 1: The Road of Cultivation

  Prologue-

  For the first time in billions of years the majestic doors of the Heavenly Palace swung open. Standing in the centre of those doors was a man in his mid-twenties so handsome some would actually opt to call him beautiful instead.

  He was a tall man with long, straight, black hair and phoenix eyes equally dark in shade. Taking his time surveying the hall he eventually commented on its appearance in a somewhat haughty manner.

  『I’ve seen better.』

  As he smiled smugly to himself he oddly enough failed to notice the presence of someone approaching, that is until they spoke.

  『Sorry to disappoint. It’s hard to invite an interior decorator to come all the way here afterall.』

  Resisting the urge to flinch he angled to look at the mysterious girl who appeared out of thin air and upon doing so the man couldn’t help but marvel at her peerless appearance. Standing a little shorter than himself, she had silver hair with a tinge of green to it tied up in a rather practical bun thus revealing the slightly pointed ears at the side of her head.

  While the self-proclaimed Phoenix Divine Emperor did not believe he was the kind of person easily swayed by beauty he still found his gaze wandering a little despite himself. Her aesthetics aside however, when he noticed the outfit she wore he couldn’t help but comment upon that instead.

  『How luxurious, it’s also the first time I’ve seen someone at the Empyrean Realm work as a maid. I’m going to lose my self-confidence at this rate, I’m also at the Empyrean Realm afterall. Does that mean the Jade Emperor is at an even higher realm of cultivation?』

  Shaking her head the girl dressed as a maid wasted no time correcting his misunderstanding.

  『No, while the dao may be endless in regard to the major stages there is nothing above the Empyrean Realm. The Jade Divine Emperor is merely the caretaker of this sphere.』

  Hearing an unfamiliar word mixed into what the strange maid girl said, he chose to sate his curiosity by asking about that next.

  『What does that mean exactly? 'This sphere'?』

  『I am of course referring to what ignorants would call 'The Universe'.』

  Despite being shocked by what the silverette casually alluded to be an existing multiverse he wasn't given any time to dwell on it as she had already begun walking off, leading him further into the palace.

  Glancing back over her shoulder as she stepped the girl asked him a question of her own.

  『You must have surely worked hard to crawl your way in here but what does an insect like you really hope to accomplish?』

  Looking down to meet the venomous tongued girl’s forest green eyes with a fire burning in his own, the man was confident in his reply.

  『I desire what all cultivators desire. When we first embark upon this journey we set forth with one goal in mind to challenge the heavens and become everlasting. Upon ascending to the Heavenly Plane and becoming a deity I may have achieved absolute longevity, but I was not satisfied. My pride does not allow me to remain beneath anyone and so I shall truly go against the heavens today and slay its lord taking my rightful place as ruler of all creation.』

  The girl remained silent despite hearing of the man's violent intentions merely continuing her purpose leading him deeper and deeper inside. Finally before long they arrived in front of a large golden door covered in intricate carvings.

  On its surface was the depiction of a boy standing in defiance of a shadowy army, at its back an ominous silhouette that even the man with his profound vision could hardly so much as gaze upon. It was here at the culmination of destiny where the maid slowly turned to face the Phoenix Emperor, Feng Mingtian for the very last time.

  Wearing the same neutral expression he had come to expect from her, she spoke with a calm certainty as if her very words were prophecy itself.

  『I hope one day you find something else to live for because … 』

  Swinging her arms wide, the double sided doors behind her flew open.

  『You can never, defeat my master.』
