The fight did not seem to end, the rabid beasts biting and chewing on anything to stay alive against the odds of ever decresing temperature.
Frostbites fur was armor enough to stop the weakened bites, and Gorons skin alone was too thick to be penetrated, the two extra skins making it almost impossible for nonmagical teeth and claws to pass through. The only one suffering was Norman, the beasts not listening to him.
It took quite a while until he succumbed, but if he didn't go back up the stairs a bit he would have almost died several times.
The ranger was quite precise, his every hit a kill, but his abilities rather unsuited for killing hordes of small beasts.
After a while they settled on a rythm of Norman piercing things from a bit of a distance while Goron stood in front of him and punched the daylight out of everything that came within range, while Frostpite jumped around in the rats backlines and drove them towards the other two.
It took about an hour of fighting until most of them were dead. Finally, Norman gathered the corpses in a bag he had brought with him and Goron took a bit of half dried grass and ignited it, before putting it in a porcelain bowl he found there. As the smoke began spreading, both of them left the cellar and closed the door to wait for it to drive the last rats out into the open.
"Are you done already?" The woman behind the counter asked, about to make a comment before she saw Normans wounds.
"We will open the doors any moment now, we recommend you go outside while we take care of your problems last remnants. And keep others away if you want to make sure our exact operations are kept secret."
They warned, opening the door and placing the closed rat bag next to it to make sure the door stayed open. Immediately, Mary went outside to talk to the worried neighbours, she and the smoke making sure that nothing could possibly suspect what was going on inside.
Then, Norman opened the cellar door, Goron guided the smoke out, and Frostbite bit the weakened rats that stormed out, making it look as if they were professionally processing them. Soon, Norman went to the backlines and ensured that the corpses landed in the back. Just as the smoke stopped coming, they closed the door and the bag, Mary dissapearing inside to look for any consequences. Once the sounds stopped, Leonard came down, the elderly man nodding approvingly as he gave both of them their pay and they left immediately, with Goron staring at the black stuff leaking from the rat inflicted wounds.
"Let me try and heal that."
He commanded, Norman just waiting for his friend to figure out another spell.
"Infusion... how about a reverse? Reverse transfusion would be extraction... now, what do I use... there is no infestion mana... maybe death? Yeah, extract death sounds stupid... infuse fire? Yes, infuse fire sounds good, cooking the stuff. Just wait for a few seconds, you might feel like you are cooking alive."
Goron warned him, putting his hand on Norman and using the spell he just planned.
He felt a nagging in the back of his mind as his stats where used to disinfect his friend, the black goo flowing freely until all that remained flowing was red, at which point Goron used life instead of fire. Regenerating Norman.
After the procedure, Norman shook himself and stumbled, the sweaty giant a bit delirious from the experience. Thus, they went straight back to the Leeching Lute, paying their rooms for another night before they sat down on a table.
"I think I gotta puke."
Norman mentioned before standing up and going to the toilet. The warden immediately used that moment to ponder about the use of the corpses, his ponderings interrupted as his character sheet expanded before him.
"I should put those in wisdom, to make sure I have enough slots open, no sense leaving any of the stats in the single digits, especially considering that I will be living with this body until I reach rank 3."
"That's right... now let's see what we can do with the rats. We could cook and eat them, throw them at people or sell them to someone that might be interested in them." He pondered, waiting for his friends to return when suddenly a presence made itself known to him.
"Tell my friend that I will be back soon."
He told the bar keep before he opened the door and met face to face with a proud looking Born of snow.
"I had a pretty good day, so far. I hope you know that stepping any closer would spell your doom."
Goron said, the guard in front of him pointing the halbert towards him.
"I am Harald, Champion of blade, god of swords and axes. Submit now, or you shall suffer the consequences of standing agsinst the gods."
The warden laughed as the arena formed.
"I am Goron, prior champion of TrueG0d. Lord of Parasites and numbers. I will shred every hunch of divinity from you and make sure your god returns to his source."
The blade clashed against a rats corpse, tearing right through it as Goron jumped back and threw it at his opponent.
"May the strongest win."
