Interlude VI - The Sailors

Field headquarter of the riverine naval command, port of Aken, briefing room A

  Particpants: Major Carstens (C), Fregattenkapit?n Kahlmann(K), Korvettenkapitan Ohnesorg(O)

  Classification: Confidential

K: Thank you for completing my convoy earlier than planned. Do we need to look at the background?

O: No, as long as I have my wizards, I am happy

K: So what can they do?

C: Basically the same as the old style wizards, only in real time, continously and in a way that can be interpreted by everybody. And in verifiable reliability.

K: The last feature is the most important.

O: How many special wizard do you need to operate them?

C: One for medium term operation, two for long term operation. Though the operators are not interchangeable. We have, if you will, a primary operator and a supporting operator.

K: We will stay with sailing only during daylight. It is just not worth the risk.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

O: Very well, we have doubts that radar would work on monsters anyway, we will aim manually, especially the new torpedoes, should we need them.

  C: You solved that?

K: Yes, we threw money at the problem. Losing a full laser inertial system for each shot hurts, but better that than losing a convoy, let alone blocking the channel. We can drop them into the water laterally that way.

O: We tested them and the ship with the wizards will carry none and the wizards and the device get into an armored chamber above the water line.

K: How many of the devices do we have?

C: Three. You did not hear that from me. I can tell you because it does not matter. The only other primary operator we have is an 18 year old girl who needs a stick to walk.

O: That hurts. I’ll treat your civillians like a fragile irreplacable antique ceramic.

C: Let them work and help. They have no problem with that, just spare the criticism. Oh, and be prepared to meet nerds, civillian nerds.

K: Well, a field command is no fun without complications.
