“Sir, may I ask a sensitive question?” Anton asked the Supreme Adinor.
“What is it, your archmage?”
“The Undead Coalition. Why are the powers that be of this world allowing those undead monsters to rampage?”
Anton saw Adinor pause for a bit, possibly contemplating what to tell him.
“There are truly powerful beings of this world but some of those beings are members of the undead coalition. If you’re thinking that there is some sort of higher council governing the mages of this world then you are mistaken. Ultimately, mages are selfish beings and will not move without any benefit, and right now, there’s no benefit for any single organization to fight to the death with the Undead Coalition. The main reason why the Coalition remained unopposed is they have not challenged anyone powerful enough to contend with them but the moment they do, then we will witness a war that is catastrophic in proportion. As of right now, even though the undead had conquered a lot of cities in Rendindura, the number of deaths is still less than that of a severe epidemic, so that meant that if the Undead Coalition is successful in conquering the continent, then it will just be a change in management. Of course, anything can happen, so we in New Drennor are also preparing if the coalition turns their eyes on us. At the very least, we’re too far enough away that we will not be prioritized by the coalition.”
Basically, what the supreme wizard was saying was every man for themselves. At least Anton was comforted by the fact that there were truly powerful beings that could fight it out with the coalition, but since he was still a little worried, he asked Adinor directly about that topic.
“Does that mean that New Drennor can defend itself from the Undead Coalition? I thought Zalnothel could as well, so our family was prepared to stay and live our lives there, but after just a few days, the city folded. To be honest with you, sir, my family, and I are getting tired of running.”
“I will not give an assurance, and you can do whatever you want once you reach the Gale continent, but learn that New Drennor is a main city of the continent and one of the most powerful cities with thousands of years of history. New Drennor is a thousand times more powerful than Zalnothel.”
After that, lunch was over, and the Supreme Adinor said his goodbye and left. Anton was comforted by what the supreme wizard had said. He wasn’t lying when he said to Adinor that he was tired of running, so the fact that New Drennor was a very powerful city meant that they could probably rebuild their lives there.
To be honest, Anton was becoming very gloomy the past several weeks, thinking that his life in this world was eventually going to be a desperate one someday wherein they would stay in some sort of last bastion defending themselves from the undead, and he was preparing himself mentally to accept that way of life. But now, maybe he could begin to hope a little that his future would not be as dark as those end-of-the-world dystopian novels that he had read before.
Several more hours of adding and removing wizards from his party system, casting spells onto the coffee table mana power bank to recharge it and surfing the internet, at around five in the afternoon, High Wizard Marlon arrived and informed him that he could now leave the “spell memorization room” and join in the fight or return to his suite to rest if he wanted since they would be out of the Strait of Nehomonde in an hour.

Marlon did informed him that the last hours were the time when the most powerful sea creatures began attacking the Amelia and since Anton was curious, he headed directly to the deck where the main battle was happening.
When he arrived there, Anton’s jaw dropped. The sun was setting, but it was still bright enough. Several wizards were flying in the sky above the Amelia, battling it out with some of the largest sea creatures that he had seen. There were large, kraken-like monsters, ones that looked like giant stingrays that were being ridden by huge fish people that looked like those Sahuagin monsters from DnD. There were sea-orcs that were casting magic riding on top of flying fishes; there were even Mer-folks, but the half fish, half men looked ugly with their twisted faces and mouths full of sharp teeth instead of beautiful mythical creatures and a lot more varied monsters.
The mages in the sky were casting hundreds of bright spells that were so dazzling to look at, and Anton knew that he had made a mistake of not watching the battle since the spells that the mages were casting could have given him a lot of inspiration that could help him in modifying the spells from his Diablo II system.
He thought that he could assist with the battle when Anton decided to watch the last of the fights, but the fact that there were several mages flying and there were even several mages at the deck conducting some sort of ritual made the thought a little silly. There was truly no need for him to join the battle, and when he asked an idling mage, the ritual was some sort of force field that protected the ship during the last moments before they left the area.
Anton contented himself in watching the spell casting that the mages were doing. Bright chain-lightings kept flashing in the sky and tsunamis appeared on the ocean. Orbs of different colors kept exploding, and astral monsters kept appearing and disappearing. It was truly gorgeous, and belatedly, Anton decided to activate his Globe of Browser Sharing so he could record the battle. He would show it to the family mages since he knew that it would inspire them since the scene that he was watching was also making his blood boil.
Soon, the monsters started leaving. They must have received a signal to stop the fight, and that could only mean that they have left the Straits of Nehomonde. The wizards floated down to the deck one by one. After speaking to the Supreme Wizards who were waiting for them, which Anton only recognized Adinor, Numinor, and Setoro, they left to go inside the ship to rest.
The supreme wizards also left soon after and Anton followed the other mages in returning inside the ship. When he arrived at the family suite, everyone was there already including Antonia, Lucia, and Philip.
“Anton, can you tell us more about the battle? We just receive news that we’re out of the strait and could return to our rooms!” Anna said when she saw Anton.
“Unfortunately, most of the day, I was inside a room where the ship’s wizards enter to rest and memorize their spells, so I didn’t see most of the battle, but I did see the last one which was spectacular! I did record it so let me show you!” Anton exclaimed.
“Let’s eat first before you show us the battle,” Anders said, so they prepared the food they would eat for their dinner which was mostly the ones stored in their inventory since they didn’t want to bother anyone to order food for them that night.
“Did you watch the Star Wars films?” Anton asked his father while they were eating dinner.
“We tried to at first but we decided to stop because I thought that the films were too good to be wasted since we knew that we will not be able to concentrate on the movies while worrying about the battle.”
Anton nodded since he would have done the same thing and then after dinner, he showed everyone the recording of the battle the mages did outside the Amelia earlier.
