It turns out that the Gong family never had a young master; the so-called young master of the Gong family is actually a young dy. Xue Lian doesn't have a husband at all... Why does Old Lady Gong still want to marry off the "young master"? This became the biggest mystery in Xue Lian's heart.
Ever since that night, she was still Xue Lian, and 'Xiao Dun'er' was still 'Xiao Dun'er. It was as if nothing had happened between them, and they didn't even bother to discuss it further.
As for why "she" is so loyal to the young dy of the Gong family, Xue Lian didn't want to know. Perhaps there was a tragic love story between them. In any case, "she" was just a spy. As for how "she" disguised herself as 'Xiao Dun'er,' Xue Lian didn't want to delve into that either. However, they had already made a pact to help each other and uncover the truth.
On the thirteenth day, today is Xue Lian's "day of death." She suddenly became very curious about how she would "die," and a "dead person" must know all the truths. She was waiting for this moment to arrive.
In the afternoon, Shen Ma came and said that Old Madam Gong wanted to see her. Xue Lian was already prepared. She followed Shen Ma out of the courtyard. Just as she was about to step out the door, she turned back to take a look at "Xiao Dun'er." "Xiao Dun'er" was still sweeping "her" courtyard, but "her" eyes shone with dazzling brilliance. Xue Lian felt relieved; she knew that if anything happened, "Xiao Dun'er" would come to help her.
Jingsong Courtyard.
"Madam, she has arrived!" Shen Ma said respectfully.
"Alright, let her in," came the voice of Old Madam Gong.
Shen Ma gestured to Xue Lian, indicating for her to enter.
Xue Lian hesitated for a moment but still walked in.
There were candles in the room, almost a hundred of them. Xue Lian had never seen this room so clearly before, but now she could see it very clearly. Hundreds of tablets stood in front of her, each inscribed with names, all belonging to the Gong family.
"Grandma?" Xue Lian called out softly.
There was no response.
This room... Xue Lian felt a sense of déjà vu, as if she had been here before. She seemed to know the arrangement of these tablets very well. She reached out to touch one of the tablets besidherr, and suddenly remembered something. Instinctively, she picked up the third tablet from the left on the second row. A small jade tablet warevealed. "Sure enough, it's still here," Xue Lian excimed excitedly.
Sure enough, it's stilhere. ? Xue Lian was taken aback. How could shsay,aySurere enough, it's still here"? How did she know there was a small jade pendant here? What's going on? Why does she seem so familiar with this pce?
"Have you been here before?" A voice suddenly rang out, startling Xue Lian. But she quickly realized it was the voice of Old Madam Gong.
"I... I haven't." Xue Lian lowered her head and said softly. She couldn't even tell wheld Old Madam Gong had spoken to her because she still hadn't shown up.
"Then what do you have in your hand?d Old Madam Gong's tone was filled with suspicion.
"This..." Xue Lian couldn't say anything.
"Say whatever yowant;t, don't keep it tyourself." " Grandma Gong's voice suddenly became very gentle, like a kind mother speaking to her daughter.
"I... I have an impression of this pce." Xue Lian looked at the memorial tablet in front of her again and continued, "I seem to have been herbefore;e, this pce... is an ancestral hall!" Xue Lian suddenly thought of the word 'ancestral hall.'
"This is the Gong family ancestral hall." One could hear the excitement in Grandma Gong's voice.
"Gong family ancestral hall, Gong family ancestral hall," Xue Lian shook her head vigorously with her hands on hehead.d, "How could thibe?eHowow could I have beehere?eHowow could know?w."
"Xue Lian, since you've been here, you must still remember something," Grandma Gong said gently.
"I can't remember, I can't remember." Xue Lian felt a bit of a headache; she didn't want to think anymore and crouched down, holding her head.
"Take youtime;e, don't rush. For example, there was someone who stayed in this room with you before, and he told you some things," Grandma Gong said.
"Someone? And he told me some things?" Xue Lian looked around, and suddenly her eyes stopped at a memorial tablet—Master Gong's tablet. Xue Lian slowly stood up and walked to the tablet, trembling slightly as she picked it up and said, "Is it you?"
"Do you know him?" Grandma Gong's words suddenly became urgent.
"I don't know, but... but I think I know him." By the end, Xue Lian herself was somewhat unsure.
"Of course you knohim;m, he even talked to you a lot, right here in this room. You musremember;r, you have to remember!" It was clear that Grandma Gong was extremely excited.
"I..." Xue Lian took a few steps back, her expression very pained.
The door opened, and Mama Shen walked in.
"What are you doing here?" Grandma Gong said angrily.
"Old Madam, I've been serving the Gong family since I was a child. There's no need to hide anything from me," Shen Ma said, her face no longer showing the usual respectful expression. Her tone had risen significantly, completely different from her usual timid demeanor.
"Shen Ma, is this how you speak to me?" Old Madam Gong said with extreme displeasure.
"Old Madam, you've never hidden the affairs of the Gong family from me. Now that the young dy of the Gong family has been found, I, Shen Ma, must also offer my congratutions," Shen Ma said, a barely perceptible cold smile appearing at the corner of her mouth.
"Shen Ma!" Old Madam Gong's voice suddenly rose sharply. "How dare you defy my orders!"
"Haha..." Shen Ma suddenly threw her head back in ughter, but just as abruptly, she stopped. "I've been a servant for half my life. Now, I want to live differently. You're too old; it's time for you to rest." Her face had become somewhat distorted from excessive ughter, completely devoid of the usual dignity.
Xue Lian had no idea what was happening before her, but she could sense that something terrifying was about to unfold. Taking advantage of their momentary distraction, she quietly retreated toward the door...
"Stop!" Shen Ma rushed forward and grabbed Xue Lian firmly. "Trying to run away, huh?"
"Shen Ma... Shen Ma, what are you doing?" Xue Lian was trembling uncontrolbly with fear.
"Miss Gong, I've searched so hard for you, and today I've finally found you," Shen Ma said with a triumphant smile.
"What, Miss Gong? What are you talking about?" Xue Lian had no idea what Shen Ma was referring to.
"There's no need to pretend. Or perhaps... your memory hasn't fully returned yet. But that's alright; we have time," Shen Ma said with a sly, calcuting smile.
Miss Gong? Xue Lian was stunned. How had she suddenly become the Miss of the Gong family in such a short moment? While she was still in shock, she noticed a figure dart into the room—it was "Xiao Dun'er."
‘She’ was holding a vase. With Shen Ma's back turned and completely unaware, Xiao Dun'er raised the vase high in her hands and quietly took one step at a time, sneaking up behind Shen Ma.
"Xiao Dun'er—" Xue Lian blurted out, realizing her mistake too te. She quickly covered her mouth, but Shen Ma had already caught on. Spinning around abruptly, she grabbed the vase in Xiao Dun'er's hands. The two began grappling fiercely, and the vase crashed to the ground. Terrified, Xue Lian shrank back into the corner of the room.
"Come and help!" Xiao Dun′er shouted at Xue Lian in desperation, the voice suddenly reverting to a distinctly male tone.
"You..." Shen Ma froze, recognizing the voice instantly—it was disturbingly familiar to her.
"Xue Lian, hurry!" Xiao Dun'er yelled, struggling to pin Shen Ma down with all his might.
"Oh." Xue Lian snapped out of it, quickly grabbed a memorial tablet from nearby, and swung it down onto Shen Ma's head. Shen Ma let out a cry of "Ah!" before colpsing to the ground.
With a loud thud, the tablet fell to the floor. Xue Lian was so frightened she was on the verge of tears. "I killed her! I killed her!" she cried.
Xiao Dun'er stood up, catching his breath, and reassured her, "There's not even any blood on her head. I think she's just unconscious." As he spoke, he picked up the fallen tablet and prepared to strike Shen Ma's head again.
"Let's just leave!" Xue Lian grabbed his arm, not wanting to witness anything more violent. "We need to get out of here now."
"You cannot leave!" Old Madam Gong's voice rang out again. "Xue Lian, I am your mother! Have you really forgotten your own mother?"
Mother? Xue Lian was profoundly shaken.
