Book 2 Chapter 299. Chaotic Rescue (Part 4.)

Against the brandishing of real guns, the nurses and the doctor finally moved out of the way. But before they could actually go in, the door was opened from the inside, two nurses and one doctor pushed out a patient in scrubs. The patient was obviously under heavy sedation and was not fully self aware. A few people in the waiting area went in closer to the reception’s counter after seeing him pushed out. The doctor behind the wheelchair lowered his head: “Please, this is the man you’re looking for. Just - just take him. ”

“Doctor Clarke! How can you do this!?” The doctor who blocked the door earlier raised his voice: “You can’t just push a patient out without proper treatment! ”

“We’ve treated him enough, Doctor Greene.” The doctor who pushed Kevin out also raised his voice: “And there’s only so much we can do for him! He needs more than just treatment - he needs something - something a place other than a hospital can provide.”

“What the hell are you talking about? This is insane!”

“What he’s talking about is that this patient is under the influence of something supernatural. And for doctors like you, you are neither equipped nor ready to handle such matters.” The leader of the remaining group of men in black panted: “Leave him to us, we’ll make sure he’s safe and well taken care of. We mean him no harm.”

“Doctor Greene, listen to me.” Doctor Clarke looked his colleague in the eyes: “Like I tried to discuss with you plenty of times before - sometimes, in fact, a lot of times, things are not what they’ve seen. And this patient is exactly this case.” He then whispered by Doctor Green’s ears, leaving the previously stern doctor visibly stunned and disturbed.

Doctor Greene stammered for a few seconds. He knelt down by Mick and checked on his eyes and pulses : “Okay - okay. He looks stabilized. But even so, head injuries and brain trauma could take many hours to fully develop, I can’t in good conscience release him.”

“Doctor, with all due respect. ” The leader of the men in black took a deep breath before speaking through his teeth: “And that’s a lot of respect, we are fully aware of your reputation. But we need to take him with us.”

“You’re not the ones who bring him in.” Doctor Greene shook his head and then turned to the patient: “He was checked in by a colleague of his, a police officer. We should ask for his permission to let the patient leave AMA - ”

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

“Who? His colleague?” The leader of the men in black narrowed his eyes and looked around: “Where?”

No one answered for a brief moment, though there were a few people that came very close to the counter. This led to the men in black to gather tighter and clutched their weapons.

“Who are you?” The leader of the men in black barked his question at a young woman staring at him.

“Where do you want to take him?” The young woman asked instead.

“None of your business!” A man in black holding a slightly crooked baton responded.

The leader calmed his man down with a hand on his shoulder: “Who wants to know? Are you the ones who brought him here?”

“Yes.” Gloria nodded after only a short moment of thought: “And we went through the same thing as him. Can you see what is wrong with him?”

“Can you?” The leader of the men threw the question back: “How the hell can I trust you? You just came up to us and we don’t know any one of you.”

“We are his colleagues from the 17th Precinct.” Keryn stepped forward: “And you are?”

“We are not at liberty to tell you. All I can tell you is that we are here to save him.” The leader responded: “And I’m afraid we’re gonna have to take him with us - right now, and we’re not able to tell you where we are taking him.”

“If you couldn’t even know what was going on with him, how are we supposed to trust you?” Kevin asked: “And - you guys just showed up here. You didn’t bring him in.”

“And you didn’t do a damn thing when they were trying to take him away.” The leader shot back: “I’m sorry, but we cannot trust you.”

Just when Gloria, Keryn and Kevin were about to say something, the roaring engines from more vehicles came through the front door. Another group of vehicles came.

“Shit! Bring him away! Bring him away!” The leader barked.

“We’re taking him with us.” Gloria grabbed the handles on Kevin’s wheelchair and started charging out of the entrance. A two of the men in black tried to stop her, but Keryn just stepped forward and blocked them while letting her Qi glow on her palms - this bought them a moment to breathe, as the men in black realized they may not be able to win a physical conflict, especially after sustaining some injuries from the fight just now.

Keryn took off a small piece of her left shirt sleeve, wrapped it around Mick’s head to fake his appearance.

“Hey! Keryn!” Mick smiled and laughed, his voice was raspy but cheery: “How’s everything? How’s Kevin? Did you save everyone?”

“We almost did. ” Kevin said to Mick while they were just outside the door: “Rest up, okay? Doctor said you can’t talk.”

“Blah blah blah - don’t be so serious!”

The men in black followed. They had their weapons ready, just not sure when and on whom to use them yet.

Another group of men in black got off their vehicles and ran past the group. They were wearing the same uniforms, and shrouded with similar black mist.

Gloria hastened her steps. This was way too risky, but she had no choice. These people would no doubt keep coming, thus it was evident that they needed to move.
