Chapter 17: Taking It Head-On. (๑•﹏•)

Evaluation, calculation, rationality... These are important expressions of wisdom, as well as extremely useful skills for making decisions in battle.

Those who take part in a fight must understand the limits of their own capabilities and the peak of their enemies’ power. Even if the estimate is vague, decisions must be made cautiously. Only then can a fighter have a chance to walk along the edge of death, and only then can the so-called “victory” arrive as promised.

But in practice... is that kind of judgment really that difficult?

Difficult or not is hard to say. But at least for Nisha, who had always been extremely confident, her evaluation was far from accurate.

After all, due to the frustration brought on by the retreat and the irritation felt through the girl’s heart, the little ghost made the rare decision to show off, trying to deal with the enemy’s attack on her own.

Looking straight at the warship in the sky, she simply gave up the chance to dodge and, wrapped protectively around her tiny master, remained firmly in place in the middle of a sea of scorching lava and plasma.

In the next instant, the little ghost forcefully released her energy and attempted to fly toward the three “strategic-level military weapons” in the sky to attack them.

In theory, Nisha’s plan made sense. With her abilities, she could fly freely in the sky, simply by canceling the planet’s gravity and releasing energy in the right direction.

Flying at high speed like an airship and chasing down a battleship with her blade would be just a basic "effort-based movement."

But how does the saying go? Many things in this world only seem easy. Trying something based on imagination alone is never a wise decision.

For example, Nisha thought she could fly. But real flight is far from just “creating thrust and overcoming resistance.”

She could barely move in a straight line or turn at right angles on the ground... and now she wanted to fly?

Without any resentment, the little ghost launched herself into the sky, but the only result was her crashing into a nearby hill. Releasing energy is quite different from simply nullifying it, intensity, direction, and force are all crucial elements. And without any training, how could she pull off such a high-level maneuver right from the start?

So, she didn’t fly the way she wanted to.

Even so, despite Nisha’s failed attempt, the enemy ships’ attacks did not lessen in the slightest due to the ridiculous behavior of their "opponent."

While the little ghost was still trying to reposition herself to “fly” again, three whitish energy spheres were fired simultaneously.

They were the most powerful attacks from the three anti-gravity ships! Alice had only seen that kind of attack in movies. Now, facing real destruction head-on made her eyes contract.

She could confirm: movie special effects were far from exaggerated, in fact, they understated the true power of such an explosion.

In reality, when the blinding white light filled her vision, the girl no longer knew where she could even flee.

“There’s no escape. I hope Nisha can withstand it... If we survive, I’m definitely going to give that ignorant fool a lesson. I’ll teach her how to control her power more precisely, how to move more strategically... this reckless and thoughtless approach is just stupid!”

She clenched her teeth, silently watching the pure, flawless light that enveloped her completely. And, curiously, Alice didn’t feel much fear or panic.

Perhaps it was because Nisha had neutralized all the surrounding heat and impact, making the space around her feel calm? Or maybe it was because so much had happened that day that the girl was already numb?

Either way, the high-intensity bombardment from the imperial forces hit Alice directly. And in the instant after the explosion, the entire sky turned white.

The earth shook. The hills were vaporized. The clouds twisted into a stormy vortex. Violent shockwaves exploded with deafening roars. Entire forests caught fire from the radiated heat. More than ten imperial soldiers near the explosion were shredded by the impact’s force.

It must be admitted: the Royal Court of Astralis showed not the slightest mercy in confronting the “Bearers of Reverse Entropy.” Though they claimed they would do everything to capture the target alive, their attacks clearly showed they were ready to kill, even if it meant sacrificing their own soldiers.

When the dust settled and smoke still rose from the bottom of the glassy crater, the imperial soldiers, under complete control and temporarily fearless, had already surrounded the pit with weapons drawn, ignoring the suffocating heat in the air. And in the skies above, the three ships that had fired were now recharging their energy, silently preparing for the next strike.

After all, this kind of cannon, with power comparable to a nuclear explosion and capable of flattening a mountain, cannot be fired in quick succession like a machine gun.

Even the most modern generation of ships needs at least two minutes of cooldown between each shot.

“Cannons on ships 124, 156, and 137 need time to recharge. All units, open fire indiscriminately on the target! That’s an order!”

Without even checking the girl’s condition, the commander, who seemed to have a way to monitor whether Alice was alive or dead, immediately ordered his troops to initiate a saturation attack.

Even though no thermal or magnetic sensor could locate a specific target in that smoke-filled field, the continuous fire from over forty electromagnetic rifles still created a deadly storm of bullets for any living creature.

  However...

“Nisha! The ships in the sky are recharging! Kill them all while there’s still time! Hurry!”

  Bang!

This time, Alice’s shout could be heard by almost every soldier nearby. And, following that command, which sounded cruel but quivered with emotion, a small silhouette leapt from the smoke screen directly at the surrounding enemies.

To the eyes of ordinary people, the figure that appeared was the same beautiful school-uniformed girl, with long graceful hair, as if she hadn’t even participated in the battle so far.

But from Alice’s perspective, Nisha, who had previously enveloped her body with 360-degree full protection, had lost almost half her body in the bombardment. Now, the little ghost could barely use the few remaining fragments to cool the surrounding air and shield the girl’s body from all sides.
