Izzy and Jacob sit with their feet in the water, watching the water polo match. His arm is around Izzy, and he is just as madly in love with her as he was on their first date. The watch on his wrist buzzes. In bold letters it says, “Report to medical.”
“Izzy, why would they have just asked me to go to medical?" Jacob asks, putting a hand to his stomach for comfort.
She shrugs. “Maybe you need immunizations? I am sure it's nothing.” They make their way back inside and head down the elevator together.
Nurse Happy is standing behind the counter. “They are expecting you in exam room 6.”
“they?” Izzy asks
“The big boss and the doctor are waiting,” she says, looking back to the computer. Then looking up “and the boss looks angry”
Jack Harrington, the Hawaiian shirt man, the big boss, is sitting on the exam table. "We have a problem," he looks at Jacob. "Your contract specifically says you cannot have sex with Isabell."
He hands a copy of the contract to Jacob. "However, we found human semen in the orc ejacute recovered from Ms. Adora—your semen." He frowns deeper. "Luckily for you, several guests have commented on how cute you and Izzy are together, and in general, you are improving the quality of being's stay.
“But,” Jacob begins to say.
“No buts, Jacob. Be quiet and stand there while I talk.” Jack Harrington stands up and looms over the pair: ‘Well, crap, Jack, you forgot where you were in your speech.’
“Regardless, I feel there must be a punishment to reinforce how badly you have messed up." He is gring at Jacob hard enough to catch paper on fire.
“You have a few choices here. Your first choice is to just pack your bags and leave.” He turns and looks at Izzy. “Your second choice is both of you pack your bags and leave,” he pauses.
“Well, what's the third option?” Izzy's head is down, feeling like the principal is yelling at her.
“Your third option and my favorite is that Jacob spends 24 hours in the nursery.” Jack smirks at the image of Jacob wearing a diaper.
“No way, not a chance. Let's go, Izzy.” Jacob turns to leave; fshes of his mother forcing him back into pull-ups for car rides come to the surface, stinging his ego and his cheeks.
Izzy's lowered head gets lower. “You have to be joking, right? a nursery?”
“A couple of reasons, Izzy.” Jack Harrington pulls a cigar out of his pocket and cuts the end of it, preparing to light it.
“The simplest is because I say so, and as you have heard, I am the big boss around here. But the better one is if Jacob here wants to act like a baby, he might as well be treated like one.”
Izzy grabs Jacob's hand as he is starting to back towards the door and doesn't let him go. “Wait till he is done talking; stop being a child. At least he hasn't thrown us both out yet.”. She cringes at her own word choice.
“The more complex reason is that Audrey gets lonely, and she could use some company—two birds, one stone, as they say.” He lights a lighter and brings it up to the cigar.
“Absolutely not,” the doctor cuts in. “That is strictly against the regutions of my hospital.”
“My apologies, doctor; it's a bad habit.” He puts the cigar away. “Now Izzy and Jacob take a minute to tell me what your choice is.” Jack sits back down, looking awkward without the cigar to keep his hands busy.
“I want to stay, Jacob. You knew what you were doing, and so did I,” Izzy says to Jacob in a hushed tone. “Do this for me.”
Jacob's face is red with anger. “Do I look like a baby?” He snaps at Izzy.
“No, Jacob, you don't, but you will if you want to stay at the ranch. You have 30 minutes to decide to pack your bags or head to the nursery. Jack storms out of the exam room, the door bouncing off the guard who had been standing behind it as it swung open. He falls down holding his head.
“You have ruined my dramatic exit, Clive, and you know what that means.” Jack picks the man up off the ground and helps him to exam room 3. “Nurse Happy, come give him a once-over.”
Izzy and Jacob both stare out the door of the exam room, momentarily distracted. “Are you really going to let him do this to me, Izzy?” Jacob asks
“I think you're going to have to if you want to stay, and I want to stay, Jacob.” She turns and grabs his shirt down by his hips and straightens it. “Besides, it's just one day; you can handle it.”.
The doctor looks longingly at his desk. His mind fills with thoughts of putting his feet up and enjoying the test release of his favorite webcomic.
“Ok, you two leave. Go decide what you're doing in the lobby.” He shoos them away with a dismissive gesture.
Nurse Happy pops out of exam 6 and goes to a supply closet before turning and looking at the pair. “The nursery is over there,” she points to a commercial-style door with a big pane of gss showing a hallway with zoo animals painted on.
“Jacob, you can always try going to the nursery and seeing how terrible it is. If it's awful, I will help you pack,” she says, trying to be sympathetic. The aluminum doors seem to loom above Jacob's head. He is filled with terror; he reaches out and opens the door. They walk down the hallway inside together and make a slight turn to another door with the word nursery painted onto the gss. Jacob reaches out to touch the door, but it opens automatically.
