Chapter 91: The Major Shareholder (Part 1)

Seven small helicopters flew from New York, and in the cabin of one helicopter, Gu Xie was lying comfortably on the sand, looking out the window at the smoggy New York.

In this era, the land area of New York has not increased much compared to three hundred years ago, but six million people are crowded into five counties. On the ground, there are two-hundred-story or higher small grid apartments everywhere, and such public housing buildings have at least fifty stories underground. Of course, the farther away from the ground, the cheaper the rent is, and many are even provided free of charge by the federal government.

All high-rise buildings are covered with a layer of solar panels, and the entire city has turned into a deep blue color unique to solar panels.

Sparse green spaces in the tumor-like congested city are so rare, from a high-rise building, wherever there is a green space, there are dense crowds of people like ants.

"The city that was supposed to be very scary curled up its lip, Gu Xie Jian sat next to Qing Lang and smiled: "But the New York in my memory wasn't like this"

"Oh?" Bao Ruo looked at Gu Xie Chen with curiosity.

"Uh, the New York in my memory is a spacious estate, sheepdogs, radiant sunshine; and gray-white laboratories, researchers with furrowed brows, production lines with a strong metallic smell shrugging their shoulders. Gu Xie dust squinting his eyes smiled: "Occasionally, there's also the scent of stacks of checks and cash. Do you believe it? When I was eight years old, I could distinguish which bank issued those checks just by smelling them. As long as I heard the sound of the bills rubbing against each other, I knew they had been circulating for a month, two months, or half a year, one year."

"Gulp, gulp" Mohe crouched in the corner of the cabin, lifted a bottle of liquor and took a few swigs. He belched contentedly and laughed: "So that's what you mean. Hey, boss, this must be one of your childhood memories?"

"Hmm!" Gu Xie dust nodded slightly.

"Damn it! My brother and I when we were kids!" Mo He's face turned pitch black, he couldn't help but sigh: "That old man won't die. If the federal court is useful to him, I'll sue him for child abuse. When my brother and I were only five or six years old, we had to carry several thousand kilograms of heavy stones on Mount Himalaya at minus 50 degrees to hunt musk deer."

Pratyaya's mouth twitched, and he clasped his hands together in silence, muttering a Buddhist mantra.

"That damned place!" Mo Ho sighed, "When I was 15, I sneaked a peek at the native women bathing there and had nightmares for three months! The black mud flowing down her body, geez, almost made me turn gay! For a whole year after I came down from the mountain, I didn't dare touch a woman, heavens!"

Pratyaya coughed lightly. He glared at Mohe fiercely. Mohe, however, was nonchalant and raised the wine bottle. He flexed his pectoral muscles vigorously. The elastic chest muscles collided with each other, producing a crisp "slapping" sound. Mohe smiled complacently: "Later that night, I turned over thirty women, which completely eliminated my mental shadow."

Gu Xie silently picked out a thumb, showing his utmost respect to Mo He. Shrunk in the cockpit, another sandy figure, Sai Ren and A'Rediya, looked at Mo He with disdain, A'Rediya narrowed her eyes without making a sound, while Sai Ren worriedly lowered her head to look at her own certain position.

"Whoosh, whoosh. Someone had answered Gu Xianchen's comms device. The comms connected, and Qiao An appeared on the light screen."

"Last time I promised you, it's done." Qiao An smiled all over his face and said to Gu Xiechen: "A substantive position, responsible for supervising the budget and daily administrative work of a powerful department. This department has an independent judicial process, has its own armed forces, has its own supervision mechanism, and its annual budget is a astronomical figure. The department directly reports to a three-member federal elite senatorial oversight group, and you are the emperor of this powerful department."

Retired Emperor? Is this really a good thing? Gu Xiechen looked at the smiling Rong Qiao and always felt that there was something not quite right about it.

"Hmm, which department am I in charge of supervising after all?" Gu Xie furrowed his brow.

"Hmm, well. Let Joann's smile guide his words: "You see, kid, the real power holders and ordinary members are different. Ordinary federal representatives only show their power when the federal congress is in session, but the real power holder position you're asking for, that's the one that holds power even when it's not in session, this kind of job isn't easy to find"

He snapped his fingers. Jo-An sighed and counted off on her fingers, "Federal Budget Oversight Committee, full; Federal Military Appropriations Oversight Committee, full; Federal Health Department Budget Oversight Committee, full; Federal Education Department Budget Oversight Committee, full... In short, the only position that meets your requirements is this one oversight group which just so happens to have an opening. Hmm. And the pay for this position isn't bad either, you'll have a private office in the federal building, two secretaries and eight subordinate officials assigned to you by the federation, and transportation will be provided at federal expense; if needed, there's even a fast frigate available 24/7 at your command."

Pausing for a moment, Qiao An continued to ponder: "If the situation is urgent, you will have federal-level privileges to mobilize the local judicial system and coordinate with a battalion or less of federal troops. The fifteen laboratories under your supervision and the 195 branches around the world are also under your supervision, and you can enter and investigate their work at any time!"

Taking a deep breath, Joanne smiled at Gu Xiechen and said: "This is indeed a high-ranking position with great power, Councilor Gu Xiechen!"

"But which department am I in charge of supervising? Gu Xie's eyes widened in surprise: "The Federal Military Intelligence Bureau? Which branch?"

"Uh, no. Not the Federal Intelligence Bureau." Joanne shrugged her shoulders: "That's the domain of President Toxic Wolf, the Federal Congress. They don't have the power to monitor the work of the Intelligence Bureau. You're responsible for the Federal Management Committee!"

  Federal Bureau of Investigation!

Gu Xiechen's face twitched violently, and with a look of extreme disgust, he pointed at the smiling Rong, Qiao An on the light screen. Gu Xiechen had an urge to ask about his mother.

Yes, the Special Administration has its own judicial process, its own armed forces, and its own supervisory mechanism. It is basically isolated from the federal administrative system and is a department that both the military and political sides are wary of but do not want to intervene in. This damn department is specifically responsible for dealing with the dozen or so federally registered Qi Masters. In fact, the Special Administration is just a logistics department for wiping the asses of these dozen or so Qi Masters!

  Federal Bureau of Investigation

  Yes.

Stir up some trouble and muddy the waters. That's the way to get benefits!
