Side Story B - Extra 2: Introduction to Makt, Part 2

  Continuing from before, here are some of the most important things. This was also explained to Erin’s group.

  Creation of Powers:

  • To create powers that enhance or strengthen your natural ability, or to gain an extra power, you must do the following:

  •

  • Train both physically and mentally while also training your aura (yes, this is different from the mind) to increase it. Once you master your aura and your body and mind become stronger, you’re ready for the next step.

  •

  • Yes, this one is important. Just meditate, imagining that you are standing in front of a scale. If you succeed, you will suddenly feel as if you are actually there. At that moment, someone will appear—what they look like depends on the person—and they will tell you that if you want to gain something, you must offer something of equal value. At that point, you must do the following (this only works for these abilities, nothing else):

  •

  • Set limits on the powers. The more specific, the more efficient the ability will be. This is optional, but only in very rare cases.

    • Conditions: The circumstances under which you will be able to use this ability.

    •
    • Pact: Making a pact, such as dying if you use an ability against someone who is not your opponent, can increase efficiency, but… if the user is not afraid of dying, it won’t do much. This aspect depends on the user’s beliefs.

    •
    • Cost: If it requires a cost, it can be material or aura. The action you take and the thing you sacrifice must have the same value. The cost of physical things can sometimes be ignored, depending on the ability being created, but the cost of aura cannot be ignored.

    •

  •

  • Focus on the power you want and meditate deeply.

  •

  • Practice to see if the power you created actually works.

  •

  The thing is, for some reason, if a person creates multiple powers, their limit is usually four (not counting the Natural Power). Creating more does nothing. Even if you follow the same process, it won’t work—though you can “forget” one to replace it.

  It’s worth mentioning that depending on how complex the power is, the maximum number of abilities you can have may decrease. In some cases, the limit can drop to just two.

  The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

  Additionally, each person has a certain number of “Aura Points,” as they are called nowadays. These vary from person to person, but they can be used in the equivalent exchange when creating a power. They also determine how many powers you can create initially. You can create powers using only these points, but they are usually weak because, in the end, they don’t have much value—just enough for minor enhancements. That’s why, when you run out of them, you need to set requirements and other conditions to improve yourself further.

  Another thing to note is that strengthening your powers does not make you all-powerful. All living beings have limitations in this regard. Despite this, some individuals show more potential than others. This has been mentioned before, in part. Affinity makes some people slightly better than others in certain types of Makt, but there are also individuals who, even with only a slightly higher affinity than the rest, stand out much more. What determines this is still unknown, just like the origin of these abilities.

  One more extra fact: with these abilities, one cannot create something from nothing (except for a few cases that are not suitable for the general public). One can only transform existing things, usually by combining elements, energy, and spiritual power.

  And finally, the relationship between powers and the constellation under which you were born—considering there are 13 of them (though there are more).

  ||||||

  "Hey, these are a lot of 'extra facts.'" Eliah told me.

  Sorry, I keep forgetting to mention them.

  "Alright, go on."

  |||||

  Another important thing is that the “elements” you have the most affinity with are mostly determined by the constellation you were born under. However, in the end, things don’t always align exactly as stated here. It varies depending on the person, but in about 70% of cases, it holds true.

  • Aries – Light or Ljós

  •
  • Taurus – Earth or Jord. Andrew isn’t Earth, he’s Darkness.

  •
  • Gemini – Electricity or Dynja. Erin belongs to this one.

  •
  • Cancer – Nature or Gras

  •
  • Leo – Fire or Logi

  •
  • Virgo – Metal or Malmr

  •
  • Libra – Air or Vindr

  •
  • Scorpio – All.

  •

  |||||

  "What a balanced system..." Eliah.

  |||||

  Well, their affinity is high in all of them, but not as high as someone with just one element.

  • Ophiuchus – Void or Ginnung. Aelin belongs to this one.

  •
  • Sagittarius – Strength (Psychic) or Ginnung. Mathias is one of these.

  •

  |||||

  "But... Ah, I think I get it now," Alaya said. "So, his telekinesis is stronger than usual."

  |||||

  Yes, although he can also create psychic constructs, like Mat.

  • Capricorn – Darkness or Myrkr. Samantha is under this sign, but she isn’t Darkness.

  •
  • Aquarius – Energy or ?nd

  •
  • Pisces – Water or Vatn. James belongs to this one.

  |||||

  "And what about those last two?" Eliah asked. "Shouldn’t they both be water or something?"

  ||||

  No.

  This whole system was discovered in 1844, in some manuscripts. And do you know who wrote them?

  |||||

  "I have no idea…" Alaya said.

  "...I’m guessing Martin?" Eliah said.

  "Well, I’m not telling you!" I said.

  "H-huh?" They both looked confused by the way I said it.

  "Fine, I’ll tell you later."
