Anya was meeting up with Giovanni later that day, she and Samuel had just arrived at Viridian City Pokémon Center, she was wearing a black jacket on top of a white undershirt, the combination having a small resemblance to a tuxedo, she also wore a blue shoulder pack that had her personal effects inside.
When the Center's door opened, they were met with a large crowd inside along with a loud noises, seems like they were upset with something, Anya noticed that the most of the people seems to be trainers, some were even carrying a small Pokémon in their arms. Behind the mass of people, the recognizable voice of Nurse Joy could be heard, trying to calm the heated crowd.
Samuel had went around the lobby to figure out what was going on and from what Anya could figure out by listening what the others were talking about, something about a broken healing machine, a tired nurse and their Chansey not being able to help their Pokémon. People were angry that their Pokémon are left untended, untreated and in pain for too long.
Anya looking around, she managed to caught a glimpse of Samuel behind the crowd having a chat with the nurse on duty, many of the trainers in the lobby were keeping a short distance to Anya, most likely seeing her cutters caused the others to instinctively steer clear of her. The door opened behind her and inside came young woman sporting a blue outfit and a Growlithe, "Okay, everyone, please calm down and make way" she said in a clear commanding tone, trying to take the situation under control.
It seemed to be working as the whole lobby quieted down and some even whispered "Jenny is here, finally".
Anya stepped to the side, giving way for the officer who confidently walked past her, Anya had recognized that her outfit was the same as in the anime and she though how the Jennies can work with such skimpy clothes when it is still cold outside. The people inside the center made way for the officer, Anya hurriedly followed behind her so that she could get to Samuel.
"Greetings officer Jenny" Samuel said as they got "Ahh, Anya, nice of you to join us" he said after seeing her behind Jenny.
"A friend of yours, professor?" Jenny asked the Samuel as she took a better look at Anya.
"Yes, officer, this here is Anya, she is by far the most intelligent Pokémon I have met, ever"
"Well, she doesn't look like any of the local species, nor do I remember reading about such a Pokémon in our family's recorded files."
"How intelligent are we talking about?" asked the Nurse curiously. "I know from the records that a Leavanny known as Anya has shown unremarkable intelligence and wisdom around the Pokémon Center."
"Well..." Samuel said while scratching his head, his gaze met Anya's for a moment before going back to the nurse. "The closest I would say is Human-like." he said in a quiet voice that only the two of them could hear.
"But, we have a more pressing matter at hand" he said out loud soon after as he waved his hand around in an arc. Gesturing at the still upset, but quiet crowd around them.
"Well, the machine is still broken and Chansey is resting, the mechanic said that he will come take a look as soon as he can, but it will take at least few hours more for him to get here" The nurse said as she looked at the clock.
The nurse and Samuel shared their knowledge about the situation to Jenny who then took to the front of the crowd
"Ahem*" The officer cleared her throat ready to address the crowd, Samuel and the nurse stood next to her "Please be calm, the situation is under control and the repairmen is on his way." She said in a clear voice "We know it pains to see your friends hurting, please consider recalling your Pokémon inside their poke balls if you haven't already, the poke ball will keep the Pokémon safe."
Suddenly a melodic sound *ding ding di-di ding* sounded out inside the lobby, everyone seemed to turn towards the origin of the sound. They saw Anya on her knees frozen in place and her head turned in their direction. She didn't like that the familiar tune had alerted everyone to her meddling, the nurse hurried to the machine and rapidly operated the machine, preparing its initial setups to accept the sick and injured Pokémon that needed healing.
"What did you do?" asked Samuel as he got closer to Anya. She used her cutters to point at a small switch hidden between the healing station and the counter right next to it.
"How am I not even surprised" said Samuel as he massaged his forehead.
"The machine is back in action?" asked Jenny, to which she got an affirmative nod from the nurse. "All is well people, please deposit your injured and sick Pokémon at the counter in an orderly manner." She said keeping the line in order with her watchful gaze.
"Now nurse, if you could register Anya to the league database, we are in a bit of a tight schedule" said Samuel as he noticed that the appointment with Giovanni was withing the hour.
"Sure thing professor, just have him inside a poke ball and we will update the database" the nurse responded
"Well, the problem is that it seems impossible, at first I had her inside a normal poke ball, but after some time, she broke out of it or more specifically the poke ball just broke attached to my belt."
"We did try recapturing her, we even tried using some of the more advanced balls I had on hand."
"Okay, so we will just have input her manually, should not take too long. Just a few questions and we are done." she said as she started operating an old computer
"Species?"
"Leavanny, L-E-A-V-A-N-N-Y"
"Name?"

"Anya"
"Owner?"
"Anya"
"Huh?"
"Let me explain, Anya wants to be an independent Pokémon and I have judged her to be autonomous enough to be able to operate in the society even with her incapability to talk directly, she even has had a job offer from Giovanni himself."
"I see, well she will need a government stated approval in addition to this to actually be a registered citizen of the kan- I mean Indigo" she said while she stamped and signed a printed paper before handing it to Samuel.
"This is still a work in progress, thank you for your assistance"
Samuel turned to Anya who had attentively followed the conversation, nudged his head towards the exit, taking the cue they both left after another round of thanks with a farewell at the end. It was time to meet with Giovanni.
"I'm so sorry about this Anya, I didn't think it would take so long at the Pokémon Center."
Anya gave him an upbeat chirp and waved her cutters in dismissal, she didn't really mind the late lunch today, she was just happy to get out of the crowded Pokémon Center.
Arriving in the lobby of the office building, they were greeted by the receptionist.
"Greetings Anya and Professor Oak, please proceed to the elevator and take the top floor" she said while writing down their entry in a log book.
Entering the elevator just as the doors were closing, they heard a shout "Hold the door!" and Samuel instantly pushed his hand in between the door to stop them, while Anya just pressed the button for the doors to open.
"Thank you for keeping the door open" At first glance the new arrival seemed to be an employee of the company, but something about the small shield shaped symbol with a red letter 'R' below the name tag made Anya shiver.
"No worries" stated Samuel with a smile.
Arriving at the top floor, the elevator stopped once before to let the employee out on floor 23, Anya took a note on how the employee tried to discreetly look at her, it was quite awkward for her to not react to the constant glances that was made at her.
When the employee left, Samuel voiced out his dissatisfaction. "Well, that was awkward" he said out loud after the doors have closed. "He couldn't make it any more obvious with the constant glances at us"
"[So it wasn't just me]" Anya voiced out in a chirp.
"Yeah, apparently so" Samuel was getting better at deciphering what Anya was talking about after they had come to an understanding that she need to be more vocal about things in order to give Samuel a chance to understand and learn.
The elevator stopped with a ding, opening the doors and revealing a small lobby of sorts, where a secretary was sitting in front of a desk that was stationed next to the elevator.
"You must be miss Anya, I see the Professor is also with you" the secretary stated, she reached for the intercom on the desk and spoke "Sir, Miss Anya and Professor Oak have just arrived"
Then a voice replied from the intercom after a while, "Good, send them in"'
"This way please" said the secretary as she stood up, walked to the door and opened it wide to let Anya and Samuel in, closing the door behind them.
Giovanni finished sorting some papers and rose up from his desk to greet them in a friendly and respectful fashion, he wore his iconic black suit with a red 'R' on the side and a white undershirt. The interaction caught Anya off guard as the behavior was completely different now than it was when she met him alone, she reasoned that the change in attitude might be about the prestige Samuel carried with him. On the streets no one really interacted with the professor, everyone was subtly keeping their distance from him and it was something that Anya had found interesting. She wondered if there was some kind of secret that kept people at bay or if the people living here are just that different.
Everyone was properly seated, Giovanni at his desk with Persian lounging next to him, Anya and Samuel were seated in front of the desk. Samuel had found the chair design for Anya quite interesting, he just did not have enough time to marvel at the exquisite craftsmanship before Giovanni started the meeting.
"Thank you for coming" Giovanni said somberly, grabbing the attention of Anya and Samuel.
"First things first, I would like to apologize to Anya, there has been a small snag in your employment" Giovanni said seriously "Nothing too serious, it is just that we don't have the means to employ yourself due to your unique circumstances, yet." After a short pause he continued "We would still like to have you with us, it would take us approximately 3 months to get everything set up and you would then be ready to start working, but we need to sign the contract today."
"So you would need Anya's commitment to start making these necessary changes?" Samuel injected himself into the conversation on Anya's behalf.
"Precisely so, as expected from the esteemed Pokémon professor. We would like Anya to sign a binding 2-year contract to justify the acquisition of necessary equipment for her use in the job, such as the custom made typewriters for example." "Anya would retain the ownership of all items that are specially tailored for her, the cost will be automatically deduced from her bi-weekly payments during the two year period." Giovanni finished talking and took a sip from his mug.
"There is also the subject of commuting to the work office, we are ready to offer you a single cell apartment here in Viridian with the same condition as the aforementioned effects, a flat sum would be taken directly from your pay for the rent and other necessary expenses."
"Here are the contract papers, please read them through carefully, if you have any questions, I am ready to answer with the best of my abilities" He said while taking a more relaxed pose and leaned back.
Carefully reading through the papers, Anya and Samuel had to be careful on what and how things were written in the contract. After hours of negotiating they managed to iron out a satisfying contract for both parties the main concern they had was for Anya's safety at work, as she didn't have any legal protection that any Human had while working. They had carefully crafted the contract. Even Giovanni gave out an approving laugh.
At the end of the day, Anya did agree to sign the contract, she also decided to get the apartment, she liked the idea of living on her own and with that the meeting was done, they shook hand on cutter and finalized the deal.
On the way out of the office Giovanni said his parting words "See you in three months and welcome to Rocket Corporation"
