2. Frozen land

Xie Yeming turned into nothingness. The Dark Sovereign was gone; his reign was over.

An intense resentment filled the air, and everyone in the Abysal Dominion felt it. The once wickedly enchanting place lost its vitility.

The sun never rose in the Abyssal Dominion, and it was the lava that illuminated the place.

Now, with Xie Yeming gone, the place turned dark instantly, and the lava hardened into rocks. The warmth vanished, and in its place was endless cold.

Goddess Xuanyin, the goddess of fate and reincarnation, started looking for his soul to seal him. It did not take her much time to find it.

Xie Yeming's soul was filled with intense resentment. So, it was easy to find him.

Holding a Soul Stone with one hand, she diffused her spiritual energy through it while she started sealing his soul.

But halfway through, she sensed a fluctuation. The Soul Stone in her hand became hot, scorching even before it shattered into fragments.

Not just the cultivators, even the Gods were gobsmacked to see such a strange phenomenon, and they did not react for quite some time.

"What was that?" one of the cultivators exclaimed from behind, breaking everyone from their trance.

However, they did not have much time to dwell on the matter, for the temperature around them dropped suddenly.

Except for the Gods and some of the strongest cultivators, everyone felt chills run down their spines and goosebumps erupt on their skins. It was freezing, and some of the weaker ones started shivering, their teeth clattering.

Goddess Xuanyin frowned, her brows knotting together thoughtfully. This was not how it was supposed to be. Something was wrong. But she could not comprehend what.

Puzzled, she glanced at the other Gods who held a similar expression as hers.

"Lord Fengdu, do you sense the abnormality?" she asked softly, maintaining an impassive face.

"Yes, Goddess Xuanyin. Something is wrong. Could you..."

Before he could ask his question, he gasped loudly, and everyone looked in the direction he was staring. Their eyes widened in fear when they saw what was happening.

The Abyssal Dominion, which had lost all its vitility, was morphing into ice. The entire place was slowly turning white, a barren land.

Lord Tianxu hurled fireballs instantly. However, they had no effect. The ice continued to devour the land and reach them slowly.

"This is bad," Goddess Xuanyin muttered, and everybody looked at her apprehensively.

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

"I cannot sense Xie Yeming's soul."

Xie Yeming's soul had been in her grasp. She was almost done sealing it to the Soul Stone, preventing his reincarnation. But, the situation did not transpire as per her wishes.

When the Soul Stone had shattered, Xie Yeming's soul had escaped her clutches, and now, she could not detect it at all. It was a first for her, and she was at a loss.

Not just her but the other gods were also spooked, and they stared at her in worry.

"What are we going to do? How..."

Screams erupted from behind, and the Gods were taken aback to see the ice had already reached them and was now devouring the cultivators one by one.

They did not even have the time to react, and some of the weaker ones could not even scream before they froze to death.

The air grew so cold that even the gods could feel the sting of its unnatural presence.

"This should not be happening. What went wrong?" Xuanyin whispered as she directed her spiritual power to the now frozen sculptures.

But there was no effect. The sculpture remained as it was. Nothing could melt it, not even the divine flames.

With a wave of his hand, Lord Tianxu summoned a golden sigil—a divine seal meant to suppress calamities. But as the ice crept toward it, the golden glow flickered before vanishing into the void, devoured by the abyssal cold.

"This is bad, Lord Fengdu," one of the cultivators shouted. "We will have to leave from here."

The cultivators did not have to be told twice. They disappeared from the place one by one, even before the gods did.

They did not know what was happening. But if they continued to stay at the Abyssal Dominion, they would all freeze to their deaths.

Bai Qingxue frowned in dismay when she saw the cultivators behaving cowardly. This was not what she had expected. This was not how it was supposed to be.

And why was the Abyssal Dominion turning to ice? What was happening?

"Holy Saintess, we should leave as well," one of her admirers, Xu Zhi, reminded her, and Bai Qingxue snapped out of her thoughts.

Pursing her lips, she did not leave the place. Instead, she approached Goddess Xuanyin.

"Holy Saintess, wait for me!" Xu Zhi shouted from behind and followed her. But she ignored him.

"Goddess Xuanyin, what is happening? Why..."

"Bai Qingxue, we should leave this place quickly. Something is wrong," Goddess Xuanyin warned her, and Bai Qingxue's heart dropped when she saw the gods' expressions.

"Can we not melt the ice and stop it from freezing everything?"

"It will not work. Whatever it is is stronger than us." Goddess Xuanyin shook her head and watched the land around her being consumed by ice quicker than she could comprehend.

"Let us leave the place first. We will decide what to do later."

"What about them?" Bai Qingxue pointed at the frozen people and felt terrible. Were they supposed to leave them? Was there no way to save them?

"Bai Qingxue, they are all dead. We cannot revive them. We should leave this place before we end up like them," Lord Tianxu advised before turning to the other gods.

"I will wait for you in our Realm," he said before vanishing from the place.

One by one, all the people started leaving the Abyssal Dominion.

"Holy Saintess, we should leave as well," Xu Zhi reminded her again, and Bai Qingxue nodded.

A dreadful feeling settled in her heart as she stared at the place that had once been her home.

  Home.

Bai Qingxue felt bitter, and a heavy sadness fell upon her. Her emotions were foreign, and she could not decipher what was happening.

Why did she feel miserable? Why was she missing her Master, the man she had betrayed to support righteousness?

Bai Qingxue clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms. The ice was merely freezing the land, yet her chest felt hollow, as though something far more precious had been stolen away.

Something was terribly wrong. Bai Qingxue felt it. She knew it.

"Bai Qingxue, we must leave now," Xu Zhi shouted.

Only a small patch of land remained, and they were the only two left in the Abyssal Dominion.

Xu Zhi noticed Bai Qingxue in a trance, and he held her hand, disregarding any courtesy. Saving their lives was important.

The moment the two vanished from the spot, the entire Abyssal Dominion turned into a vast stretch of barren land with no speck of light, freezing everything in it.
