Chapter 3 NO.1
Wu Lun smiled, "What a coincidence!"
The woman laughed again, but the laughter came from behind her at the same time. Wu Lun turned around and saw Li Na smiling brightly at him, seeing that she was also holding a buffet, Wu Lun found a table and said, "Sit down and eat together?"
Li Na didn't beat around the bush either and sat down to ask, "Why would you want to rent a house? Doesn't your company arrange accommodations for investment managers like you?"
"Assistant, that set has already been allocated to the newly recruited investment manager. Mine may take some time to resolve, so I can only find a place to live on my own for now."
"The newly recruited investment manager seems to have his own housing." Li Na was astonished.
"The company has its own rules." Wu Lun was unwilling to explain too much.
Li Na pouted and let out a soft sigh, as if she already knew what was going on. "Then you don't have to deliberately look for it either, anyway we have an empty room there."
Wu Lun was shocked, "Isn't there another girl who agreed?"
"That's right, beautiful girl! But it should be fine, there are some male and female roommates in our building too. I refused earlier mainly because I didn't want a strange man to move in, since we don't know each other. But we know each other, and we're colleagues from the same company...and I think you're a good person." Li Na smiled slightly, her rough red cheeks flushing up.
Wu Lun looked at Li Na seriously, "I really need to find a place to live urgently, it's best if I can rent one, but you should discuss with your roommate first and ask for her opinion."
"Alright, I'll get back to you before I leave work."
In the afternoon, Cheng Lü's assistant Sun Jia took Wu Lun to the logistics department and handed him a ThinkPad laptop. The network cable was readily available, and after plugging it in, he could access the internet. However, he couldn't connect to the company's database. Wu Lun wouldn't be foolish enough to ask about it, even though he thought there wasn't much important information in the database. Sun Jia didn't leave any instructions, and Cheng Lü acted as if she didn't exist. Wu Lun casually opened the company's website and browsed through it. That was when he discovered that Rong Xing Investment was a joint venture between Rong Xing Group and UBO Bank of Singapore. The specific model involved Rong Xing Group collecting renminbi funds domestically, while UBO collected US dollar funds overseas, with both funds being managed by Rong Xing Investment. This was a cooperative fund model adapted to the current state of China's currency circulation. Wu Lun didn't need to be surprised, but he wondered why Rong Xing's joint venture partner had to be UBO. Wu Lun rubbed his eyebrows and let out a long sigh, thinking "not again?" As soon as these three words popped into his mind, Wu Lun stood up, but quickly sat back down with a dejected expression, realizing that he still owed Rong Xing 3,000 yuan. Wu Lun started laughing, feeling like he had finally found something to be happy about. He didn't know why, but he enjoyed this kind of self-deprecating freshness.
Wu Lun's exaggerated silent laughter gradually faded away, his fingers tapped a few times on the bright desktop, and he let out a snort, "Does Director Cheng like to stand behind people?"
Wu Lun's casual tapping on the desk seemed to have a magical power, and the few consecutive knocks made Cheng Lai's heart rate suddenly lose its rhythm. The following words made Cheng Lai's usually pale and icy face suddenly flush with two red clouds, and she was instantly in a state of nervousness and unease. She knew it was her fault, she shouldn't have entered without knocking, nor should she have sneaked up behind him when he was smiling at the computer screen. She wanted to see what Wu Lun was laughing at on the computer, but she never expected to face such an embarrassing situation.
Cheng Lu forced herself to calm down, even if Wu Lun wasn't looking at something he shouldn't be during work hours, she had no reason to feel so guilty. The person in front of her was just someone who was penniless and holding a fake diploma, needing her pity and charity. Thinking this, Cheng Lu's heart gradually calmed down, the awkward heat also slowly dissipated, and she shifted her feet, already able to face this person.
"You saw me come in, why are you pretending not to know?" Cheng Lai's gaze was filled with disdain, thinking about whether she should go to the Information Management Department later to retrieve Wu Lun's online browsing records. In the past, she would never be so bored, but now she didn't mind using this to embarrass Wu Lun.
Wu Lun hesitated for a moment, his mouth twitching into a smile as he looked at Cheng Lai staring at him, and said with a helpless laugh, "You're using Beyo, aren't you?"
Cheng Lu involuntarily lowered her head slightly, taking a light breath through her nose to confirm that it was just a faint scent. She knew very well that this perfume wasn't suitable for the office, so she had only sprayed a little, but hadn't expected that this guy would still pick up on it. Cheng Lu put away her slight embarrassment and raised her head to scrutinize Wu Lun with a glance, her eyebrows furrowing slightly. "This afternoon there's a venture capital forum; you go attend."
Although somewhat surprised, Wu Lun had no opinion, "OK, who am I going with?"
"It's just you, everyone else in the company is very busy."
Wu Lun shrugged and fell silent.
……
Cheng Lu didn't say much, and Wu Lun was also confused by the company's driver to Beicheng University's Resource Building. It wasn't until they arrived that he found out it was an International Biomedical Investment Forum. Wu Lun took a glance and saw his own name among the guest list, but the last two words were scribbled out. As for the long list of funds, research centers, investment companies, and pharmaceutical companies, Wu Lun didn't recognize any of them, and he secretly felt relieved.
"Look at you, the newly recruited investment manager isn't you, is it?" The speaker was a man with some white hair, but he had a well-maintained face that made Wu Lun unable to judge his age for a moment. When signing, he stood behind him and then followed him all the way over to sit together.
Wu Lun smiled, "Do you know who that investment manager is?"
He shrugged his shoulders, "How could I not know, Yue Zheng."
Wu Lun uttered an "oh" sound, and saw that the other person's eyes were slightly dazed, "No reaction?"
Wu Lun smiled, "He used to be your colleague?"
"You don't seem stupid, but you appear to be new here. You didn't react at all when I mentioned Yue Zheng's name, are you really not aware of who he is?"
"I don't know."
That man smiled, interestingly, a young and ignorant but calm and composed person. "Yue Zheng is the only one in North City VC, as long as it's within the circle, no one doesn't know him."
Wu Lun carefully recalled the people he saw on the day of the interview, thinking about who might be Yue Zheng, but how could this possibly yield any results. However, a new question suddenly arose: "Why would someone like him participate in recruitment?"
That person's mouth twitched, "It's just that you're lucky. How could Yang Zheng possibly attend a recruitment and let people pick and choose? The whole thing was just to cover up the suspicion of poaching talent, after all, Yang Zheng's job-hopping is not a small matter in the industry."
Wu Zhuo was stunned. If what this person said was true, then he was indeed very lucky. It was clear that except for himself, none of the others who went to the interview that day were hired. The candidate had already been predetermined.
"This is my business card, if you're not satisfied with what's going on in Chongqing, you can contact me." The man pulled out a business card.
Wu Lun took a glance and saw Deng Qun, the director and general manager of Beiguang Investment. Wu Lun nodded slightly and put away the business card to listen to the host's speech. Although this investment forum might be insignificant to others, it was an opportunity for him to understand the mainland investment circle. However, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Deng Qun still staring at him, seemingly waiting for something - perhaps his business card? A recruitment that was originally just a formality had unexpectedly hired him, so Deng Qun must be curious about him. Wu Lun's heart fluttered with amusement. When he turned to look at Deng Qun again, his face was expressionless. "I'm just an investment assistant, and my monthly salary is only 3,000 yuan." He ignored Deng Qun's astonishment and refocused on the stage.
After a moment, Deng Qun burst out laughing, glanced around at the surrounding gazes, and even the host was taken aback for a second. However, Deng Qun didn't show any embarrassment, instead smiling playfully, but he didn't speak to Wu Lun again.
