CHAPTER 2.6: Yan Qi and the Mayis

Hong Maiyi may have been small, but she had no shortage of tears.

Guo Dalu suddenly realized that a woman′s size had nothing to do with how much she could cry. In fact, the smaller and more delicate a woman was, the more tears she seemed to shed.

Many things about women were like that.

The fatter a person, the less they seemed to eat. The piner a person, the more they fussed over appearances. The older a person, the thicker their powder. The more clothes someone owned, the thinner they dressed.

Sigh… Women truly are strange creatures.

Guo Dalu let out a long sigh. Hong Maiyi kept crying, and he could no longer take it.

He had no choice but to leave.

But Yan Qi wouldn′t let him.

Wang Dong had already id back down, covering his head to sleep. Once he fell asleep, he wouldn′t care if someone died.

Yan Qi grabbed Guo Dalu and said, "If you leave again, what should I do with these four people?"

Guo Dalu said, "This is your problem, not mine."

Yan Qi said, "But if you didn′t help me, how could I have caught them? If I hadn′t caught them, how would I have this problem?"

  Guo Dalu frozen.

Yan Qi, worried that he hadn′t made himself clear enough, continued, "If you hadn′t helped me, they would′ve caught me. At most, I′d die once more, without any trouble at all. But now I can′t kill them, and I can′t let them go. What should I do?" The clearer he made it, the more confused Guo Dalu became.

Suddenly, Wang Dong poked his head out from under the bnket and said with a smile, "I have a good idea." Yan Qi sighed in relief and said, "Why didn′t you say so earlier?"

Wang Dong said, “You don′t want to kill them, and you don′t want to let them go either. Why not just keep them here and take care of them for the rest of their lives?”

Guo Dalu immediately cpped his hands and ughed. “Good idea! That actually makes a lot of sense. Besides, they′re so small—they probably don′t eat much.”

Hong Maiyi immediately stopped crying and said, “I only need two small bowls of rice mixed with pearl powder each day, along with a bit of seafood and a few slices of peach. If there are no peaches, honeydew melon will do.”

Yan Qi′s face remained expressionless. He stood there, muttering to himself, “Rice with pearl powder? Seafood? Peaches? …That′s not too hard.” Then, all of a sudden, he turned around and walked away.

Guo Dalu asked, “Where are you going?”

Yan Qi replied, “To find a coffin, lie down in it, and have someone bury me. That would be much easier than finding pearl powder and peaches every day.”

Guo Dalu sighed. “Well, in that case, to save you the trouble, I suppose we′ll just have to let them go. That′s at least easier than finding someone willing to hang upside down and drink with us.”

As he spoke, his hands were already untying the acupoint locks on the ants.

They had arrived quickly, and they left just as fast.

The three of them watched as the mayis walked away. Then, suddenly, they all turned to look at each other.

Guo Dalu asked, “You wanted to let them go from the start, didn′t you?”

  Yan Qi responded, “Oh?”

Guo Dalu continued, “But you didn′t want to say it outright because we all put in the effort to capture them. If we just let them go, you were afraid we wouldn′t be satisfied. Actually…”

Yan Qi cut him off. “Actually, you wanted to let them go from the start too, didn′t you?”

The three of them looked at one another and suddenly burst into ughter.

Guo Dalu ughed and said, “Turns out, letting people go isn′t just easier than killing them—it′s a lot more enjoyable too.”

Yan Qi nodded. “Exactly. If we had killed them, we definitely wouldn′t be feeling this happy right now.”

Wang Dong added, “But if we let them go and they end up hurting others, that wouldn′t be so enjoyable anymore.”

Guo Dalu shook his head and quickly said, “That won′t happen. I don′t think they′re truly bad people. Even if they′ve done some questionable things in the past, I′m sure they′ll change from now on.”

Then he suddenly winked and lowered his voice. “And even if they really are bad, after hearing what I just said, they′d probably be too embarrassed to keep doing bad things.”

Yan Qi asked, “Do you think they actually heard you?”

Wang Dong said, "Of course I can hear. This person′s voice is so loud that even a deaf person ten miles away can hear it."

Guo Dalu ughed and said, "Right, my voice is always good. In the past, many people said I had a natural golden voice. When I′m in a good mood, I′ll sing a couple of songs for you to hear."

Wang Dong sighed and said, "If you really have to sing, it′s best to wait until I fall asleep before you do." He covered his head back up with the bnket and said, "As long as I′m asleep, even if you step on a chicken′s neck, I won′t wake up."

They were the kind of people who really had their own unique way of doing things.

Sometimes they did things right, sometimes they did things wrong.

But, no matter what, the things they did were never bloody or disgusting.

What they did not only made themselves happy but also brought joy to others.
