CHAPTER 2.2: Yan Qi and the Mayis

Guo Dalu's eyes shifted. "Want a drink?"

  Yan Qi answered, "Sure."

Guo Dalu immediately handed the wine bottle over, eager to see how the wine would spill out of this person's nose.

To his surprise, this person's skill was far superior. "Gulp, gulp," he downed more than half the bottle in one go without spilling a single drop.

Guo Dalu's eyes widened in astonishment. "Have you drunk like this before?" he asked.

Yan Qi replied, "A few times."

He suddenly smiled and added, "I wanted to see if it was possible to drink this way." If someone has even tried something like this, there are probably very few things they haven't done.

Guo Dalu couldn't help but ugh. "What else have you tried?"

Yan Qi said, "Pretty much anything you can think of."

Guo Dalu chuckled. "I doubt there's anything more uncomfortable than drinking wine while hanging upside down, right?"

Yan Qi replied, "There are a few things."

Guo Dalu asked, "Really? What's the most uncomfortable thing then?"

Yan Qi said, "The most uncomfortable thing is being nailed inside a coffin and buried underground."

Guo Dalu's eyes widened even further. "You've tried that too?"

Yan Qi replied calmly, "Not too many times, just twice."

Guo Dalu suddenly flipped down from mid-air and stared at him.

Yan Qi's face showed no expression.

After a long while, Guo Dalu sighed and said, "If you're not a braggart, then you must be a monster."

Wang Dong suddenly interjected, "He's a monster."

Yan Qi smiled and said, "Likewise."

Guo Dalu cpped his hands and ughed. "Right, right, we're all monsters here. Otherwise, we wouldn't have ended up in this pce." He then added, "The first time I came here, it was because I wanted to be a bandit. What about you?"

Yan Qi said, "I didn't want to be a bandit because I already was one."

Guo Dalu looked him up and down, suppressing a ugh. "A bandit like you must be a clumsy one."

Yan Qi replied, "Not clumsy, just unlucky."

  Guo Dalu asked, "Unlucky?"

Yan Qi sighed and said, "If it weren′t for bad luck, why would I have ended up here?"

Guo Dalu asked, "Right, why did you come here? What are you trying to do?"

Yan Qi replied, "I′m not trying to do anything. I just wanted a pce to hide."

Guo Dalu asked, "Why do you need to hide?"

Yan Qi said, "Because someone wants to nail me inside a coffin and bury me underground again."

Guo Dalu asked, "Who is it this time?"

  Yan Qi said, "Mayis."

  (T/N: 蚂蚁; Mǎyǐ, means Ant)

Guo Dalu′s mouth fell open, almost dropping his jaw. "What... what did you say?"

Yan Qi repeated, "I said Mayis."

  Guo Dalu said, "Mayis...?"

He suddenly doubled over ughing, gasping for breath. "If you′re even scared of mayis, your courage must be something else."

Yan Qi sighed and shook his head. "It seems you′ve never truly been part of the martial world. You don′t even know what ‘Mayis’ are."

Guo Dalu said, "I′ve known what mayis are since I was three years old."

Yan Qi asked, "What are they?"

Guo Dalu said, "They′re tiny little bugs that crawl around on the ground. There are plenty of them on Wang Dong′s bed. I can catch a few for you to see anytime."

Yan Qi said, "I′m not talking about that kind of mayi. I′m talking about people."

Guo Dalu was stunned. "People? Mayis are people?"

Yan Qi expined, "Four people. These four are the Mayi King, and they have many little Mayi under them."

  Guo Dalu said, "Oh?"

Yan Qi continued, "These four are called Jin Mayi, Yin Mayi, Hong Mayi, and Bai Maiyi."

(T/N: 金蚂蚁; Jīn Mǎyǐ is Golden Ant; 银蚂蚁; Yín Mǎyǐ is Silver Ant; 红蚂蚁; Hóng Mǎyǐ is Red Ant; 白蚂蚁; Bái Mǎyǐ is White Ant, 黑蚂蚁; Hēi Mǎyǐ is Bck Ant)

Guo Dalu couldn′t help but ugh. "If there′s a Hong Mayi and a Bai Maiyi, there should be a Hei Maiyi too, right?"

Yan Qi said, "There used to be one, but now he′s dead."

Guo Dalu blinks. "If they′re clearly people, why are they called Mayis?"

Yan Qi said, "Many people have nicknames."

Guo Dalu said, "If you're going to pick a nickname, at least choose something grand and imposing, like 'Fei Hu' or 'Jin Shi.' Any nickname would do, so why call yourself 'Xiao Mayi'?"

(T/N: 飞虎; Fēi Hǔ; Fliying Tiger; 金狮; Jīn Shī, Golden Lion; 小蚂蚁; Xiǎo Mǎyǐ, Litte Ant)

Yan Qi replied, "Because they're all very small, they're all dwarfs."

The more Guo Dalu listened, the less sense it made, but he still held back his ughter and asked, "What's so scary about dwarfs?"

Yan Qi said, "These dwarfs aren't just scary; they're extremely scary. There probably aren't many people in the world more terrifying than them."

Guo Dalu asked, "Oh? Do they have great abilities?"

Yan Qi replied, "Each of them has a very special skill. Even the top expert of the Emei Sect has already died at their hands."

Guo Dalu said, "If they're that terrifying, why did you go provoke them?"

Yan Qi sighed and said, "Because I've been broke recently and had bad luck. In the past half month, I've lost fifteen times in a row. I even had to sell the soles of my boots to pay off gambling debts."
