Elemental – Chapter 12 – Delayed

The kids gather up some money to give to Seth for gas, thirty dolrs in total. A little bit out of each others allowance. Chris puts the note with the address in his back pocket. Jackson wonders what else they’ll need. Elle grabs a fshlight, in case they need to sneak or something. It is night out.Knock, knock! Elle skips over and opens the door, greeting Seth and welcoming him in. Seth was a tall guy, probably the same as Chris’ dad. Maybe an inch or so shorter. He has bck hair down to his shoulders. Brown eyes from what Chris could tell. And it was clear that he worked out and practiced martial arts by his physique. Not overly muscur, but built enough that he wasn’t one to mess with.“You must be Mr. Talvert’s son. Pleased to meet you.” Seth offers his hand. Chris shakes it happily. “Pleased to meet you too.”“Okay guys, I was thinking on the way over here. What exactly is wrong? Fill me in.”The gang expin the situation with the suit guys and the bck car. As well as the limo incident. Chris then pulls out the note. Seth reads it.“Wow. Yeah I would say that your parents are in trouble. But Simon could have fought them off. Surely.” “We don’t know what happened. Chris’ dad is stronger than Chris, so…” Jackson shrugs. “They must have been drugged or something.”“And what’s this about? ‘See you soon, pumpkin. My darling Elle.’?”Elle lowers her head a bit.“I say it’s just a way to get us there.” Jerry tells them. “What if it is your real father?” Seth asks.Elle opens her mouth but takes a moment. “Then he has a lot of expining to do.” She then huffs, making her point.“Okay then. If everyone is ready let’s head out.”The gang loved the sound of that. Jerry even hollering ‘ninja time’ and getting smacked by Elle. They were off. Once loaded up in Seth’s SUV, Chris hands him the money they gathered for gas.He holds up his hands and shakes his head. “I filled up on the way here. We’ll get something to eat and drink on the way there. Unless you guys have eaten already?”Chris had forgotten about supper. He was hungry. “I’m hungry. You guys?” No one objected to something to eat. They stop by a fats food pce before heading onto the interstate.“So guys, any idea how this came about?” Seth asks while they wait in line after ordering their food.Chris sinks a bit in his seat. “Well, I…may have done something to get the suit guys here.”“No! Don’t say that Chris.” Elle tells him. “We all did something to the suit guys, for them to do this.” “But I got Rex taken away, remember.” Chris hated to admit it, but this may very well have been his fault. “I think I started all of this.”Elle hugs him. “Then we’ll help you get out of it.”“That’s right, man! We got your back.” Jackson tells him.“An if there is some decent action in it, you can count me in too.” Seth gives them a thumbs up.Chris has to smile. He’s made some good friends and couldn’t be happier. * * * * * Larry wakes up with a mild headache. Worse then the one he had st time. He sits up with a start. One thing was for sure, he wasn’t bound anymore. The room he was in was pin. Smelled a bit like a hospital too. Off white colored walls, made from concrete blocks. The floor was a grey color made of simir material. He was sitting on a basic bed, like one would see in a prison. Prison? Prison might be better, Larry thinks, recalling the st thing he remembered. Ariel? Chris? He looks around, but they were nowhere to be found. The room was obviously built for one. One bed, one sink, one toilet. But more importantly, one door. He walks to the door with intent. It had no door knob, but it did have a small rectangle window at about head height. He bangs on the door. “Hello?!” He bangs a couple more times. The click of a speaker sounds. “Ah, I see you’re awake, Mr. Talvert.” Larry’s not sure where the voice is coming from, he doesn’t see a speaker anywhere, inside the walls maybe? “Where am I? Where is my wife and son?”“Don’t fret Mr. Talvert. Your wife is sleeping in the next room and your son, I hear, is on his way here with Mr. Prowman’s children. And…it would seem, someone else. Someone I was not expecting, but not someone I can’t use.”“Who is it?” Larry had to know. It couldn’t be the police, the kids would know better than that. “I believe his name is Seth Lockwood. One of Mr. Prowman’s acquaintances I believe. He could prove beneficial.”Larry’s mind was running on overdrive. He was confused, pissed off, and had more questions than he’s ever had about anything. Who was this Director? Who did he work for? What kind of research did he do? Larry begins pacing the room, running his hands through his hair.“Tell me one thing.” Larry asks. “Who are you and what do you want from us?” The Director lets out a hum. “I think it best if we wait until the whole family is here. I would say, tomorrow morning. Until then.”“Wait…!” Larry shouts, but the speaker clicks again. Obviously ending their conversation.Larry drops down onto the bed, he rests his elbows on his knees. He runs his hands over his face, remembering what Axus had said about this world and people with powers. He couldn’t understand how they would have been caught. Unless the kids did something? He shakes his head. Great. Someone’s getting a lecture soon. * * * * * Seth’s SUV motors along the freeway when a series of colored fshing lights turn on behind them. Damn, cops.“You speeding?” Jerry asks.“No. I had cruise control on. Set to the speed limit. So we wouldn’t get pulled over.” Seth says as he pulls over. He sighs loudly. “Sorry guys, didn’t expect this.” Chris sighs. Great, pulled over for what…broken tail light? The officer gets out of the cruiser with a fshlight. Though Chris could barely tell, a light on the side of the cruiser was making it hard to see. The cop runs the fshlight over the length of Seth‘s SUV. Chris and the others moan and gripe when the light catches their eyes. The cop comes up to Seth‘s window. “Good evening. License and registration please.” The cop asks Seth. Seth reaches over to the glove compartment and takes out his registration then reaches into the middle console for his wallet and license. All the while the cop was following his actions with his light.“Can I ask why you pulled us over officer?” Seth asks as he hands him his credentials. The cop looks over the license and registration then fshes the kids again with the light. “How long have you been in New York?”“About a week and a half now.” Seth tells him.The cop looks at Chris and the gang again. That was getting annoying. “I’ll be right back, sir.” The officer says and returns to his car.Seth huffs. “Typical statey.” Elle takes Chris hand, saying she has a bad feeling about this. Chris pulls her close and wraps an arm around her.“Dude, we could make a run for it.” Jerry says, excitedly. Which was never good. “Seth you can blind them with some shadow stuff while we do our thing.”“Yeah, and if it fails? We’re worse than dead.” Jackson tells him. “Try permanently grounded.” Chris says.“Let’s just py it cool for now guys.” Seth tells them. The officer seems to be taking a long time, Chris thinks. He looks back occasionally, but the bright light he has mounted of side of his car is too bright to see anything. As they wait, two more vehicles pull up in front of the SUV, a state trooper vehicle and an unmarked car with a red fshing thing in the dash. They block in Seth’s SUV, preventing any escape.“What the hell?” Seth says. He shifts in his seat. Obviously uneasy. The previous cop comes up and asks for him to step out of the car. His hand on his gun. “Shit.” Jerry excims.Seth gets out of the car, voicing his confusion. The policemen take him by the arms and lead him over to the cruiser in front. The push him down on the hood and cuff his hands behind him.“You have the right to remain silent.” Officer one tells him as he puts Seth’s hands in hand cuffs. “What?” Chris yells. He moves up to the drivers window. “What’s goin’ on?”“Why are you arresting him?!” Elle yells out the window.“He didn’t do anything!” Jackson shouts. One of the officers from the unmarked car come up to the passenger side window. A woman. “Okay kids. Everything is all right. I‘m Detective Lynis.” “No it isn’t all right.” Jackson says. “Where you taking him?”The detective puts her hands up. “Now kids. I need you to calm down and come with me.” She opens the door. Two officers come up behind her.The kids all just give each other a shocked, confused look. The female officer opens the door and tells them to get out, be it against protest. But they obey and exit the SUV. Chris looks back at the first cruiser with Seth sitting in the back. A look of utter confusion, with a touch of anger, on his face. A hand leads Chris to the second cruiser where they are escorted into the back. Elle holds Chris tight, the look on her face says everything. Someone is thoroughly trying to piss them off. Not to mention, break their very will. At least that‘s what Chris can get out of this mess.. Elle stops as they reach the side of the detectives car. “Please, why are you doing this? Seth hasn‘t done anything wrong.”“We’ll expin everything once we get to the police station.” Detective Lynis tells her.Chris can only imagine what that could be. Everyone grumbles and gripes as they pull away. Chris gives a look back at the other cop car. It soon pulls away as well. Hopefully, Seth ends up at the same precinct as them. Maybe making a run for it, like Jerry mentioned earlier, wouldn’t have worked, but they were gonna try something now. These cops can count on it.
