Chapter 20: Plans for the Future

Chapter 20: Pns for the Future ??

After taking a short walk with Lily and seeing her home, Ray returned to his pce, showered, and once again took his pills. These medications were one of the reasons for his obesity. The head trauma he'd sustained before birth caused horrific headaches. The doctors said that over time, new consequences of the injury could manifest. The very fact that he had survived and hadn't become a vegetable could be considered a miracle.

When he came down to the kitchen, he caught his mother's mischievous gaze; she had returned home from her part-time job. Thanks to Ray starting to work, the burden on Amy had significantly decreased. It was the joint efforts of this pair that had allowed them to renovate the house.

Catching his mother's curious look and realizing he wouldn't be able to escape, the boy sighed heavily and went to make tea.

When they sat down at the table, Amy pyfully asked how it had gone and when she should expect grandchildren. Hearing his mother's teasing words, Ray rolled his eyes and said:

"You want your future daughter-in-w to end up in prison that badly?"

Despite her son's joking tone, Amy easily understood that something was bothering him, and that made her become serious. Despite the constant fear, Ray and Amy's life was full of mutual teasing. It was their way of distracting themselves from harsh reality. This approach to life had made them not just mother and son, but very close friends. So this was one of those rare cases where there truly were no secrets between parent and child.

"Lily's sister is sick; she needs a heart transpnt. Plus, her great-grandmother also has heart problems and needs expensive medication. As soon as break ends, I'm pnning to finish school early so I can work more. I have a good retionship with the principal, so I don't think there'll be any problems."

Amy didn't argue. Instead, she looked into her son's eyes and said:

"Now I want even more to meet the girl who has such an influence on you. Either you have very bad taste—which is unlikely, since you're still my son—or she really is that good. As for her family, we'll do everything we can to help."

"I do have good taste, but that's definitely not your doing. I think it's one of the few good things I got from that bastard, since he managed to nd a beauty like you," Ray said with pyfulness and notes of sincerity.

Hearing her son's words, Amy smirked and said:

"If my future daughter-in-w really is that good, I'm sure one of the reasons she noticed you was your silver tongue and ability to ftter. In that, you're far better than your father."

"Not without that, but the secret to any fttery is to have a rge dose of sincerity in it. Then any fttery becomes a sincere compliment. Besides, I'm far from handsome, so to even have a chance of giving you grandchildren, I need to put in a lot more effort."

Spending a little more time on mutual teasing, Ray and Amy headed off to sleep.
