Evelyn was drained. What had once been a nightly ritual carried out with focus and hope had slipped into an obsession. Every night she desperately tried to reach Ley.
Aside from the occasional errand in town and the hours she forced herself to spend revising her manuscript before deadline, every free moment was swallowed by meditation, her stubborn attempt to connect with her daughter.
Over time, even the neighbors had stopped coming by. Only Pina still showed up each morning for a quick hello before leaving Evelyn to her silence. The rest had slipped back into their routines, as if Evelyn’s grief had become nothing more than background noise, an old chapter closed.
But for her there was no reprieve. There couldn’t be, not while Ley remained far away, a prisoner in some pce no one seemed able to unravel.
She felt grateful that her daughter had woken, but to her it was only a fragile starting point. She didn’t know where to turn. She had scoured the internet, even considered reaching out to psychics or practitioners of magic, but the fear of running into frauds was too strong. I can’t let her life be put at risk, she thought, clenching her fists until her knuckles turned white.
She had tried every technique she knew, pushing her gift beyond its limit. And still, Ley’s progress in recovering her memory was barely noticeable, too faint to enable a true telepathic connection.
She saw no way out. No escape.
Despair had become a constant presence. And in that void, a reckless, dangerous idea began to take root: breaking one of the oldest rules of her bloodline.
No woman in her lineage had ever dared such defiance.
Evelyn was considering summoning her mother’s spirit, Ley’s grandmother.
She knew the tradition, passed down through generations of women, strictly forbade any attempt to contact the dead through their powers. Spontaneous visions were accepted, inevitable even, but intentional communication was forbidden.
She didn’t know the full scope of the consequences, but her mother’s words rang crystal clear in her mind: “Never try to establish a telepathic link with me, or with anyone else, after death. The consequences could be irreversible.”
By now, nothing could stop her. The need to bring Ley back into the light had grown stronger than fear. Stronger than any w, even the most sacred w.
Evelyn was swept away the moment those simple, powerful words echoed in her mind, like a voice carried across time itself:
HER MOTHER’S VOICE
Hello, my dear Evelyn.
Tears streamed down her face. With her eyes half-closed and her heart clenched tight, Evelyn sank deeper into meditation. The telepathic link with her mother began to take shape, like an invisible thread stretched beyond the borders of life itself.
EVELYN (her voice trembling)
Mom… God, it’s unbelievable to hear your voice again. I miss you so much! Forgive me for breaking tradition… but if there are consequences, let them fall on me. I’m ready to pay any price. I’m falling apart. I desperately need your help…
HER MOTHER’S VOICE
Evelyn, you don’t need to apologize. I did everything I could to protect you. I prayed we’d never come to this… But it’s too te to turn back now. You’ve taken on a mission that has waited more than a thousand years. And with it comes a heavy burden. The risks are just as great.
Her mother’s words overflowed with love, yet carried a stern weight that sent a shiver down Evelyn’s spine. Deep down, she knew no amount of pleading could keep this fragile connection from slipping away. Time was short, and every word mattered.
HER MOTHER’S VOICE
I understand your pain, my daughter. But never doubt me. Even when you can’t hear my voice, I am with you. With Ley. The boundaries of the pce I’m in cannot be crossed, but I never stop guiding you, even from the shadows. Ley is trapped in a condition so tangled it’s hard to break free of… but you, Evelyn, can do far more than you believe.
Tears rolled from Evelyn’s eyes, her sobs echoing through the room. She had never felt so alone, so fragile.
EVELYN (her voice breaking)
How can you say that? I’ve done everything I could. Please… I’m begging you… don’t leave me alone. I’m not strong enough. Ley needs you! I need you!
HER MOTHER’S VOICE
Listen to me, my love. I don’t have much time. From where I stand, I can see it clearly: your gift is far stronger than you imagine. Trust it. You can do so much more. Now, listen carefully to what I’m about to tell you. Don’t interrupt. Even if you don’t understand it all right away, the time will come when everything will fall into pce.
A tiny spark flickered inside Evelyn. A fragile seed of hope, but alive.
EVELYN (with renewed determination)
I’m listening, Mom. I swear I’ll do everything you ask.
HER MOTHER’S VOICE
There are pces on Earth infused with ancient and mysterious energy, hidden from the understanding of most people. You must travel to one of these pces called the Isnd of the Moon. It lies only a few hours by boat from the port of Saleen. There, seek out an old man named Sean and his wife, Brenda. They are living guardians of an ancient prophecy. For a long time, they’ve been waiting for a woman who, on the night of a full moon, would ask to be taken to the isnd.
In the year 1000, the Isnd of the Moon was raided and left in ruins, but thanks to a prophecy, its people managed to hide a moonstone pendant, an artifact that holds arcane power. The pendant is protected by an enchantment. Only the one who can wield its power for the good of humankind will find it… and that one is you.
Leave tomorrow. You’ll have just enough time to seek out the descendants who keep this secret. If they recognize you as the one they’ve been waiting for, they’ll help you carry out the mission and reveal the rest of the prophecy. In three days, the full moon will rise.
Hurry, and have faith. Endure the trials, cim the pendant, and you’ll gain immense power… and with it, the chance to reach Ley. Farewell, my daughter.
Her mother’s final words rang with both tenderness and solemn gravity, but they did nothing to quiet the storm raging inside Evelyn.
A thousand questions swirled through her mind.
What the hell am I supposed to do on the isnd? How am I even supposed to find Sean and Brenda? What dangers are out there waiting for me? And if I fail… what happens to Ley?
But no answer came.
The connection had already faded, leaving Evelyn alone with only the echo of a destiny she could no longer escape.
