Chapter 78: The Vacuum of Silence

?Location: The Vault of Thousand Weapons – The Central Corridor

  Time: During the Heist

  ?Sixty seconds.

?That was the duration of the gap between heartbeats provided by the modified Stasis Pill.

?Aris and Mo were moving back down the central aisle, the black sphere of the Gravity Well securely in Aris's inventory. The bronze exit doors were only fifty meters away.

?But sitting directly in their path was Elder Steel-Soul.

?The blind guardian hadn't moved. His rusted sword lay across his knees. The distant vibrations from the Puppet Sect's assault on the prison above ground were masking the minuscule displacement of air caused by the thieves.

  ?They reached the ten-meter mark.

?Aris checked his internal System clock.

?[Stasis Pill Effect: 5 seconds remaining until next cardiac contraction.]

?He signaled Mo to move faster. The Void-Walker boots made no sound against the stone, but they still had to avoid the invisible tripwires of Qi that Steel-Soul passively radiated.

  ?[4 seconds.]

?They were parallel to the Elder. Five meters to his left.

  ?[3 seconds.]

?Aris could see the dust settling on the Elder's bandaged eyes. He looked like a corpse.

  ?[2 seconds.]

?They passed him. They were now between the Elder and the exit.

  ?[1 second.]

?Suddenly, the rumbling from the prison above stopped. The Puppet Sect had breached the inner sanctum; the heavy explosives were done. The mountain fell deathly silent.

  ?[0 seconds.]

  ?THUMP.

  ?Aris's heart beat.

?In the absolute silence of the Vault, to a Dao Severing expert whose entire cultivation was based on acoustic perception, that single heartbeat sounded like a war drum.

?Elder Steel-Soul's head snapped toward the sound.

?"Who is there?" the Elder's voice was like grinding metal.

?He didn't hesitate. He didn't ask twice. The rusted sword vanished from his lap.

  ?SHING.

?A wave of concentrated sound-blade—a technique that vibrated the air so fast it cut like physical steel—slashed across the corridor, aimed precisely at the origin of the heartbeat.

?Aris's eyes widened. He couldn't dodge. Moving quickly would create wind resistance, giving the Elder a perfect outline of his body. He couldn't block with Qi, or his signature would be exposed.

  ?I have to cheat.

?Aris reached into his inventory. He didn't pull out a weapon. He linked his System directly to the newly acquired Key Fragment #5 (The Gravity Well).

  ?[Law Manipulation: Gravimetric Distortion]

[Target: Atmosphere (Radius: 2 Meters around Elder Steel-Soul).]

  [Effect: Absolute Vacuum.]

?Gravity isn't just about weight; it dictates the density of matter. Aris used the Gravity Well to pull all the air molecules away from the Elder, creating a perfect, two-meter sphere of absolute vacuum around the old man's head.

?Sound cannot travel in a vacuum.

?The sonic blade the Elder had launched hit the edge of the vacuum sphere and dissipated instantly, lacking a medium to travel through.

  ?Elder Steel-Soul froze.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

?His world of supreme hearing suddenly ceased to exist. Total sensory deprivation hit him like a physical blow. He stood up, swinging his sword blindly, his mouth opening to shout, but no sound came out.

?"Go!" Aris projected telepathically to Mo.

?They sprinted. The Void-Walker boots absorbed their footfalls.

?By the time Elder Steel-Soul channeled his Qi to forcibly collapse the vacuum bubble, crushing the gravity distortion through sheer brute force, three seconds had passed.

?The air rushed back in with a loud POP.

?Steel-Soul panted, sweeping his perception across the Vault.

  ?Nothing. The Vault was empty.

?He walked over to the Forbidden Zone. He 'looked' at the pedestal. The black sphere was sitting there, exactly as it should be (thanks to Aris's painted bowling ball). He scanned the perimeter. The Nine-Lock Heaven Seal was intact.

?"A phantom..." Steel-Soul muttered, sheathing his sword. "The vibrations from the prison battle disrupted my domain. There are no intruders."

?He sat back down, unaware that the most powerful artifact in the Sect's history was currently jogging toward the exit.

?Location: Core Disciple Villa #1 – The Basement

  Time: Midnight

?Aris and Mo stripped off the Null-Suits. They were drenched in cold sweat.

?Aris leaned against the workbench, breathing heavily. The Stasis Pill was wearing off, and his heart was racing to catch up, hammering against his ribs.

?"That," Mo said, his iron mask giving nothing away, but his voice tight, "was too close. If he had swung a second time..."

?"He didn't," Aris coughed, pouring a cup of water. "Calculated risks, Mo. The Vault is secure. The decoy is in place. It will take them months to realize the Gravity Well is a fake, and by then, we'll be long gone."

?Aris pulled the black metal sphere out of his inventory.

?It was heavy. Unnaturally heavy. It distorted the light around it, making the air look wavy.

?[Item: Void Key Fragment #5 (The Gravity Well).]

  [Status: Offline. Requires System Integration.]

  ?"Integrate it," Aris commanded.

?The sphere dissolved into a stream of black liquid light, shooting into Aris's chest.

  ?[System Update...]

  [Gravimetric Control Unlocked.]

[New Skill Acquired: The Sovereign's Weight.]

[Effect: The Host can manipulate local gravity fields up to 100x standard gravity. Can be used for flight, crushing attacks, or creating localized black-hole defenses.]

?Aris smiled. He raised his hand. The teacup on the table floated into the air. He flipped his hand over. The teacup slammed into the ceiling and shattered into dust.

  ?"Excellent," Aris noted.

?Suddenly, the Communication Talisman in his pocket began to vibrate aggressively. It was glowing red.

  ?"The Puppets," Mo noted.

?Aris put on his modulator mask. He pressed the rune to accept the call.

?"VEX!" The synthesized roar of the Grand Mechanic nearly blew out the talisman's speaker. "YOU LIED! THERE IS NO TITAN WARHEAD IN THE PRISON!"

?"Calm down, spark-plug," Aris said smoothly, projecting the persona of a bored, arrogant smuggler. "I gave you the coordinates. Did you breach Sub-Level 4?"

?"We breached it! We lost three Adamantine War-Puppets to the prison guards! Sub-Level 4 was empty! It was a holding cell for a Demonic Beast, not a weapon!"

?"Then they moved it," Aris lied without missing a beat. "Look at the Sect right now. Listen to the panic. Do you really think they would leave their ultimate weapon in the prison when they knew you were at war with them? They panic-moved it to the Elder's Peak."

?There was a burst of static as the Grand Mechanic processed this. It made twisted logical sense.

?"They moved it..." the cyborg growled. "We saw the Elders swarming the mountain. They were protecting the transport."

?"Exactly," Aris nodded to Mo, grinning. "You missed your window. But the chaos you caused? Beautiful. You proved that the Myriad Beasts Sect is vulnerable. Their 'invincible' mountain was breached by three metal men."

?"We will return," the Grand Mechanic vowed. "And when we do, we will level that mountain to find the weapon."

  ?The line went dead.

?Aris tossed the talisman onto the table.

?"They bought it," Aris laughed softly. "The Puppet Sect is now obsessed with a weapon that doesn't exist, and the Earth Sect is obsessed with a murder that was a misunderstanding. Sector 12 and Sector 33 are going to annihilate each other."

  ?"And us?" Mo asked.

?"We play the good disciples," Aris said, walking up the stairs to the master bedroom. "Tomorrow, Han Xiao is going to complain to the Elders that the noise from the prison kept him awake. We have to maintain the illusion of mediocrity."

?Location: The Sect Leader's Pavilion (The Peak of the World)

  Time: The Next Morning

?The Sect Leader, Qin Tian, stood on a balcony made of solid cloud, overlooking the mountain. He was a man who looked thirty but had lived for three thousand years.

?Behind him knelt Elder Iron-Fist and Elder Razor-Wind.

?"A breach," the Sect Leader said softly. His voice wasn't loud, but it resonated in the souls of the Elders. "The Puppet Sect attacked our prison. They killed six guards and escaped."

?"My Lord," Iron-Fist bowed lower. "They are retaliating for the skirmish in Sector 12. I request permission to take the full Armada and wipe Gear-Heart Station from the star map."

?"Permission granted," Qin Tian waved a hand dismissively. "Burn them. But... there is another matter."

?The Sect Leader turned around. His eyes were pools of swirling silver light.

?"The Tower of Ten Thousand Beasts. Someone accessed the Administrator protocols last night. For a fraction of a second, the Tower's core code was altered."

  ?Razor-Wind frowned. "Altered? A glitch?"

?"Perhaps," the Sect Leader mused. "But it coincided with the rise of our newest Core Disciple. Han Xiao."

?Iron-Fist sneered. "That idiot? He head-butted the door to Floor 100. He is a coward and a fool."

?"Fools do not jump from Level 25 to 45 by eating a single leaf without exploding," the Sect Leader said coldly. "And fools do not survive the Star-Metal Graveyard when elite Earth disciples die."

?The Sect Leader walked past them.

?"Keep an eye on him. If he is truly a fool, he will hang himself with his own luck. If he is hiding something... the Monthly Sect Tournament is next week. Put him in the ring with a true genius. Let us see if his 'luck' holds against absolute power."

  ?

?Wiki Update - Sect Leader Qin Tian:

  ?Level: 99 (Half-Step to True Immortal). ?

Threat: Extreme. He is one of the few beings in the Middle Realm who understands the concept of the "Ark" and Old Era technology. He cannot be fooled by cheap parlor tricks. Aris must rely on pure System dominance if a confrontation occurs.
