Chapter 20 – The Secret

?Oh, dear. Then I'd say we have an agreement.? Nezu said, amusedly ?Now all we have to do is define and finalise the details.?

?Principal Nezu? Tsukakuchi called him ?You heard the situation too-?

?Your concern is appreciated, Tsukakuchi-san. But don't worry about that, leave it to me, the principal of UA. Hahahaha!?

Nezu's statement was enough to silence the detective. The ughter, much more defined and joyful than usual, sent shivers down the backs of those present. Many other people not present also suddenly began to beg for mercy, regardless of what they were doing.

?Now tell me what you propose, Principal Nezu.? Izuku said, clearly unaffected by the principal's ughter.

?As you have already stated, Midoriya-san, you are certainly a living library of knowledge and experience. I'm not even mentioning your fighting ability: elegant, lethal and extremely fast. I had to slow down the video many times, but even then, you were incredibly fast? Nezu said joyfully. ?Given all this, I wouldn't mind hiring you as a teacher.?

Izuku began massaging his chin, seeing merit in the principal's analysis and proposition; however, there was one detail the principal hadn't considered or deliberately ignored, which made him chuckle.

I think it's the second option.

  ?I don't think it's a possible role for me.?

  ?Why?? Yagi asked, clearly intrigued

?A legal reason, Yagi-san. Biologically, I am 2548 years old, but legally, I would be 16. For the Japanese administrative system, I would still be a minor.?

Upon the statement, Yagi coughed up blood at the revetion, while Tsukakuchi and Inko shook their heads, resigned. After all, those present, except for a certain chimaera, were stuck on his venerable biological age, without taking into account that, when he disappeared, he was 6 years old and that 10 years have passed in this universe.

?If you want the police to investigate you for child exploitation, I won't stop you. But I would ask you to avoid certain jokes, Nezu-dono.?

?You found me out.? he said, amused by the reaction of those present ?I will immediately begin the procedures to accept her as a 'transfer student' in Css 1A. I'm sure it will be an interesting 3 years.?

?Very likely.? Izuku said, amused ?Especially for me, since despite all the knowledge I have, I haven't had a real school life.?

In the 41st millennium, the only existing school in the Imperium is the Scho Progenium. Children of high social standing, children or orphans of decorated soldiers are taken in here. They are trained to become high-ranking officers, could be pced in the Militarum Tempestus or the Adepta Sororitas. The teachings are brutal, spartan, and highly competitive. The system is designed to forge an inflexible will.

Even though Izuku knows the Scho's methods, he received a much more… focused education. Adeptus Custodes aspirants receive an education with standards even higher than those of the Scho Progenium. A Custodian is expected to learn and master diplomacy, political skill, space navigation, interstelr geography, history, philosophy, art, theosophy, manual skills, and countless other disciplines. This incredible elitist standard stems from the fact that the Emperor once relied on his bodyguards' advice and, consequently, they must be prepared in every area. But, more importantly, to ensure that the Adeptus Custodes preserves notions and ideas dating back to the time of the Great Crusade.

Simply put, Izuku sighed, I didn't go to a regur school to learn all this.

?Then I would say we agree.? Principal Nezu said cheerfully.

?I'd say so,? Izuku replied, then turned to the detective. ?Tsukakuchi-san, may I ask you for the pleasure of accompanying my mother home??"

  ?Sure, but-?

?Izuku, aren't you coming?!? asked her mother in arm when she saw that the discussion had ended

?I'd like to tell you I'd join you, but as I already told you, I doubt I'd be able to get into the house.? he said kindly ?So, in the meantime, go home and get ready to move tomorrow, Mom. In the meantime, I have to privately outline some details with Nezu-dono and write a report to deliver to Tsukakuchi-san.?

?...*Sigh* All right.? his mother sighed. ?But, no headshots, are we clear?? she made sure by getting up from the couch.

?Sure, Mom.? he chuckled ?I'm not going anywhere.?

?If that's the case, then I'll take my-? Yagi began by getting up.

?You’ll stay too, Yagi-san.? Izuku stopped him ?I'm sure you might be interested.?

Toshinori Yagi stopped when he was called, not knowing what might interest him. However, for some reason, he didn't feel comfortable with that statement, and his instincts screamed at him to pay attention… a lot of attention.

Once her mother and the detective left, Izuku counted to ten before speaking. Looking back at the two remaining people, he noticed that the principal was calmly waiting, staring at him with those intelligent, marble-like eyes, while Yagi was slightly tense.

?I'll get straight to the point.? Izuku said, then focused on Yagi ?What happened to her to reduce her to that state… All-Might??

The silence of the room became heavier and more suffocating. Yagi shivered slightly and began sweating, as well as having another violent coughing fit.

  ?I don't know what-?

?I already told you there's no point in lying to me, Toshinori Yagi, aka All-Might.? Izuku sighed, staring at him ?Because of my duty, I've become very sensitive to people's details. While there are clear differences in size, muscles and hairstyle, your face is too simir, and the clothes are too big for you. If needed, I can add more.?

?Hohoho.? Nezu ughed amusedly, starting to make himself a cup of tea ?Truly incredible, it took her so little to discover All-Might's true identity. I'd say there's no point in hiding it now.?

?I'm more surprised by your reaction, Principal Nezu.? Izuku calmly stated ?I suspected you were also aware of his true identity. I believed you would forcefully deny it to protect him.?

?Would it have changed something?? asked the principal

The principal's eyes conveyed to Izuku what he didn't say. Nezu is fully aware that the giant in front of him, despite being Quirkless, possesses an intellectual capacity that could match, and perhaps surpass, his own. While he doubts it, Nezu doesn't rule out the possibility that his Quirk, High Spec, might not help him against someone like Izuku.

?No. Actually, none.? Izuku chuckled ?Anyway, I'm not going to tell your secret, Yagi-san, because, from a strategic and tactical point of view, it would be disadvantageous: that group of Vilins were interested in your life. However, I would like to know what happened, since you were the trigger for today's accident.? he concluded, accepting Nezu's cup of tea.

The cup of tea was clearly too small for his hand, but Izuku didn't pay much attention to it, since he had accepted the cup out of pure courtesy.

?…...Okay.? Yagi said after a long pause

Yagi raised his shirt, and Izuku saw it: a horrible scar on the left chest, shaped like an exploded bullet.

Yagi told him that the injury was caused by a Vilin 6 years ago. The attack destroyed part of his respiratory system, completely removed his stomach, and he had to undergo eye surgery. Since then, he can no longer continue his Hero career indefinitely: now, he can only maintain his All-Might form for three hours a day.

I understand. So that's why he chose to be a teacher? No…

?There's more, isn't there?? he asked.

  ?…...?

?…*Sigh* From what I can remember…? Izuku began, after taking a deep sigh ?you were never the kind of person- no, the kind of hero who would be stopped by something like that. I am sure you would have continued to carry out your duties. I doubt you would have limited yourself to teaching duty because of an injury, and certainly not after 6 years. In conclusion, you are looking for an heir to your ideals… or a repcement...?

Yagi's reaction is even more disheartened. He rubs his hands, sweats more, and his heart beats faster. All this speaks volumes for Izuku, who drinks the tea in one gulp. As I supposed. Now, let's try to understand how advanced his research is.

?In fact, maybe you’ve already found it.? Izuku said dryly.

At that statement, Yagi's body shivered, and his heart beat to the point that, if he did not calm down, Izuku was certain that the heart would carve a way out of the wounded Hero's chest on its own.

?Hou. So you’ve already found it.? he said, interestedly. ?Even though things are getting interesting, I think it's time to stop here, since I don't know why you looked for this heir, repcement, or whatever you want to call it. But if you ever want to share a reason, I'm willing to listen.?

  ?…...Thank you for your understanding.?

?No problem.? Izuku stated, gently pcing his cup of tea on the coffee table between the sofas ?Now, Principal Nezu, I would need a secluded spot wide enough to hold my person, as well as several papers and a pen to write the report for the detective. Oh, and yes, you can make a couple of copies if you’re interested.?

?Oh, dear. I definitely will.? the principal said cheerfully. ?Please follow me.?

Both Izuku and Nezu left the office. Shortly after leaving the door, Izuku stopped.

?Yagi-san.?Izuku called, turning to the man, drawing his gaze ?I am not a threat to you, and I am not only willing to listen to you if you want to talk to me about it, but also to help you if you feel it is necessary.?"

  ?...Why would you do that??

?Why?? he asked, amusedly ?I've been a fan of yours since I was 4 years old, and in the two and a half millennia I spent in that dark age, my mother was the anchor that kept me coming home. But you, All-Might, I theorise, were my moral anchor, allowing me to maintain my humanity. Or at least, that's my theory.?
