I left my web and then stepped out of my hole. Carefully, I looked at the humans as they moved farther away. I could see their backs.
'That's quite a rge group,' I thought.
They were all equipped with iron armor. I doubt my fangs can pierce that.
'Should I really follow them?'
Honestly, I'm curious because of the map. That man said he has a map.
After living here for some time, I've managed to get a decent sense of direction, but I still don't know where the exit is or how the byrinth's overall structure works. Even when I try to remember any artwork or maps I might have seen in my previous world, I can't recall anything.
'Urgghh…'
Still worried that something might go wrong, I began following the men.
I followed the light.
Even with "Night Vision," I can clearly locate the glow of their torches. I kept trailing them from about ten meters away, hiding along the byrinth walls.
They didn't notice my presence and continued fighting the small monsters that appeared.
From the way they acted, they didn't seem very experienced at this.
They look weak.
The only one who seemed experienced was an older man who could use fire magic to kill his enemies. However, that was the only type of magic he appeared to use.
'I need to be careful with him. My body is sensitive to fire.'
If he nds a direct magical hit on me without my defense being edited, I'll die.
A few more minutes passed, and the men stopped walking.
The muscur man holding the map said, "I think it's this way. The Finjicote nest should be right here."
Finjicotes? I'm sure I've heard that name before.
Then I remembered. They're those wasp-like monsters!
'Wait, these guys are going after a nest of those things? Are they idiots?' Their group looks far too weak!
If there's a rge number of Finjicotes in that nest, these guys are dead!
'Wait… that must be why they brought an "experienced" fire mage.'
Feeling excited to watch a fight between weak-looking humans and giant wasps, I moved closer and closer as they prepared for battle. There were ten of them in total.
Three members wielded swords, three used spears, three carried bows, and one used magic.
I'm not sure if that's a well-banced party.
They moved forward and entered an area of the byrinth I had never explored before.
'The nest must be there!'
With all my eyes shining, I moved my eight legs quickly and ran at high speed.
'I can't miss a single second of this fight! It'll be great entertainment.'
Or so I thought…
####
The humans entered a slightly wider chamber. They didn't have a proper formation. There was even an archer standing on the front line.
I stayed at the entrance of the room, watching everything.
Of course, I kept an eye on my surroundings to avoid a surprise attack.
"It's up there," the man with the map said, looking toward the ceiling.
I looked up as well.
All my eyes widened.
'They're going to fight that?'
I thought they were talking about a small nest, but isn't that way too big?
It was an enormous nest, with multiple entrances for the Finjicotes to hide in. It was practically a city.
The nest was attached near the ceiling of the byrinth.
"Hey… are you sure this will be okay?" one of the humans asked.
That's it, you're smart! You know this is a bad idea! Convince your friends to leave!
I was human before I died. I don't want all these people to die.
'But… should I really be worried?'
I'm a monster now. If these people saw me, they would definitely try to kill me.
"It's fine, don't worry. We have Sir Jerome with us." He pointed to the old mage.
The mage nodded, very confident in his abilities.
"Finjicotes have low defense. It'll be fine even if there are many of them." The man put away the map and drew his sword.
Then he said, "They've already noticed us. They're going to start attacking. Hit the nests to agitate them. Don't let them form groups—throw them into chaos!"
Hearing their leader, the archers fired arrows toward the nests.
One, two, three.
Three arrows struck the nest entrances, and immediately a deafening noise filled the chamber.
I stepped back, startled by what was about to happen.
'These idiots… can't they see this?'
Amid the darkness that they probably couldn't see through:
< Finjicote LV4 > < Finjicote LV2 > < Finjicote LV4 > < Finjicote LV5 > < Finjicote LV5 > < Finjicote LV6 > < Finjicote LV4 > < Finjicote LV1 > < Finjicote LV3 > < Finjicote LV6 > < Finjicote LV6 > < Finjicote LV6 > < Finjicote LV3 > < Finjicote LV4 > < Finjicote LV2 > …
There were an enormous number of them—WAY too many. I could see each of their levels. It was terrifying. If I ran into something like that, I would definitely panic.
"Get ready, here they come!" the leader shouted.
A rge fire spell shot toward the ceiling, engulfing several monsters. The brightness of the spell revealed the truth to them.
Numerous Finjicotes—and even High Finjicotes.
There's definitely a queen in this pce.
Their leader realized they had gotten themselves into serious trouble. His expression changed completely—he looked utterly terrified.
The other members of the group did as well.
"LEADER, WE NEED TO RUN NOW!" one of the archers shouted as he turned to flee.
He almost saw me, but I hid.
Then a hoarse voice echoed through the chamber.
"It's fine! Don't break formation! Attack them!" the mage shouted, casting another fire spell toward the Finjicotes descending at high speed.
They regained their confidence.
And that was the worst thing that could have happened.
A massacre began.
