Morning came and Hiro woke up with one thought in mind, what is the essence of a technique.
He cleaned himself up then finally changed out of his ruined clothes, before coming back to this question. He sat at one corner of the room by a desk, he looked stern but with a gentle and warm fire burning within him.
(To improve my new technique I need to understand what a technique is, not just know. But what do I know?)
Hiro paused as he began to recall all the information he knew about techniques, before he continued.
(Raw power and ability, a technique can be made from either of the two or both.
Secondly, the reason behind their creation is doing more than can be done without, while the overall input remains the same.
The best example is how body techniques help individuals display capabilities above what they normal do in the same conditions. They bring a person to the so called true hundred percent and over hundred percent.
While other techniques imitate abilities, my new technique falls under this category.
All techniques have levels based on how much they increase or improve upon power and ability, the first level being close to a hundred percent. The second being true hundred percent. The third being over a hundred percent but safe. Fourth and last, being extremely over a hundred and not safe.
The latter on average obviously exceeds what can be done with third level techniques, with an at least two times the power increase.
Lastly whether a technique has a backlash or not is irrelevant to its level, but all fourth level techniques that increase power have the backlash of hurting the body thanks to enabling an individual to push passed the limits of their power and go beyond the territory of what their bodies can handle.)
Of course recalling and pondering on this did not make Hiro fully understand what the essence of a technique was. But knowing what a technique is, was enough for now as he returned to his original thought, improving or fixing his failed technique.
"My first made technique and it's built on the back bone of Spiriton's ability. Of all the techniques I have it is the only one with one of its core's being an ability that even the extraordinary would lack as such it can't be taught to others, a Boone in case someone tries to steal it for themselves. But from what I was making it is flawed if nothing else."
Hiro started evaluating it, comparing how different it was from what he was making.
At some point Hiro summoned Spiriton sharing its senses with himself while he recalled his last attack on the fragment. It started out hopeful but when it began to transform Hiro's heart sank which was even noticed by the fragment, intentional or not it had helped him in its own way.
Its transformation continued till it became something Hiro recognised, a black hole, and like he was familiar with them from seeing Soltia's spells it devoured anything around it, in his case the fragment.
This was definitely not the space severing technique he was going for but it still worked, which was why as a technique it was successful but as a desired effect it failed.
While remaining in his chair Hiro continued to probe this new technique and the eventual conclusion was no amount of improvement could get him to the space severing effect.
"Disappointing but this isn't an average technique, it is definitely something I can rely on. All that's left is further polishing and practicing it so it can be used with greater ease in a fight."
With his assessment done, Spiriton was returned to its subspace while Hiro's focus shifted to another recent thought.
"Creating technique based on my abilities, a pleasant thought to be sure but I need solid foundations, otherwise these are merely hopeful thoughts. But once I have these foundations I might even create a technique that I can use to control the trajectory of my ranged slashes."
Upon saying this his mood seemed to tire like he hadn't just woken up not long ago as he thought about it.
(Establishing a foundation for a technique is hard not to mention making it but this is more of a future goal. As for now, what I need to deal with is the naming of this new technique and the renaming of my ranged attacks.)
Naming a technique was a pain without a doubt but a necessary one. Similar to how spells with clear incantations and visualisation had more power than those without.
All of Hiro's ranged slashes, from the swordsman ranged slash, Spiriton's ranged space slash and now this ranged slash technique, they all required new names.
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Calling the first merely by ranged slash was redundant now that he had the other two. While calling the second space slash was also redundant when it's applicable for both ranged attacks and a non-range attacks. Lastly the new technique had no name to begin with.
"What do you think I should name them?"
Hiro asked B One while he continued to think of names himself.
"The first is easy, just stick it with the name void slash."
B One gave one suggestion then turned silent, and it was the easiest to name but Hiro was thankful for it nonetheless, after all he hadn't thought of it himself. And he found it to be quite suitable, perhaps even better than what he could have come up with himself.
He preferred the name so much that he didn't bother thinking of an alternative.
Just like that he was only left with two to name, space slash was the hardest, he had to name them in such a way that there would be no conflict between the ranged version and non-ranged version.
As for the new technique, he soon came up with a few names. The first was black hole slash, dismissed immediately after it was thought up. The second, black or abyssal slash but dismissed as well. The third, devouring slash contending with the fourth, vortex slash. Hiro wasn't sure which of the two fit best but wasn't literal to expose its true nature.
"Forget it, this is enough for now."
Hiro gave up after reaching the bare minimum to avoid conflict of visualisation and 'incantation'.
He got off the chair while summoning Spiriton once more, striding towards his ruined shadow dragon scale clothing on the bed alongside the clothes gifted to him.
"Now then, to deal with you."
Hiro was full of ideas on this day and he was going through them one by one. One of which had been influenced by his recent experiences.
There were two of these experiences. The prominent one being entering Spiriton's subspace, along with the experience of the painting world. The idea formed from this, using subspace as storage for anything he wanted to travel with.
It was a revolutionary idea in its own right and if he had thought of it before leaving his world, Hiro was sure he would have taken a lot more than he took before leaving.
It may sound foolish but looking like a porter was definitely not something he wanted, especially when he didn't even know what kind of World he was going to. But if he was successful he could travel with loads upon loads of gear without ever being overwhelmed by the luggage.
"I hope this works, then I can travel light without traveling light."
Said Hiro as his eyes flashed with excitement, there were simply too many doors this opened. He was even sure his ideas were not enough to use this to its full potential.
But there was one obstacle to his goal, not having a method of making the subspaces he makes mobile.
Spiriton making subspaces was a thing of the past, this was used countless times to seal the demon lord. But throughout its recorded history the only mobile subspace associated with the holy sword was its very own subspace.
"Spiriton's subspace is large, large enough to not worry about space when storing anything but it won't allow anything other than me and itself into its subspace."
Even with this disappointing fact Hiro wasn't dispirited, using Spiriton's subspace would only be a welcome shortcut. In the end he simply had to work around some areas and he would have a mobile subspace free to use whenever and wherever.
Hiro, determined to find an answer began experimenting, an unwavering fire burning in his eyes. Ideas came in waves as he tried them one by one.
One idea was linking the subspace to an item outside, when the object moved the subspace would be moved with it. But the idea was shelved, Hiro had no way of connecting space to objects.
Another idea was thought up, cutting and folding the space of the object instead, thus making it so small that even an entire house would be portable. But it had two drawbacks, their weight remained and the time needed to fold and unfold faced with life and death situations could prove fatal.
Several other ideas were thought up but they either had requirements Hiro did not meet or had drawbacks he could not afford.
But there was one approach with a difficult requirement but was most versatile. Connecting two separate subspaces, one mobile subspace and one stationary subspace.
Of course the subspaces still had to be self enclosed this way Spiriton would definitely not object.
"Only the question of how I connect them while they remain self enclosed remains."
Hiro noted while cutting too irrelevant spaces in the room then tried connecting them and it worked.
"Sigh, if only it was that easy."
He said with frown. After they were connected and Hiro began his analysis of the two subspaces, he found they could influenced one another, a deal breaker. The connecting area allowed movement between the two spaces.
Hiro did not falter and continued shrinking the connecting area to its limit but the issue remained if something was small enough it could move through the connecting point.
But even with this door closed he could still see hope.
He went back to working on a solution, not long after tirelessly putting his efforts into his ideas, he arrived at an answer. The connected area simply had to be cut and folded to make a looped space.
"Took a bit of thought but I was successful in the end."
He expressed with a feeling of content, next he cut the space before him, the clothes were in it. The cut space seemed to misalign with its surroundings like a cropped out part of an image.
After cutting it Hiro began to fold the space to complete the subspace. When he was done the clothes only looked like they had simply disappeared but in reality they were now in a mini space separate from the rest of the World's space, connected to Spiriton's subspace.
"With this I don't have to worry about my future luggage, plus I felt weird about storing my stuff in this room."
Hiro was surprised to have such a feeling, as an adventure being on the move wasn't a constant but wasn't a rarity either. As such he was familiar with staying in unfamiliar land, spending his nights at inns or the wilderness.
"Might be because I view this place as someone else's or maybe just the Palace's atmosphere. Not that it matters."
He dismissed before tossing himself into the bed. He was done for now with self evaluation and improvements, and had revitalised his mental exhaustion. One night's rest was simply not enough to relieve all the mental fatigue he had.
There was still some time before the day would become busy so a short nap was doable. As such he chose to sleep some more.
After an hour's nap or so he was awoken by the sound of knocking.
"Sir Hiro, his Highness Prince Aleus has invited you to have breakfast with him."
"Oh, was he that impatient to know the details."
Hiro muttered with raised brows and a slight smirk before going out to meet with Aleus.
