50. Proclamation

“Honorable human! For most of you, this will be the first time you lay eyes on us, Entram! Races that are chosen by the system as it heralds! An Orator!”

The skeleton clenched his bony arm. Rue could tell the pride swelling in Semis’s words. But, he couldn’t help but notice how it was conveniently left out that Entram is a Sentram that had their beauty taken away because of their rebellion against the system, and now forced to serve it.

Ashram has been honest with Rue, something that this new watcher probably wouldn’t do.

“I shall help you and grant you quests to aid in your predicament! Worry not, this is something every race in the multiverses goes through. You might consider yourself unlucky to be born in such a time. But, I would recommend switching that kind of useless thinking, and start to accept that you–each of you here, shall be the sword of humanity! One that in history books will be mentioned, leading your entire race to survival and connecting humanity to a greater multiverse. Everything starts from here! Each spell you use, each weapon you swing, each of them will be the actions that lead toward the future! So stand and be proud! For this is just the beginning!”

Semis raised both of his hands wide and high.

Silence greeted him, eerie murmur went through the crowd. A hundred thousand of them. The number still is a deep fantasy inside of Rue’s head, even now when he was around heap of bodies—thankfully, the corner brick wall is a welcome sight. He almost wanted to give Soma the Lion Class Change for free because of the spot he secured.

“Now, let me explain the hurdles we needed to get through.”

“The invisible barrier that spans across five Kilometers from the four walls shall be lifted very soon. The first phase that hasn't been cleared will get a certain push by the system, forcing the humans to seek out their respective targets. It will not take until this morning, according to my estimation. So please do prepare. For the Four anomaly, one of them has been taken down; the other four existed within this castle.”

  The skeleton went on.

“Now, you might have noticed, the third phase is an important phase to make allies for your own world, and most of all for your development. This includes classes, items, and professions. You will want a head start, for those of you high-level, I’m sure some god will snatch you up and offer various help. But in this second Phase, there will be plenty of chances to get a head start. Both inside of these castle walls and outside”

“What is he talking about?” Rue said to Soma, who had his neck craned up along the others around him.

“God?” Soma spoke lowly, “Could it be—”

“Soma!” Rue snapped the red-haired attention.

Junior is the one who answered, as Soma was ignoring Rue. “There was an altar Eur, inside the wall. There’s a bunch of them; no one knows what to make them. Most just leave them be.”

“Altar?” Rue muttered. What are you suppose to do with that?

“I’m sure most of you have encountered some sort of divine object, or perhaps an altar to offer prayer. Well. Praying to the gods is one of the most effective ways to get their attention, although most wouldn’t give you their time for the day unless you are able to offer anything or interest them. Outside, there are plenty of places and objects that are able to connect you with divinity as well, those places I shall not tell what they are. For if I did, the gods would no longer be interested in any of you. And lastly, receiving a class cannot be done without a cost. Should you get one from a scroll or directly from the gods… You have to undergo ‘shedding’, which means to let go of any of your previous class skills and restart your level from level 1.”

That sends a murmur through the crowd. Rue made out countless conversations; he tried to eavesdrop, but words overlap against each other. It did nto escape him, some of them summoned a colored scroll—just like his Lion scroll and green Plague Doctor scroll. It reminded him that he is not the only one that been seeking power; some of them ought to have interesting items. Rue just had to pin some of them down to trade.

“So, I highly recommend that any of you who have access to a class you like to undergo shedding immediately, as from now on, spawned monsters shall get stronger and stronger. I bid you best wishes, humans. I shall have the honor to assist all of you. My service is yours, and I shall obey Mey Skevith on her order.”

Semis bowed to Mey, his cloak fluttered against the strong wind as he did, highlighting his bony skeletal body.

Mey turned to the crowd and spoke.

“I’m well aware some of you are eager to go through class change, some probably will start kneeling on some gods they don’t know about.. I must ask you not to do that. I will not forbid anyone, but at least wait until you get your watch assignment.”

Mey paused, and two figures ascended the stairs and stood beside her. Elend was there, he and the long-hair glassed man stood next to each other. The other is an archer—not Ephey, but a man who also wore a cowboy hat similar to Ephey, he held a bow that thrummed with green slithering glow,

“Rufus, Rafael, Elend, and Me shall each have command over a wall. Each of us has decided on a watch rotation for the first day above the wall. We shall study the monster movement for the first day, and adjust for the second and onward. No offense team will be formed yet. And those who want to undergo this ‘shedding’, I must ask you to hold at least until we decide what to do on the second day. In each paper you receive, there’s one of our names. Now, we will go our separate ways and follow us, your assigned commander. Each commander will hold a meeting in the dining hall inside their own wall.”

Mey jumped down from the wall she stood upon, fire flashed from her feet, and she began walking out of the courtyard without any explanation. Rue wondered if this was because she hated talking, maybe so. Her figure got farther as people exchanged looks with each other.

Then a voice boomed, pushing wind that ruffled Rue’s tunic. “Fool! Those who got Mey name, then follow her now!” The blonde glassed man screamed. Rue covered his ears at the mere grating noises echoing in the night air. The crowd groans, shouting at the long hair. A lot of people began streaming out, making their way to the northern wall. Rue wondered who would be assigned to watch the castle, nestled right in the middle of the four walls? Well, the castle wouldn’t be needed if none of the walls had fallen.

“Who do you guys get?” Rue asked Soma and Junior.

“Rafael,” Soma answered. “In the west wall, same as you, Rue.”

“Rafael?” Rue muttered the name, looking at the three men still standing over the crowd. “Which one is he?” He hopes it's not the blonde-haired man. He wished for either Mey or Elend, at least he knew both of them then. “The archer,” He asked hopefully

“Nope,” Soma sighed, “It’s the screaming one.”

“Hey,” Junior cut in. “At least our rooms are next to each other!” The fat boy cheered. “We have some time before the assembly, in another hour it is written here.” He waved the paper. “Let's hang out!”

“This is not a field trip,” Soma grumbled.

“Oh come on!” Junior slung his meaty arm around Rue and Soma’s neck. Yanking them forward as they follow the crowd toward the west wall. “This will be nice... I saw a group of girls that been assigned one floor beneath us, we should introduce—”

“No,” Rue and Soma said in unison. Before he stopped himself. Hold on, isn’t this what he wanted? To graduate from lonesome living? But, then again, this is hardly the time. He still has Plague Doctor skill option to mull about.

“Seriously, both of you? At least, let’s hang out? In Rue’s room”

  “Wait, why mine?”

“You’re the only one with a settled room already, right? We still had to dump our stuff. Well, they’re not that much, honestly.”

“I want to talk about the ticket, too, Rue. Do you mind if we gather? In twenty?’

Rue was about to refuse, but he doesn’t see why not. “All right, sure, let's do it.”
