That Particular Day
Feburary 14th, 2017…
Yawns…
“Tricky, wake up! It’s time for school! I prepared some breakfast for you!” Shouts his mom, waking the porcupine but still drowsy.
“... Co… Coming…!” Tricky responds, but he’s feeling tired as hell, not wanting the audacity to wake himself up at an instant. Eventually, he gives some time to prepare himself, closing his eyes once more. Then, when he ultimately gets up, he’s ready for whatever he’s getting prepared for. “What is this day today?” Grabbing his phone, he checks what that day is… and it’s definitely that day. “Oh god…”
THUD!!!
“Solid!?” However, his brother isn’t even here; everything in his room is already neat and ready for the day. “Right… because he’s always early… makes sense… I swear if he does this to-”
“Solid is already at school! Make sure to pack those lunches for today, okay, sweetie?” However, his mom interrupts his inspection, wanting him to have a good day at school.
“Yes, mom!” The young, teenage porcupine sprints out of the hallway and grabs his breakfast, ready to be eaten for the day. The usual sandwich that his mom provides for him is the go-to special, the greatest thing he has ever seen since… umm… he probably doesn’t even know when. “Wow… sandwich-filled croissants with the usual cheese and avocado… Thanks, mom!”
“You’re welcome!” However, before he can get the chance to go out, “Before you drive, wanna get a goodbye kiss?”
Groans… “Mom… We’ve done this every day…” Ultimately, he still gives in, with him hugging her and receiving a kiss on his head.
“Okay! Okay! Have a great day at school, Tricky! Make sure you have a great Valentine’s-” Though the porcupine immediately dashes out, making his mom giggle from his entire reaction. “I wonder if he knows…”

SKRRT!!!
“Crap! I need to find where Solid is!”
Instantly hopping out of his vehicle, Tricky runs through the school to check the Valentine’s Holiday. He’s part of the majority, those without a girlfriend. Although being a thug and literally hitting up so many of them, he’s remained unsuccessful. He doesn’t even know why. But the one thing he’s looking for is his brother. And he’s been searching everywhere…
Classrooms.
Hallways.
Cafeteria.
Unsuccessful is the keyword. Because other than putting on some wireless earbuds to comfort himself, nothing seems to go his way. So, he decides to walk to his classroom.
It’s not until…
“Yo, bro.” His anthropomorphic red panda friend and his other friends approached him, casually smirking at each other. “Your brother and his best friend are hitting up, for real. I think they’re now dating. Legit, saw them kiss, but I don’t even know, man. He got a baddie before you.”

Instantly stopping, Tricky slowly glances at the red panda, rolling his eyes and sighing in response. “Tell me you’re lying, Branch. Legit, like, you ain’t gonna pull a prank on me while I’m at it. My brother ain’t have the guts to propose to his dog.” He pokes at Branch’s chest, not wanting to hear the whole Solid x Woofa thing.
“No bs! That’s the reason why your brother likes dogs more than cats! Cause of his cutie pie for the Valentines! They be going at it behind your back, man! They are the main topic in this school!” His other friend, being an anthropomorphic serow, pats the porcupine’s shoulder, genuinely feeling bad for him. “Come on… You gotta trust us on this!”
Groans… “I see it when I believe it, god damn, bro! Whoever is shipping them, they are saying “Solfa”, like WHAT?! Is this some kind of fanfic?!” Tricky honestly doesn’t wanna hear more of the conversation, wanting to move on from whatever the whole Solid and Woofa situation is about. Sigh… “Lemme go to class. Got some AP Calculus BC, whatever, I’m even taking with the hedgehog.” Openly and admittingly, he casually leaves, letting his friends chuckle it off, while the porcupine wants to move on.
— Second Period—
For Tricky, he’s grateful that he doesn’t have to wake up, or else he’ll wake up like a zombie in first period. Gotta thank himself for the easy college classes he’s been taking, genuinely makes things easier for the high schooler. Waiting outside the classroom, he talks with his classmates, talking about what’s going to happen today. It temporarily eases the porcupine’s mind, just away from whatever Valentine’s Day is within his mind-
“Did you hear about Solid and Woofa? I saw them holding hands!” Squeals! “I can’t believe those two best friends finally and openly admitted to each other!” One of his classmates says as she openly discusses the now-popular couple. “My boyfriend told me about them. He even told me that they actually kissed! OHHH!!! I can’t wait to see!”
“... So it’s true… they’re dating…” Tricky takes a deep breath. He knows that Solid has the same class as him, despite being one grade level lower than him. It’s because that hedgehog is smarter than his older porcupine brother.
Anywho…
“Tricky!” Most of his classmates approach him, all questioning him about the same thing. “Is it true that your step-brother is dating his best friend?”
Surprised yet unsurprised by the group huddle, the porcupine has to confirm with his classmates. “I-I-I don’t know! You think he’d… tell… me…”
And there they were. The two best friends that everyone knows are now dating. Holding hands and embracing each other, making Tricky’s jaw drop. Both looking at each other affectionately, and both embracing their moment together. Essentially, almost everyone witnessed the two; never have they seen a hedgehog and a dog dating in their entire life. All this time, what Solid had done early this morning was to meet with Woofa…. And admit his feelings to her. Maybe all the teasings that the porcupine had said to his little brother really backfired on this particular day.
As they get closer to the porcupine, Tricky can hear their entire conversation, extremely puzzled. “Oh, how I love you so much… my orange furball…” Woofa leans her head onto her boyfriend’s shoulder, nuzzling contentedly as her tail wags in reaction. “I can’t believe we’ve been best friends in middle school! I was trying to find someone to love, and I didn’t realize… it was someone next to me…”
For the boyfriend, Solid sighs contentfully, seeing how clingy his girlfriend is. Is she always clingy? Yeah. He had this feeling since they were best friends. Like, no matter what, whenever he’s in the dog’s sight, she always comes up to him. It’s been the sign, but he didn’t feel that way before. Still, something in his heart felt different, feeling like something had changed… bittersweet?
Definitely.
He’s happy because he can finally admit his true feelings to the one he has known since the first day they met, since middle school. At the same time, he feels sad that they’re no longer best friends, the end of what they’ve established. Yet seeing his girlfriend satisfied completely uplifts his mood, and their next chapter together. Both of them, nuzzling their own noses, a sign of love. “Making my day? I knew someone had to confess… just one moment. Never knew my dog was like this.”
They knew that those two, as best friends, wouldn’t last as long as they hoped. The hedgehog and a dog are quite a combo, if you ask me. “Aww… such a lovely couple…”
Instantly, Tricky rubs his eyes, checking to see if any of this dream is real. “Am I dreaming…? There's no way in hell they're literally falling in love… Solid even admitted that he wouldn’t-”
Then, out of nowhere, his brother immediately pulls her close. He wraps his arms around her waist like they’ve been dating, with no reluctance whatsoever for his actions. “My~ My~ Someone’s confident… You haven’t been like this at all, my orange furball…”
Blushing from Woofa’s teasing, she decides to wrap her arms around his neck, making sure everyone sees how far their relationship has developed. “A kiss?” The hedgehog asks, unsure if his girlfriend wants to do the unthinkable.
Slowly smirking, she glances at everyone before looking at the porcupine. Hilariously, she sees that his jaw is still dropped, making her want to do it. “Show them… especially that porcupine…”
“Oh…” Tricky doesn’t want to move; his jaw is still wide open from what he’s witnessing.
Slowly but surely, both their faces moved closer, inches away from a kiss. They can feel themselves needing something lively, and something to uplift in this moment, and here… with a true and certain moment… they kis-
Beep!
Beep!
Beep!
“HOLY-!!!” Tricky yells in his bed, excessively panting as he clutches his chest tightly, thankful that it’s just a dream. “Oh, thank god… thank you… That was a dream… I need to go to school…”
“Tricky?” Solid opens the door, genuinely confused by his sudden outburst. “You alright in here?”
“N-Nothing!” Immediately seeing his brother, he closes the door, locking him outside. “I’m perfectly fine here! I-I’ll-I’ll prepare… soon…” Confused yet unconcerned, Solid leaves him alone, making sure Tricky gets a deep sigh of relief for today on Valentine’s Day.
Sigh…
“Solfa (Solid x Woofa)...”
