The Lost Vampire System Chapter 9 - Entering the Military Academy
Jareth could only describe that what he was looking at was the future. There were thirty huge state of the art futuristic buildings that stood in front of them. White buildings with glass windows. There were a couple of buildings around the three and some that were floating in the sky. Flying vehicles and floating elevators were transporting people around.
The group looked around and behind them, they could see that they were in a huge, paved area right in front of a gate that went out to a city. The military school was on a little hill so that they could see out into the city. The city wasn’t huge in terms of the size of the buildings, but it went on for a while until it got to a body of water. Some areas looked nice and others not so much. There would also be a couple small areas where there were no buildings and were just miniature forests or parks. The military base was on the side of the city so that back of the base was next to a mountain where there was a temple on top of the mountain with a big dome. There was a wall that surrounded the entire military school.
“Congratulations on passing,” Robert said taking back their attention. “Welcome to Military base 6. There are 100 military academies’ that the military has, and you are in the sixth one.”
“Wait, there are 100?” Emma asked.
“Yes,” Robert confirmed continuing on. “This will be your new home for the next three years, so you better get comfortable. You will be given three meals a day that are paid for. Each day $10 will be given to your Forwatch’s. Use this at the vending machines, rent a box to practice your skills or save to buy weapons or just to use your money in the city. Just be warned that the money can be forcefully transferred to other people’s Forwatch’s. This is allowed because it encourages people to get stronger. Jareth and Henry, this is more of a warning to both of you.” Robert said this while facing them.
Jareth sighed internally. He hated that this was even allowed to happen. That the strong were even allowed to steal from the weak, just to try and encourage them to become stronger. Jareth hoped that he could change this in the future.
“I will show you to your rooms,” Robert said, interrupting Jareth’s thoughts. He turned and began walking towards the farthest building on the right.
The group started to follow, while Damion and Madison were slightly supporting the sluggish Jareth, who was slightly leaning over. A shadow had descended upon the area. Everyone looked up to see that a dark cloud had covered the sun, blocking the light from reaching them. This caused a system to give Jareth a notification.
“You are no longer in direct sunlight. All stats have returned to normal.” The system announced.
Immediately Jareth stood up straight as he felt that his strength had returned to him.
“Thanks, you two,” Jareth said. “I’m good now, the sun isn’t out anymore.”
They both stared at him for a moment, but they let go and stopped supporting him. They were surprised that as fast as the sun had stopped touching his body, that he was able to return to being normal. But they both pushed this concern aside because in their eyes, it wasn’t a big deal.
The group continued walking towards the building on the right, while they were admiring their surroundings. The landscape was nice green grass with a couple trees here and there. They walked over a tiny bridge that went over a small body of water. As soon as they walked over, Robert stopped walking and turned around.
“Since one of my colleagues has to leave abruptly, another group will be merging with ours,” Robert announced while looking behind them. “Some other groups will be coming here to start the tours.”
The group noticed this and turned around to see a group of five heading in their direction being led by a military personnel member. The group was composed of two girls and three guys which was the same as their group except they had one less girl. Two of the men looked like they were twins, and were wearing a black T-shirt with black pants. Both of the twins were buff, and they had a lot of muscle on them. The third man had a purple jean jacket which went well with his jean pants, and his body language was relaxed like he had done this before, while not having a care in the world. One girl had red hair with freckles on her face and her eyes were light green. She was wearing a pink sundress that showed her sun touched skin. The last girl Jareth recognized as his sister Mia, with her jet-black hair that was slightly wavy, and her bright blue eyes. She was also holding a book with a wave symbol on it, and Jareth recognized it as the water Evolved book.
Mia’s eyes widened when she realized that Jareth was in the group in front of her. She became overwhelmed with excitement.
“Jareth,” Mia exclaimed as she ran over and gave Jareth a hug.
The others were surprised as they glanced at the two of them. They noticed that Mia was a pretty girl, but Jareth didn’t look like he would be her brother since he didn’t look too handsome, like Mia looked pretty. They soon realized that both of their hair and eyes looked the same, so they were convinced that they were siblings. Having siblings enter together was relatively rare, since one would need to be born in late summer and the other in early summer for them to attend the military academy at the same time. The other option was being twins, which was how the two men in the group came along.
Mia pulled back and looked at Jareth’s group.
“Let’s introduce ourselves,” Mia suggested.
As the two groups introduced themselves, Robert and his colleague talked for a moment before he left for the gate that led to the city. The other groups arrived but didn’t really interact with their now group of eleven.
Jareth found out the names of the group. The twins’ names were Hudson and Hunter. The twins told him that the only way to tell them apart was the fact that hunter had a small scar that crossed the tip of his nose. The sundress girl’s name was Keira, and the relaxed looking boy’s name was Axel. Before they could ask each other what their Evolved power was Robert’s voice snapped them out of their conversation.
“I must give you all a quick tour and directions of what you can do. You guys can get to know each other later since you will be classmates.”
Immediately, the other groups tried to talk to one another, figure out who to befriend, and look for the strongest among them.
“Ok, let me get this tour over with so you can interact with each other.” Robert announced.
The students stopped chatting and devoted their full attention to Robert.
“Welcome to Military Base 6. You will be here for the next three years, except for the month of May, which would be considered your summer holiday, along with one or two weeks off during the year. Before I introduce you to your rooms, I will announce how the classes, curfew and a few other things will work. Class will be from 8:00am to 2:00 pm. You will first go to your home room class for roughly an hour. Then you will choose from a list of classes for your second class. Some are Evolved training classes to help with your powers, weapons class, and an elemental Evolved class. There might be one new class added in a day. The third class will be an educational class. A Becifer class to learn about the different type of beasts that roam about the Becifer planets, Becifer dungeon expeditions. Becifer dungeons are places on these places that go deep underground. They have multiple floors and some are harder than others. Once you get to the bottom floor there is a core that seems to power these strange places. The cores are very valuable. Lastly knowledge that may popup within the course of your three years. There will be lunch before the educational classes. You can change classes at any time, but you must be at one of the classes.” Robert paused so that everyone could take that in.
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Jareth thought about the classes he should take. It would be best to take the weapons class since he didn’t have any evolved powers. Now he didn’t know a lot about the list of the second classes, so he decided to think about them later. Maybe there would be a swordsmanship class. Ever since he was little, he always dreamed about fighting with a sword.
Robert continued. “You may leave the Academy to go out and explore the city. The curfew is at 1am. Now for the dormitory, Girls can wander anywhere in the girls and boy's dormitory. Boys can only go in the girl's dormitory until 7 pm. Just like the regular curfew the girls must be in the rooms by 1am. This is to prevent any mishaps from the boys.” Robert looked at a couple of boys that were in the crowd. “Follow me.”
Robert turned around and walked towards the building. Everyone followed behind him. Robert opened up the two doors and walked inside. Jareth held open one of the doors while Damion held the other door. Once everyone made it in, the two let go of the doors and looked around at the ceiling that was high above them. The whole place was relatively nice. They were in a large cafeteria filled with rows of tables and neatly arranged chairs. Everyone looked up to see 4 stories worth of balconies that went around the cafeteria hall. There were bridges that had some smaller tables and chairs lined on them and it looked like it got nicer as it went up.
“This is where you will be eating,” Robert announced. “As you guys have probably noticed, the higher the floor the nicer it was. In order to eat on a higher floor, you must show that you are strong.” Robert smiled on the crowd. “If you don’t think that you are strong, I suggest that you just come down and eat here, since the first day can get ugly, which will be at dinner tonight.
Some looked around with worry and anxiety, like Henry, because he didn’t even have an Evolved power yet. Jareth was nervous too, because even though he possessed something that no one else had he was still weak.
Damion leaned over to whisper in Jareth’s ear. “Don’t worry, I will sit with you and Henry during dinner.”
Jareth glanced at him and gave a slight smile. He was glad that Damion wasn’t bullying him.
“Well, I won’t,” Hannah said. “I will challenge people and get onto one of the upper floors, so that our group doesn’t look weak.”
Damion glared at Hannah, but she just looked away.
“Now to your dormitories,” Robert announced.
He went to the right and went around the corner. The group followed and saw that there were 5 elevators that were on either side of the wall. The up arrow was already pushed.
“Head up to the 11th floor,” Robert announced as one of the elevator doors opened.
He got in the elevator along with his group of eleven, since the elevator was spacious and nice. The doors closed and the elevator glided up smoothly. The numbers on the side kept increasing until it hit the 11th floor. The doors opened so they exited. Not long after, the other doors of the elevators opened, and the rest of the other groups came out. Then from Jareth’s right side a door opened as a group of kids came out of a stairwell panting for breath.
“I beat you,” a kid with brown hair said.
“You tripped me,” another kid with dark red hair protested.
Robert coughed to get their attention.
“This floor is for the girl’s dormitory,” Robert announced. “The boy’s is between floors six through ten. The tenth floor is the VIP floor. You will need a code while in the elevator to go to that floor. The girl’s dormitory is floor eleven to fifteen. Floor fifteen is the VIP floor for the girls which will also need a code. The girl’s dormitory eleven to fourteen will require a code after 7 pm. If you are a VIP or a girl, your code will be in your Forwatch.
“Sir,” a student interrupted from the group next to them. “How do you become a VIP?”
The others looked back at Robert and waited for his answer.
“You would have had to make a donation to the Military beforehand. The donation is not small either.”
The students sighed after hearing this. Robert continued his explanation.
“The 16th and 17th floors are where the boxes are located. It’s $5 to rent one for an hour.”
Now, that’s what I have been waiting for, Jareth thought. The virtual reality gaming boxes that really feels like you are in the real world. I can get to practicing my skills for any test up ahead for the future.
Jareth and his sister shared a knowing glance. They both were thinking the same thing. They were too poor to use them. They were cheaper to rent here than in the outside world.
Robert continued, “Since you get paid $10 a day being here that is two hours a day. The higher floor has… well you go and find out I will be late if I keep talking. In-between all of the buildings for the students to eat and sleep there is an underground library. The first sub floor is for first year students, second and third are for their corresponding years, and the fourth is for staff only. Each floor has a VIP section and if you perform well, you will get access to that area.”
If I can go to the library, I can look to see any information about vampires, Jareth thought. I can even take a look at Nephilims and Cambions.
Robert then lifted up a basket that appeared out of nowhere, and everyone looked at him with a confused face. The basket had keys with a key tag attached to it. It showed the floor number a dash then the room number on it.
“VIP’s,” Robert said. “If there is any in this group, an electronic version will be on your Forwatch’s, but there will be a key in your rooms.”
He began calling out names, and whenever a student raised their hand, Robert tossed them a key. One throw nearly hit a student in the eye.
“This is why the VIPs didn’t get a physical key right away. For the next five minutes, you can trade with each other,” Robert announced with a huge grin.
Immediately, a ruckus broke out as people began talking among themselves, trying to trade or share a room with someone strong to get ahead.
“You got the same as mine.”
Jareth looked up to see Henry put his key next to his. It showed the number 6-11. Floor 6 room 11.
“I guess we do,” Jareth smiled sweetly at Henry who smiled back at him.
A few feet away from two, the relaxed looking kid Axel looked down at his key which displayed 6-11. He looked over and noticed that Jareth and Henry had the same thing. He gave a slight smile. Well, according their Forwatch’s they are only level ones, so I won’t be bullied by them, Axel thought as he gave a slight sigh. My worries are gone now.
Axel was about to walk over to greet Jareth and Henry when Damion had walked up to him. Damion looked at his card and gave a smile to Axel.
“Let’s trade,” Damion said.
“Um, no thank you,” Axel said back to Damion. “I like my arrangements.”
“But I insist,” Damion said, a faint glow flickering in his eyes as dirt gathered around his hands.
Axel looked at his hands indifferently. He was confident that he could fight off Damion. He had a strong Evolved power that would render Damion incapacitated but he didn’t want to get that far and possibly make an enemy on day one.
“Why do you care about this so much?” Axel asked.
“I’ve taken a liking to Jareth. He is nice and I like his beliefs.”
Axel was still adamant about trading his room with Damion since he didn’t know what kind of people Damion had been paired up with.
Damion then stood up straight. “My name is Damion Youngblood, and I think we can come to an agreement.”
Axel’s body shuddered when he heard the name, Youngblood. He knew Damion’s first name from their interaction when the two groups came together, but he would’ve never guessed that Youngblood was his last name. His mother had told him that if he ever came into contact with a Youngblood, he should avoid getting on his bad side at all costs, and if he did, she would disown him.
He put his key into Damion’s hand and took Damion’s key from his hand.
Damion looked a little confused but smiled at Axel.
“Thank you, Axel,” he said happily. “I’ll repay you later.”
Damion walked away from the normally relaxed Axel, but now he was shaking with anxiety at the sound of the name, Youngblood.
