“It was all over the news,” Asher exclaimed with the widest of grins. “Articles immediately published online, other news outlets tuned in to cover what happened, and the government scrambled to interview every single employee there. You did a good damn job, Ayela. We all did… I hope this serves as an appropriate revenge for the deaths of Kacyn, the congregation masters, and everyone else who lost their lives when this journey started.”
She took a deep breath as she sat down beside Kamille. “…It’s something. It’s a blow to Emperor Gorvon’s regime. It’s an answer for the lives they tossed aside. That’s all I need to feel some peace,” she explained. She looked around at her apartment, and realized just how far she’d come in their journey. She had a home next to the seat of the emperor. She was an enemy, a threat to him, and he had no clue just how close she was.
“This is the end we wanted,” Kamille said. “This is the victory we fought for. We fought a god, a cult, and monsters to get to this point. And here we are. This end needs to be a beginning, though. The darklings will know that we brought this victory, and they’ll be ready for what you have for the Asher.”

“You’re right,” he said, folding his arms across his chest. “So let’s make this our battle cry. Tonight I leave for Shustur. I’ll start there. I bought tickets for a shuttle tomorrow morning. After that, You’ll be in charge of this cell here in the Capital, Kamille. It’s only fitting that you head this one up, seniority and all… As for you, Ayela… Watch out for that boyfriend of yours.”
“Hey-”
“I’m only joking!” He said with a sly grin, throwing his hands up. “…I’m going to miss you guys. This has been our best mission yet.”
The girls let out a long “aww” and hugged him. “You’ll be missed to…” Ayela said. “Be safe out there.”
“…Always. Let’s go get some drinks at that pub down the street and celebrate,” Asher urged. They quickly grabbed their things and made their way to the door, but Ayela stopped to look back at her apartment one more time. Good things were coming for them, she could feel it. As they left, her mind lingered on one passioned question she longed to ask the spirit of Kacyn…
…Are you at peace now?
…Yes, Majjai…
I’m at peace.
