Chapter 34 - More Dungeon, More Loot

Lucian and Annabelle fought through several rooms filled with enemies, Bloomborn Rippers, Great-Hounds, and Rotseekers. There was the occasional trap as well. Much like the traps on the first floor, they fired objects at high speed, though these shot poison coated thorns instead of sharpened rocks. They were harder to see on the second floor as well, hidden from view by foliage.

They ended up making use of the [Lesser Trapfinder’s Stone] when they came across a room that was completely empty save for a raised circular section in its center, on which sat a large chest. Annabelle tossed the stone up in her hand once and caught it, testing its weight, before activating [Trapfind]. The triangular lattice engraved across the stone’s surface pulsed with a dim light, and she tossed it past the chamber’s threshold. It landed with the clink of stone against stone and bounced twice before the lattice shone again, brighter than before. A subtle pulse visible only by a slight distortion in the air emanated from the stone, rushing outwards until it hit the walls and ceiling of the room. As the stone bounced again and rolled to a stop, still glowing, lights began to shine throughout the room as various traps began to glow with a dim light that outlined them against their surroundings.

Lucian counted 13 traps illuminated by the stone, mostly along the walls, but he noted 3 of them were on the floor - some of the large bricks that made up the floor probably acted as pressure plates. They cautiously entered the room, avoiding lines mentally drawn outwards from the wall traps like invisible tripwires, and of course making sure not to step on the 3 glowing floor tiles.

The chest itself contained a bow made of sandy colored wood and strung with a dark green cord. The arms of the bow had a strange surface, like several thinner strands of wood had been wound together to create them, smoothing out into a cleaner surface near the bow’s center. Several stone tipped arrows sat in the chest alongside the bow, their shafts made of the same sandy wood.

There was no room past the trap-filled treasure chamber, so they took the bow and arrows and brought them back to the second floor’s central room. Annabelle scooped up the [Lesser Trapfinder’s Stone] as they left. Once retrieved, the glow running through the stone’s lattice-covered surface began to dim, and the light illuminating the traps along with it. It took about a minute for it to deactivate completely, giving them enough time to get out of the room with the stone’s dwindling guidance.

Making it back to the central chamber they took a moment to review their gains.

Lucian managed to get two skills to level 3. The first, [Cleaving Wind], from an encounter with more Rotseekers. He had been grazed twice during it, which allowed Annabelle to level up both [Minor Cure] and [Forest’s Protection] to level 2 as well.

The second skill was [Night Vision], its level was entirely unrelated to any event or encounter in particular. It seemed to level up with passive use, Lucian had no complaints.

Then there was the bow. [Analyze] revealed the details without them having to yet again risk equipping a potentially cursed item.

Lucian nodded, “Certainly an interesting item, but not for either of us.” He handed the bow to Annabelle and explained its effects.

“Maybe we could find a ranger to give or sell it to.” She smirked, “Maybe we’ll find a nice fire based item we can sell to that pyromancer, what was his name?” She chuckled.

“I think it was Captain Fletcher.” Lucian hummed, “Though I do remember one of the officers guarding the hospital was a ranger, though he didn’t have a bow.”

“What would we even sell it for though, that's the real question.” Annabelle responded, running a hand along the textured wooden surface of the bow.

“Hard to say.” He shrugged, “Probably depends on how good [Bloomburst Arrow] actually is.”

“Well you certainly can’t test it.” She picked the bow up, “Let me try.” She focused for a moment, and a strand of wood began to grow like a branch from the bow, forming an arrow and detaching. She chuckled and clumsily notched the arrow and drew it back, “Oh, I’m definitely not strong enough to use this…”

“Oh yeah, archers have strong arms.” Lucian nodded as she set the bow and arrow down.

“Well we can have someone try it later.” She shrugged then glanced at him, “More dungeon?”

“More dungeon.” Lucian agreed, standing up and stretching, “More dungeon, more loot.”

Annabelle rolled her eyes playfully, “And Bianca thought I was crazy.”

“Oh. We forgot to bring those garlic knots down with us.” Lucian blinked a few times.

Annabelle groaned, “I totally forgot until now. Though, they might be better saved for our trek back to the city?”

Lucian thought for a moment then nodded, “Yeah you’re probably right. Onwards we go then.”
