a gaggle of gods and goddesses sit at a large circular table, a traditionally elder-looking one bangs a gavel to quiet the others down.
"alright, this meeting is for one simple question: how do we end this world? so, as we all know, this world is on it's last leg, but persists due to all the demigods and so called heroes some of us-" leers at some of the goddesses who shrink at his gaze from shame"- have imported into it, and left to gather uncontrollable levels of power. and now we all just want to end it, and make a new one from scratch, because I do not exaggerate when I say: this world is fucked both ways to Sunday".
some of the gods make suggestions like"plague pandemic" or"geographic upevil", one chucklehead even suggested"summon demon lord" before summarily having a rock thrown at their head.
it wasn't until the child-looking one spoke up, that they agreed to try something new. The child: the goddling of games took out their omni-phone to show the game from another world called:"magic of summoning" where a player sets down a recurring "commander", and "summons" monsters to the field from a "hand" to the field using finite, but reusable resource cards. usually, the games are played with multiple people at a time.
after everyone saw the vid the godling asked "Why don't we use this to do the job? we can even pull the plug at the end."

the gods all are intrigued by the idea, but they all want to have input on the finished product: some wanted to use an outside soul to to the deed, another few wanted to use a fresh soul, one wanted a guy, another a girl, some wanted it to be op, others weak as hell, but somehow, they all got what they wanted.
the elder of the group gave accolades to the godling, even handing them a piece of fictional origin candy.
And so the oldest and the youngest gods of the realm went to work setting up the whole plan they concocted. plucking a candidate from the either, who died a sudden death, and for good measure: plucked some more souls out to try to expedite the process, but not too many as to cause new world order to happen, just to clear the table , and just enough to have them easily die out or be a managible number of targets if they need to "there was an old lady" this plan.
20 times of world ending/saving plans backfiring is more than enough for them to think ahead now.
the souls were placed into shells resembling characters from the game, as well as having close simulacra souls created and implated within them to do both fight for them if need be, as well as to hopefully destabilize them into mass murder.
Some of the gods even made sure to keep an eye on singular individuals each as both a means of observation of investment and entertainment. the god of merriment and phycosis keeping watch over a little jester girl, with the souls of a meek man, and a lunatic woman. who just so happens to be who we are gonna follow.
