Chapter 6: Beautifully Broken

The sun was a ghost in the sky, a pale disk that provided no warmth against the supernatural blizzard. In the center of the clearing, the Nursery—once a place of milk and safety—had transformed into a jagged monument of frozen glass.

Lillyclaw was pressed against the translucent walls, her fur matted with frost. She could see the silhouettes of the warriors outside—Bluestar, Lionheart, even the grumpy Yellowfang—all batting at the glass with their paws. But their claws just slid off the frozen surface.

"The kits!" Lillyclaw screamed, her voice muffled by the thick ice. "They’re in the shadows! The Tiger has them!"

Outside, the Clan watched in horror as a massive, glowing amber crack began to snake up from the floor of the nursery. It wasn't just breaking the glass; it was eating the light.

Suddenly, the air in the clearing ripped open. A vortex of blue-purple mist spiraled out from the Moonpool, smelling of old blood and stardust.

"The gate!" Branchkit’s voice echoed from inside the mist, sounding miles away. "Mom! We found the Mirror! But he’s right behind us!"

Tigerstar’s roar shook the very trees of ThunderClan, a sound so loud it cracked the frozen nursery walls. CRACK-SHIVER. Shards of glass rained down like diamond rain.

"Lillyclaw!" Spottedleaf appeared, her starry fur dimming. "The Vow is pulling them back! If the kits don't cross the threshold now, the Amber Claw will shatter, and their souls will be scattered in the Place of No Stars forever!"

"No!" Lillyclaw lunged for the portal, but the shadowy vines of the Vow lashed out from the ground, wrapping around her paws like iron chains. They weren't just holding her; they were draining her life, turning her vibrant fur to a dull, frozen gray.

"MOM!" Maplekit and Ravenkit tumbled out of the mist, their paws scorched by the Dark Forest's ash. They reached for her, their tiny faces streaked with tears.

"Don't touch me!" Lillyclaw yowled, the amber vines glowing brighter. "The Vow is meant for me! If you touch the vines, you’ll be trapped too! RUN TO THE MOONPOOL! SAVE THE STARDUST!"

"We aren't leaving you!" Branchkit roared, standing his ground even as a massive, dark shadow began to tower over them from inside the portal.

"You must!" Lillyclaw’s voice was a whisper now, her breath turning to ice. "Break the wrong, kits. If you stay, he wins. If you run... you live to fight another day."

The glass nursery let out one final, deafening SCREECH. The entire building exploded into a million shards of light. The shockwave threw the kits toward the Moonpool.

"I love you!" Lillyclaw’s cry was the last thing they heard before the blue-purple mist swallowed them whole.

They weren't in ThunderClan anymore. They were falling. And as they fell, the voice of Tigerstar whispered in their ears, colder than the ice they had left behind:

"Book One is finished, little ones. But in the Dark Forest... the story never ends."
