TL;DR at the bottom.
I have some very bad news.
These past four months of writing and receiving thoughtful feedback from readers and authors have helped me improve a fair deal. Several flaws in volume 1 stand out to me now, and I've identified the aspects of the story that easily turn off new readers (as a few of them have explained to me). These flaws include things like the very slow start, the absence of strong stakes and power progression till chapter fifty-something, general pacing issues, and the extensive training logs.
You might have noticed that things start picking up by chapter eighty-something, which is objectively a hard sell for a story on this site.
Therefore (after some agonizing), I have decided to do a rewrite.
I am so sorry to disappoint you, and it breaks my heart to spoil your reading experience in this way. I truly believe that this is the best path for the story and will allow me to focus more on the future instead of thinking about what I should have done better.
Making this decision right after assuring you that everything will be fine is a bad look, I know. But I believe that being honest is more important than saving face. I have to do this.
The core of the story is still going to stay the same, but several things are going to be refined or moved around. I'll be tightening up the parts of the story that seem to drag, making Caen's goals and motivations more defined, altering the sequence of power-ups, and making other relevant cascade changes.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
This is not an overhaul; the heart, feel, and events of the story should remain roughly the way you remember it, but with far more polish, less fluff, and some extra content.
Over the weekend, I determined the feasibility of getting this done in as little time as possible.
I believe that I can have this finished up in 3 weeks, but I'd hate to overestimate myself and come back here apologizing for delays. That puts me at 6 weeks max, which is about a month and a half from now. I'm fully confident that I can have the story cleaned up before the end of January next year.
I'll be relaunching the story under a different fiction page with an accelerated release rate to bring us up to speed within a short time. I'll be sure to keep you posted about what's going on.
If this bums you out enough to stop following the story, I perfectly understand. Thank you so much for coming this far and for reading something that I wrote. It means the world to me.
If you're interested in seeing what the rewrite looks like, I hope that I can give you a much better reading experience than I currently have.
For anyone who cares for some closure, the remaining chapters of the volume will come out later today, once I'm done running some errands.
TL;DR: I have decided to do a rewrite. It's going to take me anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks. Reasons are: the beginning and middle portions of the story have too many flaws, which turn away new readers, and I have actionable ideas on how to fix these. The volume will be finished up today, then I will take a break for the rewrite.
