65 The Terrorists Assassination Attempt

I tap my cane against the ground and whisper into Kaylin's ear, "Biblical Values Underneath." He's giving me the look. My head shakes, "He'll kill Bullet." A frown grows comfortable on my face, "If you don't tell me, everyone risks their lives to grab you for the same question." He sighs, "They don't matter. Scott couldn't face something like this anyway. You tell him to play nice." I grab at my hip, "I can get Aelina out, so no one has to play nice." He holds out his hand, I grab it firm. He rubs his hand into his Jacket. "Get out of here before anyone sees you."

Carter nudges me as the Jeep hits a bump, "Focus, Jack." I nod, "Like I was saying, there is a housing crisis because of the floods and demons in the sewers." A yawn escapes me, "I know." He stares at me, "Do you want me to force that optometrist to make another pair?" With a shrug, he leans back, "They don't work anyway." He shakes his head, "Then why are you wearing a broken pair of googles?" I focus through the cracked lens, "I like the way it feels on my head." He nudges me again, "You want to know why demons are a problem?" My eyes roll, "Because we can obliterate the whole capital of the free world?" He scoffs, "Oh, if it was ever free." The Jeep stops, through the pouring rain, a man shouts. "A man built a building, in a couple days. A true eyesore. It does house some people." I shake my head and follow him out the car. "But all of that material came directly from him, Jack!" I jump as he pulls out a gun and holds it to the man, "Freedom is dangerous, Jack." I jump as the gun goes off, the man's shouts end as a loud crash follows, then another. "He dies, and everyone in those buildings get crushed to death!"

In that case, you killed them without warning them. All to make a point? "Did you hear me!?" With a yawn, I frown, "I did, just don't understand why you care if some demon makes things better." He yanks me close to him, "Because if we don't control them, it won't just be a capital if they fail!" So you want control. Wait- "So what will we do to Rose?" He smirks, "Oh, we're still going to kill her, you have my word. But-" He grips my hand, "I'm going to have my fun first, understand?" That's not the deal. "Like?" He whispers and what little innocence I still had, was just stripped away. The most vile details and the most sickening things, unforgivable things. "She's a stuck up girl, she'll die as a wreck." I gulp as he looks down, then up at my face, "I'll start after we kill the rest and you seem willing to help." He lets go of my hand and shouts over the rain, "Come, Jack! Back to the facility!" I look at myself looking through all the glass windows around me, does Rose even deserve t-that? Does she even deserve death? Does Mama? Diesel, Jean, Mama, Norbert and I all smile around a campfire. Then Rose's smug smile. I shake my head and walk towards Carter's voice.

Jan grabs my shoulders, "How far is the transport?" I wave, "Give it a couple minutes, guys." I grab the radio, "Amber, you ready to ram them?" I scratch my scalp, "Amber?" "Y-yeah. You have my back once I do, right?" I nod, "Yeah, but it might not turn out that way." "You don't need to tell me that, Scott." I watch the screen, the blip getting closer to us. Bullet comes through, "You have about a minute after we engage until Amber and I leave you like you did us." Jan tuts, "We did tell him Carter's dangerous, right?" I nod, "Two blocks, get ready."

I grab a brick, "Amber, they're coming, you ready?" I sigh and grab into my pants for the radio, "Amber! Five seconds!" I groan and lean the brick on the Jeep's pedal. "Damn tight pants." It drones out the alley and I pick up the machine gun. The car crashes against the wall and I can hear the wheels squeal to a stop. "Go!" I wince and turn the corner, I open fire and the Convoy starts driving. "Shit!" Bullet shouts, "Firing!" Shots ring out as the first Jeep swerves into a building. The second's gunner turns towards me, I turn the corner as bullets crack against the brick.

I run after the moving convoy with Jan catching up quite quickly, "They're getting away!" Jan shouts, "This is too damn reckless!" We duck as they squeal to a stop, machine guns fire on us, "Flank them!" I jerk my rifle, "Shit!" Jan nods, "I'll cover the flank so you don't get us killed!" My back hugs the barricade for dear life, "Thanks for the vote of confidence!" Jan shouts, "Grenade! Run!" I freeze and Jan pulls me up, pushes me toward the alley. I start running and I duck my head as the grenade explodes. Jan backs up while shooting at them. He falls back and hits the ground. He groans, "I'm hit!"

I run and kneel next to him, "Amber, come around and-" He grabs my arm, "We're done here! We're outgunned!" I shake my head and he shouts as he rips the strap to check himself, "If we don't move, we are dying here!" "We can get Kaylin!" He slowly gets up and then pushes me against the wall, he jerks a pistol to my head, "I won't let the Deli be revealed to Carter! Don't be fucking stupid!" I push him and grab at my hair as Jan shoots. I jump and turn, a soldier drops as another turns the corner, "Let's go! Now, Scott!" I groan and bolt towards the soldier behind cover. Jan shouts, "Don't make me shoot you, Scott!" Bullet shouts, "There are two soldiers left! You two can push, but we're leaving! Amber, retreat!" Jan rushes up behind me, "If we don't make any movement in thirty seconds, we leave." I sigh deep, "Fine."

The soldier peaks and I shoot to force him back to cover. Jan marches up and quickly shoots him. "Move up, Scott!" He ducks and a hail of bullets crack against a barrier. He jumps, bows his head and crawls back towards me. "Bullet didn't say he was on a fucking machine gun!" A shot rings out and the hail of bullets stop, "You're clear, I'm leaving now." I sigh deep as Jan bolts towards Kaylin's transport. I follow after him, Jan shouts, "Back seat! Go now!" I run into the back seat and Kaylin lounges back in the seat, "Scott." My back hugs the door as I hold my rifle towards him. "Biblical Values Underneath. Where the hell is it?" The engine starts, the Jeep scrapes and squeals against the road and water. Jan shouts, "Damn it! Bullet shot out the tires!" Kaylin sighs, "Kid, he's won. He's got a decent plan." I shake my head, "You've consented, haven't you?!" He shrugs, "That's just the problem, he could've made me, but he didn't need to. He promised-" I jerk my gun at him, "I don't care! Tell me where it is!" He huffs, "Damn it kid. We can't just use what's there on any damn problem." I shoot out the window as he jumps, "What the hell-" I slam the barrel to his chest, "Carter's going to kill everyone that ever helped me! So you're going to fucking tell me where that place is, now!" He jerks the rifle's barrel away and I shoot. The bullet smacks against the bulletproof glass as he puts a pistol to my temple, "If I was his slave, you'd be dead right now."

I slowly back up, "Just tell me, damn it." Jan stops the Jeep, "We have to go!" I shake my head, "Telling me costs you fucking nothing. O'Malley orders you to. So you better fucking do it. I take out my gun as he points his back, "Scott!" Kaylin stares me down, he then lowers his gun, "Fine. Doom us all, Scott. 1904 Heart Street. It's underwater. Look for a cross with gemstones." Jan opens my door and drags me out, "We gotta move!"
