Chapter 7: The Path of the Wind

Morning training had already been exhausting, and I was still rubbing my bruises from Kaito’s relentless sparring session. But the kid was dead serious about making me a proper fighter.

“Alright, Hiroshi-san! You’re not bad with a sword, but you need more than that to survive,” Kaito said, tossing me a small wooden staff.

I caught it clumsily. “What’s this for?”

  “Magic,” he grinned.

  I blinked. “Magic?”

“Yeah! You fought a direwolf, right? You’re lucky you didn’t die! Most people use magic to fight monsters. Swords alone aren’t enough unless you’re an elite knight.”

I frowned. That actually made sense. The direwolf was a nightmare to fight, even with the system's help. If I had magic, maybe I wouldn’t have struggled so much.

Kaito stepped back and raised his own staff. “Watch carefully!”

He took a deep breath, his expression turning serious. Then, he swung his staff in a wide arc.

  WHOOSH!

A small burst of wind shot forward, rustling the grass.

I gaped. “That was… wind magic?”

Kaito grinned. “Yep! It’s the easiest element to learn. Perfect for someone like you.”

“Hey, what do you mean by ‘someone like me’?”

He just chuckled. “Now, try it! Close your eyes and focus on the air around you.”

I sighed but did as he said. Focus on the air? What does that even mean?

I stood still, gripping the staff, feeling the morning breeze against my skin.

  Breathe in. Breathe out.

I imagined the wind wrapping around me, flowing through my fingertips, waiting to be shaped.

  And then—

  DING!

A bright blue screen appeared in front of me.

  ---

  [SYSTEM ALERT]

Do you wish to master Wind Magic?

  [YES] / [NO]

  ---

I nearly dropped the staff. The system again?!

  “Uh, Kaito… I think something’s happening.”

“What? Did you feel the mana?”

“Not exactly…” I pointed at the glowing screen. “I got a system message.”

Kaito squinted at the empty air. “System message? I don’t see anything.”

Right. Only I could see it.

I hesitated for a moment before taking a deep breath.

  “Yes.”

  DING!

  Another screen popped up.

  ---

  [Wind Magic Mastery Path Unlocked!]

To master Wind Magic, complete the following tasks:

?? Feel the Wind (0%) – Sense the natural flow of wind around you.

?? Control the Breeze (0%) – Create a small gust of wind.

?? Shape the Air (0%) – Direct the wind with precision.

?? Call the Storm (0%) – Summon a powerful wind attack.

  ---

I stared at the list, my hands trembling with excitement.

  I can actually learn magic?!

Kaito waved his hand in front of my face. “Hello? Hiroshi-san? You good?”

I snapped out of it. “Yeah. Just… thinking.”

I glanced at the first task. Feel the Wind.

Maybe this was why the system asked me to close my eyes earlier.

I did it again, shutting out everything else. No distractions. No thoughts. Just the air.

  I took a slow breath.

For the first time, I noticed the way the wind moved—brushing against my skin, weaving through my hair, swirling around me.

  It wasn’t just air.

  It was alive.

  ---

[Task Completed: Feel the Wind (100%)]

  ---

A rush of energy flooded through my body.

My eyes shot open. “I… I can feel it.”

  Kaito’s eyebrows raised. “Huh? Already?”

I grinned. This was just the beginning.
