Chapter 29 The Reward

Is there anything amiss with appreciating beauty?

  Gorgin firmly believed there wasn't.

Whether in his past life or this new existence, at his current age, he was brimming with energy and exuberance.

As an ogre housing the soul of an ordinary human male from Blue Star, was it truly wrong to have an eye for beauty?

If he couldn't engage in more intimate pursuits, couldn't he at least indulge in the simple pleasure of looking?

Gorgin was a man who had sworn an unwavering oath against vices like gambling and drugs.

So, what if he harbored this somewhat risqué hobby?

He had transformed into an ogre, and the system that once governed his life seemed to have deserted him.

Why shouldn't he be allowed to enjoy life a little?

Gorgin paid no heed to potential criticism. He was all about following his own desires.

The journey to the destination had taken ten days, but on the return trip, without the dwarves' cumbersome steam tank slowing them down, their pace quickened significantly.

They reached the tribe in just six days.

This mission spanned a total of sixteen days, yielding a rich haul.

It included a set of heavy armor for the chief, a blueprint for a smelting furnace, ten slaves, and four slaves for the Pleasure House.

Karlov, back in the tribe, had performed his tasks admirably.

Gorgin's chief's hut had been completed, and currently, Karlov was devising ways to obtain a large bed for him.

Gorgin was highly satisfied with this progress.

However, Karlov presented a rather battered appearance at the moment.

When Gorgin inquired, Karlov stuttered and was loath to speak.

It was only when Gorgin was assigning individuals to the Pleasure House that he gleaned the full story from one of the attendants.

It transpired that Karlov had been pressuring the five ogres rather harshly to hasten the construction.

The ogres, not daring to defy Gorgin's order, had no choice but to work at an accelerated pace.

Yet, they harbored resentment, and as a result, they would periodically administer a beating to Karlov, albeit with restraint.

Naturally, they weren't fools. They knew precisely how much force to exert.

They refrained from causing him any serious harm and ensured that the construction of the house remained on schedule.

After all, Gorgin hadn't decreed Karlov's death, and he always carried that tattered bowl with him.

Thus, no matter what, the other ogres wouldn't inflict grievous injury upon him.

"Exceptional work!" Gorgin surveyed his new abode.

Although constructed from desert thorns, it already bore the distinct style of Blue Star architecture.

Most significantly, it was spacious, well - ventilated, and flooded with natural light.

A campfire pit in the center provided warmth during the night, and an opening in the roof allowed the smoke to escape.

It was immeasurably superior to the huts typically erected by the ogres themselves.

"I'll double your rations tonight!" Gorgin announced, his mood exceedingly buoyant.

"It is my privilege to serve you, Chief.

However, the bed will require an additional two days.

I am working with all due haste," Karlov replied, his mouth swollen. Simultaneously, a sense of relief washed over him.

Since the chief was pleased, his life was no longer in jeopardy.

"Very well. Your subsequent task is to renovate my mother's dwelling. “

"Replicate the specification of mine. You may select two of the slaves from outside. They will be under your command," Gorgin stated.

Given Karlov's commendable work, Gorgin had no qualms about rewarding him and even bestowed a promotion.

Previously, due to a lack of available manpower, he had been compelled to assign ogres to assist Karlov.

But now that slaves were at their disposal, it was inappropriate for the noble ogres to continue taking orders from a human.

"I will not disappoint you, Chief!" Karlov beamed with delight.

Although any one of those slaves had an arm thicker than his thigh, they were now slaves.

And despite being a slave himself, Karlov had been there longer and had made more contributions.

With the ogres as his backing/support, what did he have to fear?

"Nu, escort him to choose two slaves. They will be under his temporary command," Gorgin called out, signaling Karlov to depart.

Karlov eagerly trailed behind Nu to select the slaves.

Initially, two ogres lingered not far away, their eyes fixed expectantly on Gorgin.

"A dudu?" When they witnessed Gorgin preparing to lie down, they promptly spoke up.

"You two..." Gorgin was momentarily startled, and then it dawned on him what they desired.

"You want your weapons enhanced, correct? Fetch your weapons. I shall modify them for you."

The two ogres happily proffered their large bone hammers to Gorgin.

"Be off. I will return them to you at dinner this evening."

"A dudu!!!" The two ogres ambled away, casting frequent glances back.

Heh~ Gorgin emitted a soft chuckle and promptly tossed the two large bone clubs aside.

"Send some girls over for a massage!"

Gorgin bellowed from the doorway, then turned and strode back into his house, sprawling directly onto the sand.

As a native of this land, such matters held little significance to him.

After more than half a month of travel, he was truly fatigued. Within minutes, six attendants entered the room.

"Remove that orc and bring an elf instead," Gorgin instructed, gesturing dismissively when he noticed the orc attendant among them.

The female orc departed with a sullen pout, clearly disgruntled.

  Damn it.

Previously, there were only these six attendants to choose from, but now there were twelve.

With five humans and four elves available, why would he opt for a female orc with red skin and tusks when he could have those fair - skinned and delicate ones?

An elf entered. She was one of those brought back during this expedition.

The six attendants each assumed their assigned tasks: some massaged his shoulders, others his arms, and the rest his legs.

Gorgin closed his eyes, and after a brief interval, drifted off into a deep slumber.

He slept for the better part of the day, and by the time he awoke, the sun was on the verge of setting.

Refreshed and revitalized, he rose to his feet.

The six attendants, who had been patiently waiting by his side, stood ready for his next command.

"Hey, what was your name again? Ca... Ca something?"

Gorgin directed his gaze at the succubus, struggling to recall her name despite it being on the tip of his tongue.

"Your Excellency the Chief, I am Karin," Karin responded, bowing her head slightly in deference.

"Right. I recall you were the first to approach me of your own accord, correct?"

"Yes, Chief. I was being pursued and inadvertently entered the territory of the Dragon's Lair Tribe. “

“It was solely due to your formidable might in vanquishing those demons that hunted me that I am still alive. Otherwise, I would have perished long ago," Karin said, her tone devoid of any seductive undertones, only profound respect.

Unlike the other attendants, she was the first to join and had done so willingly.

"Good. You have acquitted yourself well," Gorgin remarked, offering a rare word of praise.

Then, pointing at Karin, he continued, "Now, there are more attendants in the Pleasure House, and their skills are inconsistent. I am not entirely satisfied."

"For the time being, you will assume charge of the entire Pleasure House. Disseminate your skills and ensure that all attendants enhance their techniques.“

“The Pleasure House is currently the tribe's only signature project apart from our mercenary services. I am entrusting this responsibility to you. Do you understand?"

Karin immediately dropped to her knees.

"I will not fail you, Chief!"

"Very good. Take them and go. Work diligently," Gorgin waved his hand, indicating that they could leave.

Now that the tribe was welcoming an increasing number of diverse members, it was imperative to establish a corresponding management system.

Otherwise, the task of governance would prove arduous.

After all, he couldn't simply resort to consuming them all...

Currently, Karlov was responsible for construction projects within the tribe, Karin oversaw the Pleasure House, and the Dog Captain was in charge of patrols.

This way, whenever necessary, he could simply approach the relevant person in charge.
