  Chapter 7 Part B

  Research Journal Head Researcher's Notes

  August 17th, entry;

  The presence of the foreign contaminants in the subject appear to be increasing. Cells appear to manifest lupus like symptoms and rashes initially, but yet refuse to calm down with antibiotics and steroids. Additional subjects appear to also be manifesting simir traits and behaviors.

  Subject 4591 appears to be manifesting aggressive behavior. Appears to consistently be enraged. Throwing food trays at nurse and staff. One time tried to bite a nurse. Two accounts of throwing feces. Proceeding with anti-psychotic medications and restraining patients when enraged.

  Subjects 4873, 4872, 4341, 8971, 5319, 5316, 2738, 4564, 4563, and 4462 also appear to be manifesting various states of unease, inability to sleep, and irritability. However, aggression in these other subjects doesn't appear to be 'enraged' and on the level as the other subject. Investigations into cims by nursing staff that the other subjects were manifesting rage traits and not responding to research medication appear to be false. We feel this may be an attempt to discredit our research through bribery from rival corporation B. Nursing staff have been dismissed and repced with non-bias staff.

  August 19th, entry;

  Nursing staff have to be repced again. Again, bias cims of rage and madness in the patients. There's not a rage problem. We're professionals, we should be able to handle a patient having a temper tantrum. We're doing a new batch of staff to account for research bias. We shouldn't have hired people that have past history working for rival corporation B. And we can't risk bias affecting judgment of human trials for our Drug X.

  August 25th, entry;

  Finally, we're on track with our human trials for our test medication. No more staff problems. Subjects all appear to have calmed down a bit. We've also expanded the pool of test subjects to account for one offs that are outliers outside of normal distribution patterns in statistical models.

  August 6th, entry;

  There appears to be a problem in the human testing that we've discovered. Naturally this doesn't bother our research. Our drug is performing wonderfully. Our human trials for the new medicine are still on track. We can still hurry and rush this to be able to meet the investors deadline for this medicine to get to market. My boss is still breathing down my neck though. And I wish the investor deadline wasn't so close to our research window allowance.

  In doing bloodwork today we found that the presence of HEK-293-0 appears to have a mutational effect when combined with our product. I can still py with the numbers to account for this, but it means bringing in more test subjects. Further, we might have to bring in test subjects from poputions that haven't had exposure to HEK-293-0 in their food and medicine. I didn't realize how this substance could affect our work. But the fix will only dey our work an additional week... but we'll have to work graveyard shifts to meet the investor deadline.

  Brocksin also agrees with me on the idea to use non-domestic poputions without HEK-293-0 exposure will work to keep us on track.

  August 7th, entry;

  We've decided to upgrade the ... security procedures for testing patient safety. The presence of rage in many of the test subjects isn't our fault. Dr. Brocksin cims there was contaminated groundwater in our b facility. He wants to do a mathematical calcution to account for this to offset numbers on our testing medication. We put it to a vote with the other Dr's in the research circle. I don't like how he's pying with the numbers. But he pointed out that the non-domestic testing subjects from developing countries don't have this chemical saturation in their system and perform differently on our testing drug, due to that and not having exposure to HEK-293-0.

  But its getting harder to find subjects without HEK-293-0 exposure. Even developing countries poputions have this kind of exposure. Human Resources needs pressure to maintain our deadlines in finding staff also. I had to threaten to repce them if they don't get results; but not my fault. I didn't set the investor deadline, others did. Further HEK-293-0 appears to be having more mutational effects than previously stated. Naturally we're correcting for this with our new test subject pool.

  I don't understand why they insist on having military staff at the site now. And who authorized that? They weren't supposed to know about the rage effects that we were trying to solve either. Did someone break their NDA*?

  Research is progressing. We're doing blood work and blood trials very consistently now. The results are promising in what drug X was promised to deliver. We have a procedure to deal with the enraged patients. And having more security procedures and modifying their quarters helps to minimize 'incidents'.

  Who is going to pay for modifying the patient rooms with safety padding and body harnesses? Our budget can only stretch so far. And like hell am I going without that bonus they promised us?

  We've also been upping the anti-psychotic meds to contain the rage effects in the patients. If the dosage is high enough they start to act normal again. Thank g-d. I was hoping for this, so we could keep this going. We just have to have Dr's prescribe drug X and then prescribe pill B to go with it to contain the rage effects. Brocksin assures me its stable with the 2 together and that we can't be sued. Also, he showed me a table that shows many of the test subjects that had rage effects appear to mostly be concentrated in people that had failed to disclose to us their substance abuse history. We're not accountable for their history of messing around with stuff they picked up in some back alley from a dealer for their parties! This makes me feel relieved, as I needed a way to expin that and feel good about it. He went over it with [censored] from Legal to make sure we're good.

  We're on track to meet the investor deadline! We can do this if we rush things and work around the clock. Thank g-d. I was so stressed out. Dr. Brocksin is really amazing. His ambition is moving this forward really well.

  August 10th, entry;

  I wish they hadn't cut that nurse loose without consulting me. Now he cims he didn't cut her loose. But she's obviously not at the testing facility anymore. Stupid morons. I work with a bunch of jerks with god complexes.

  Bloodwork and our other testing procedures have manifested a rare type of strange mutational molecule that resembles a form of prion. No matter, we've already proven our drug works. And our research is almost complete. Unless the other test subjects find evidences of their own prion molecules this won't have any bearing. Its a one off outlier. And the test subject did come from a country where... prion molecules have historical bearing.

  Product manufacturing is beginning this week. They kind of jumped the gun on that since we're still closing up a few loopholes in human testing. But no matter. We're going to get filthy rich off this new drug! Its going to be so amazing.

  Already test subjects are showing more youthful vigor than they had before. Some of them look years younger. This is especially true of test subjects over about... 45, give or take a few years. Women especially are going to shit themselves trying to get our youthful beauty product. I'll be able to buy that new house with the pool that I wanted.

  August 11th, entry;

  Dr. Brocksin rebuked me today for putting extra garbage and personal comments in my research notes.

  JERK! Fuck you BROCKSIN! I didn't give you permission to read my notes anyway! You don't have legal access punk! Researcher notes have to be unbias from higher ups in order to be passable by research. If you compel every word someone says then their research can't pass the smell test! I've already submitted a compint to the board for your ethics viotions in interfering with me. I caught you son of a bitch. You'll pay for this you little shit! And I know You are reading this. You've been sneaking in my office after hours when I've been at home resting. I've also submitted proof of your other wrong doings and evidence.

  Doesn't matter anyway. I've already taken that other job and I'll get my bonus. By the time you find this I'll be at site B where you can't touch me.

  Arrived at the site, this morning. What a mess. We're not sure what happened at the site. There appears to be some kind of ... incident. Evidence suggests, incident to be extremely abnormal and outside of normal human behavior allowances. Several researchers are missing. Presence of human 'DNA samples' in pces that there shouldn't be, smeared on walls and floor'. Some offices of researchers appear to have been ransacked.

  Brocksin is uncooperative and is more worried about being sued than about the safety of his missing staff.

  Several interviewees seemed to be especially worried about HEK-293-0 exposure, and some kind of prion molecule present in many test patients. They didn't want to talk about this initially, but it surfaced once we knew to ask what exactly the prion molecule is. There is also a problem with Brocksin's over reach in the research. He'd been telling the researchers to only tell him about negative effects of the prion and not each other. So only he knew that the prion molecule was present in more than 1 patient. Each researcher was told only their small group of test patients had a prion and not to talk about it with the other researchers. They seemed to have been blinded by the big bonus also, that was conditional only on Drug X going to market. Because of this, it was hidden from the researchers how many patients actually had mutations from the interaction of the prion molecule, the HEK-293-0 chemical, and the drug being tested itself. The safety features the researchers used at the site to contain the enraged test subjects resemble ... something you'd see at a prison more than a medical facility. We feel if this surfaced it could harm investor judgment.

  Also don't allow head investor visits at this site. If big money investors need to see something then set up a fake research b sat that is purposely made to be photogenic. Use dummy staff if needed. Given the eccentricities of the personalities in our head investor pool, its highly likely a photogenic dummy site will be needed.

  Recommend the isnd facility to be purged and all evidence destroyed. We can't risk this getting out. Burn the site. Be thorough. And also recommend purging the isnd the facility is on also for extra precautions. Purge staff associated with this research, to make sure they don't talk about it.

  Delete and burn all memos, notes, and emails associated with any knowledge of the prion molecules, HEK-293-0.

  Recommend not putting the drug on the market for a few more months, until research can be verified. This doesn't pass the smell test. And Brocksin is obviously shady. It also looks like his head research had a car accident 2 days after taking another job for rival corporation B.
